I have read all I know about window cleaning from this place. Most people say after first cleans, leave the top frames of windows (WFP) as this is where the trouble of spotting comes from. I have recently read of someone who always cleans top frames as he says if they are kept clean they will not cause spotting (that was my understanding of it anyway).
Who, If anyone, always cleans top frames and does not have any problems from it.
Do you clean them immediatly prior to cleaning glass or do all frames first then go back to glass (as if a first clean)?

I cleaning everything,

you only have to clean ALL the dirt off once really, (first clean)

Then after that its simply maintaining them,

Get the lot off,

i would not be happy if i had to show a customer how brilliant all her frames are now,

and leave a dirty top frame,!

No point in doing it if you leave some, and nothing will drip if it done right.

Yes always clean the top of the frame clean around the vents etc...


all good to go!  no spoting.

I have avoided them after first cleans (as recommended on here) But today was thinking if they are kept clean it should not be a problem. Also some over spray on them would not be an issue as they are clean, Am I right

thats my thinking mate.

i give a good wash over the top of the frame 1st - then the sides scrub the glass rinse wipe across the bottom

(usual method - may be altered to suit certian windows and conditions)

on first cleans, scrub every thing, rinse well, and you will be trouble free, you know the old saying, preperation makes a good job, well that is true,

yes do the same as 1st clean but in quarter of the time.

ill be avoiding them most cleans as its easy to not get any water on them with pencil jets!i will go over them if their dirty though(every 4th clean probably!).

one thing i will avoid is getting water in between the 2 top openers on certain windows as it creates a run right down the centre of the large pane underneath sometimes!! : ::)especially the first week i used it!!i got a fair few complaints!!

If i see dirt coming from the two top frames, if the customer is in , i ask them to nip up and open the top windows and wipe the spine between the openers,

works a treat , and they like the fact you are doing a thorough job.

sorry never noticed that bit, but still the same, clean every time, doing this will save time, ok some with very big rounds and less men, this is tempting, will catch up with them in the end,

im paranoid about these now gazza as i had a lot of em first week wfp!i find if a just clean the glass and face of frame(not up over the top of the frame)and avoid the gap and when rinsing miss the top 2in they come up great with no runs!!

im learning slowly but surely!!!

i always clean top frame , except when frame condition / type dictates other wise.

dont get any problems after 1st clean , it also allows better results when cleaning in the rain.

get them clean first time , and keep em that way by maintaining .

think i will be cleaning top frames all the time from now on then. I was thinking if its good enough for georgian windows to have water dripping from all the different frames and be ok, It should be ok for cleaning top frames every time on normal windows, If ya catch ma drift.

I clean everything - everytime. The only time you need to spend extra time on a top frame is the first clean, after that if you clean everytime its no problem. I clean round the frames strarting with the top frame and then the windows, finishing each window as I go.

We always clean tops, sides glass and cills on each clean, apart from a few ali and really old upvc frames. But with these, we shut the water off and just use the brush to rid of any cobwebs ect. IMO, if you leave the tops for 3-4 months, i would spend longer on the job to rinse to make sure. Just spend time on the first cleans to get them really clean, then just maintain them every/every other month.
