Upholstery HELP Please!
« on: August 30, 2005, 06:19:06 pm »
Hi all,
Can anyone advise or help please?
I cleaned a creme, but patterned coloured Parker Knoll suite a couple of weeks ago. Whilst doing the cleaning of the cusions with the upholstery tool there seemed to be a brownish mark apperaring. I carried on as it seemed to go. I used my cool air blower on the suite as usual.

I had a call last week from the lady to say that the stain had re appeared, but perhaps worse than before.
I did go back and re reclean them for her.

Could it be that there was some sort of stain  in the foam cushions that has wicked through to the cusion covers? The foam interior had a fairly heavy brown soiling on the top,it was not a clean foam interior.

Is it an idea to take them from the lady and give to a dry cleaners to have dry cleaned?
As an alternative could I give them a very cool wash in my own washing machine? It has happened to two of the cushions.

Any advice is most appreciated
Thanks
Ben

Hi Ben,

Do you know what the ph is of your cleaning solution is and the material ?

The staining may be C/ browning if it is then clean the offending cushion again and acid rinse it and dry it quickly.

If you think that the staining is caused by the foam interior then again clean it but put a barrier between the cover and the foam interior i.e. polythene.

I cleaned a parker knoll suite last week .
if you tip the sofa over there is a patch that tells you what it made off sounds similar to the one I did 48% polypropylene 32% some other man made substance and the rest cotton cleaned up brilliantly.
I used m/s and cleaned at 55o   :D

Hi Neil,
I have been back to the lady and she is ok about it. It is to be used in a rented property and she said it will be dirty within weeks anyway!
Also it was as bad as she made out on the phone.
Am I right in saying you used microsplitters? And what is 550? I have never used m/s, perhaps I should!
Tnx again
Ben
