How do you conrol filling your water tank?
« on: July 16, 2010, 09:37:35 pm »
I have a 400litre lay flat tank for my WFP. I fill it up every night with Pure water ready for the next day. I put a countdown timer on so remind me to check the water level, however, occasionally I forget or miss the sound of my timer (not an exact science knowing how long it will take to fill up). This leads to my tank overflowing into the van. Yesterday I left it for about half an hour overflowing into my van as I got caught up on the phone. This is obviously stupid and I'm sure I will get a lot of laughs from you guys

I cant fit a ballcock system as I think I would lose nearly 100litres from my capacity. Is there a product on the market that can control the flow from the tap that you can set to cut the water off after a certain amount of water has passed through eg 300litres passes through and turns off, or, will only flow water for a certain amount of time before switching off?

Please help as I can't stand my wife laughing at me any more and am sick of having wet feet and to syphon water out of my footwell all the time.

i overflow around 4 times per year,

i know nearly exactly when to start filling it, depending on how much water is left in the tank after a working day,

You need to put YOUR water on just before you lock up and go to bed,

its a knack lol

I pay my teenage son to do it and make him stand by the tank till its full then he turns the tap off, he also charges the batteries and backpack and fills the containers and brings in dirty cloths, if you do not have have a teenager hanging about you can do it your self

The trouble is that I have to fill it up slowly as I put the water through my DI vessel first and don't want to do it fast and ruin the resin. It takes around 45-90 mins to fill as I am on a shared water supply so my flow rate moves up and down. an automatic flow control would be ideal

I have an inlet and an over-flow...so when I forget the over flow tank gets what would normally be all over the van flow....the over-flow tank can then be pumped back into the van tank the following day if needed..seems to do the trick.....in the winter the over flow tank acts as a holding tank for when it takes ages to make water and this also acts as a place to pre-warm water....

Get a float valve, PF fitted mine, just connect water and lea be it all night, it shuts off supply when water is about 1cm from top of tank. Easy peasy!

Mr B
If in doubt.....Leave it out !!
