I've got mine fitted in a swb transporter with a flat 250l tank and thats just inside the weight for that with all gear and fresh water tank full.

I realise the weights won't be exactly the same for the two vans but I would have thought would be ok.

I wouldn't fit any truckmount in a van with less than 3500kg GVW

Remember your weight bias won't be equal front/rear. You might be OK on one axle but overweight on the other.  You won't find out until you're on that weighbridge and a fine is in the post.

Besides that, running a van up to its weight limit all the time will shorten the life of tyres, suspension, brakes etc.  The same as the philosophy of having a bigger engine truckmount running at lower revs, if you're working well within maximum capacity you're wearing stuff out at a lesser rate.

It's also VERY dangerous to have a fully laden van, your stopping distance is going to be affected and the stability will be awful, lolloping round corners like it's going to roll over... you're much closer to the limits and more likely to end up in a crumpled mess.

Just my opinion for what it's worth :)

A swb has a payload of 1100kg.

A blazer plus &tank is 304 kg

If you have another tank add another 35kg

The if you are carrying 500 litres of water add 500kg.

Add you equipment and yourself could be 250kg

So you should just be OK, but coming in close and when it's full like that, its the brakes and stopping that makes you realise just how much weight there is.

I'd go for something a bit bigger

Plus solution and vac hoses, chemicals, vacuum cleaners sprayers, fuel, rotary or agitation machine, wands, upholstery tools, I could go on but even without getting it to a weighbridge I can tell you its overweight. Jims right a 3500 van is the only option if you want to sleep at night.

Thanks for all the replys, I was wondering if it wad going to be too near the weight, I'm looking at buying another van for this machine and got offered a vauxhall vivaro but diddnt know the weight of the machine etc,

the only trouble I have with getting a big van is parking around town is there any med size van that would be able to carry the weight??

Also how easy are they to fit? As I would need to get it fitted it to the van?

When I had that machine it was in and out job with a forklift truck.

I had it in a Citroen Relay - thats about transit size, and about the size you will need bearing in mind 3.5t is what you need.

A mwb 350 Transit has the best payload,  if it has to be a SWB the nearest in the transit range is a 330(they don't do a 3500 in a swb) or at least they didn't.

Fitting really depends on you own ability, whether or not you know how to lay it out and also how confident you are drilling holes through the floor of you van (fuel tanks, brake lines etc to consider) A forklift is ideal but you could manage by hiring an engine crane. If you haven't done it before as you're in Brighton it may be worth the money to take it up to Prochem, also some insurers insist that it's  fitted by a recognised installer

Are they easy to service and fix your self? Are parts easy to get hold off for these machines, Last thing I want is a van and machine off the road for few days

That's why you need to strike up a good working relationship with a TM supplier/service centre who knows your machine inside out.  It's worth spending the money to get it installed professionally, because you then become "adopted" by whoever fitted it and they will gladly give you support.

There's nothing more reassuring than phoning up and they can say on the phone to you something like "take the side cover off, you'll see three wires going in to the XXX and one is blue....".   Really puts your mind at ease to have this expertise only a phone call away.

But with the manual for the machine and all the knowledge you pick up as you go along, a TM becomes much less scary and mysterious.  I'm in my first year with a TM and already have lost "The Fear".  I just get on with it day to day and if there are any little niggles just get the right advice and/or parts and away you go.

I've driven back to the supplier once so far, but what they did at that time I could do myself from now on.

Prochem parts should be very easy to source, as there are a lot of the machines out there in the field.

Got to agree with all the above. Got my Blazer plus fitted by Prochem. It really must be bolted securely to the floor as it gets shaken all over the place otherwise. Just think about a head-on bump and all that weight just behind you! One tip - if they fit an upright water tank, make sure it has internal baffles to stop the water slamming back and to as you drive. Mine used to generate enough slop to slam the lids off the tank and the water ended up on the floor! Another useful add-on is a low level tap to get water out. Nothing worse than telling a custy you've got 50 gallons of water but can't get it out and can you use their tap!
I have a high top LWB transit and don't have much trouble parking but watch for height barriers. It goes in Sainsbury's car park in a standard space all right. Never been a ford fan before but this has been the most reliable vehicle I've had and its now got 190K on the clock.  Good luck with your choice anyway.
