Call Back-This Better Be Good....
« on: July 27, 2010, 02:00:00 pm »
Did an EOT yesterday, Berber style 80/20 cream carpet. Presprayed with Fusion8 and left for a good while to dwell, they weren't particularly dirty and I refrained from agitating owing to possible problems with fluffing.

Personally, I was happy that they'd come up well as was the client, but I did note that the main traffic lane was particularly dark and possibly worn due to pilling. The carpet has aged and there is even a lovely "Melted" area, possibly fron an iron ???

Had a call back today, landlord's not happy with the job and wants it re-done. ::)

I have agreed to treat the area again using something a bit stronger (Ultrapac Renovate with Fibfab rinse) and I have said that if it does improve, fair do's! But, if I am right and it cannot be improved, I will charge an hours work to the landlord.....

How would you play it?

micro splitter and bonnet the fk out of it, if no transfer to bonnet then he better get his cheque book out, trust me on the bonnetting, its the only way to tell if any more will come out. if you aint got a rotary then put micro splitter on a terry towel and scrub an area that is still dirty, if you get transfer then its worth another go.

You say the 'client' was happy-did you mean tennant or the agency? If it was the tennant and they paid you then you did your job-they were happy with result.

One of my only call back was indirectly for an agency, not one that i do much work for, tenant had been in 2 years from new,had me out after the first year to clean all carpets.
Also did the eot when he moved out, carpets were berber, pale, and in good condition, apart from wear in front of chair and sofa, there was also oil from his motorbike in the entrance, which i got out completely.
I was happy with the job, they looked more or less new when i had done.
Got call back the day after from the agency, who were not happy !!

Went and did the worn areas again, and my waste tank was clear when i emptied, even put some in a plastic bottle to show the agancy it was clean !!
Just couldn`t get it through to them that it was due to 2 years worth of wear and tear ! Not done anything for them since, and glad of it to be honest
What goes around comes around

I just hate those types of carpets;  When I see anything that resembles a Berber or nasty dull looped wool mix, I always have a word with the client and explain that they are a bit on the 'gloryless' side; ie... they'll never seem to impress after any clean.  That's just my experience.   As Joe said the other day, give me a patterned jobbie any day!

Wool, Berber, tight domestic loopie pooey yuk!   Hate 'em!

The trouble with Berbers is the pile fibres are exposed to wear on the outer curve of the loop. This area takes a right hammering and degradation of the fibres makes them absorb light giving a dull look even when cleaned properly.

Landlords pick holes so that they do not have to refund tennants deposit.

This may include slight stains iron marks damp in worktop chip on paint etc

Personally if customer is polite I would redo it gratis and explain limitations better next time
