hi there,

we have got to go and look at a brick fireplace surround, which has soot contamination from a fire in the chimney place.

therefore the question is, or rather the questions are.

has anybody successfully removed soot damage from brickwork, using chemical?

if so would prochem ultrapac renovate do the job, hand sprayed on, then dabbed off, followed by water sprayed on and then dabbed off again?

obviously vacuuming off excess soot first!!

or does this require, a blasting solution? high pressure air or dry ice blasting?

Hi Martin

The problem with brick work is it is porous

You could be lucky and find that this has beed sealed if it is internal it could well have been.

there are latex poultices that you apply to the brick work leave overnight then peel off this takes most of the contamination out and the surface should!! be cleanable with a mild detergent solution
