I have the older dial varistream and this has a "time lag" between opening the valve on my pole and getting the flow right on the first window.

Generally it is under pressure and you get a burst of spray which subsides and then the pump "catches up" to the correct flow. This takes about five seconds.

I just use this time to scrub the first transom window glass with the water that came from the initial burst.

If you are saying the problem is worse than this then I would look at air locks as a first port of call.
It's a game of three halves!

As with gold, there is a delay with the controller, if water is stopped via the tap you get a big squirt of water before dropping to flow rate,  if i use the remote i can get a lag of around 8 seconds before the flow gets anywhere near what it should be.
time is not wasted as i whip around the frame.
