Domestic Cleaning
« on: August 28, 2005, 10:35:59 am »
I just do Carpet Cleaning, but this weekend I was looking for a Cleaner for my Cousin.

Phoned a couple f people we new who did domestic cleaning, not as a bussiness as such

Got a shock when we were told that the going rate was £10 an hour.

If a cleaner working on her own can command such a rate it must make it very hard to find quality cleaning staff and make a profit for Domestic Cleaning Companyas anyone with any initiativve will find their own work?

Hi Ian!

Don't forget pricing is all relative to whereabouts in the Country you are operating from.....those people charging £7 - £8 may be making a perfectly decent living for themselves! I charge my Clients £9.00 per hour, I pay my Cleaners £6.00 per hour.

However I do all the ironing duties myself and charge by the lb weight, and I also do a hour a night clean (5 nights a week) at an office across the road from where I live and charge them £10 per hour!. My overheads are virtually nil for that job, so that is a bonus for me.

Even tho the income from the Clients with whom I put Cleaners is low, the rest makes up for it.

My personal income for my first year of trading, is double that of my last job!! I believe it is all about balancing. My turnover was more than I forecasted it would be in the first year, so that is a bonus too.

Obviously as we all operate in different parts of the Country, our cost of living will differ immensely, as will our Client base. Often, for all us inexperienced people, getting our pricing right only comes from trial and error, but we all get there in the end (however long that takes).

Jan :)

As far as I am aware this is one of the poorest Counties in the Country

However the village is one of the most affluent areas.

I was just thinking that on reading previous posts many of you were finding it hard to find staff, and felt the fact that a Cleaner working on her own with no ambitions to form a companyis able to command £10 with people looking for cleaners this makes it hard for recruitment.

We contactacted several local people Mrs Mopps  for want of a better term
