R/O system help please...
« on: May 31, 2010, 11:43:53 am »
Hi again,

We’re looking to get a backpack water fed pole system and I have read extensively a lot of the advice offered on these forums. We’re looking to use the WFP for repeat 2 story cleans and awkward to reach windows, whilst maintaining trad methods on the ground floor for the time being. We have already explained to our customers that “we will be using traditional window cleaning methods to start with” but “once we’re satisfied with how clean the windows are, we will be switching to the latest technology and using purified water pole fed systems to reach those windows we can’t at the moment and the rest of the upstairs windows”. We have been met with no resistance to this as yet.

I’ve been in contact with Welsh Water to find out what my TDS reading is and apparently it’s 7.1 degrees Clark. According to good ‘ol wiki, 1 Clark = 14.254 ppm. So... if I’m understanding correctly my TDS reading is going to be around 101.2. I will buy a TDS meter but I don’t expect Welsh Waters figures are going to be that far out that it would make the difference between me buying an R/O system or a DI unit. To my question...

There doesn’t appear to be a huge amount of recommendation on the forums about R/O systems. Unless you guys tell me otherwise a 200GPD should be more than adequate. I have no idea how to measure my water pressure but I would describe it as looking pretty decent i.e. pretty powerful jet out of the hose pipe with a nozzle on, so I don’t think I would need a supplementary booster unit but, again, very open to advice.  I believe I need an R/O system, a polishing unit and a TDS meter. Can you guys recommend a reliable low cost system and what bit ‘n bobs I’m likely to need?

We don’t have a van at the moment, although this is a priority when the money is available. Our next purchase after the van is a hot water WFP system, hopefully before winter.

Thanks in advance,
Dunk

I'd recommend a static system in your garden (well insulated in winter) or in your shed with a 1000 litre tank. Because the filters are at home you can leave it purifying 24 hours a day, so you can get away with a smaller RO system. A 300GPD unit would prob be more than ample even with 2 workers especially if you are doing tops only.
You can get a pressure gauge in B&Q for about £7 and fittings for another couple of quid that will connect it to a garden hose,.. it really is essential to check this as low pressure means slow production, more waste water and a higher output TDS.
Personally I'd recommend this guy for top quality systems & bargain prices:
