Finally! Got a carpet cleaning video up!
« on: May 23, 2010, 11:39:50 am »
Hi all,

At last Ive managed to get up a half decent carpet cleaning video of a pub I regularly clean (about twice a year). I am quite happy with the end result so thought Id post it up on here. Im no Stephen Spielberg and did the camera work myself via a tripod and jazzed it up with a video editing package.

Hopefully it will get me a bit more work in!

Nice to see the "Scrubba Deluxe" in action, what a great bit of kit!!! The only thing I never liked  about it was that I suffered really bad pains in the heel of my right foot ??? As soon as I changed over to wanding, the pain just went.... Wierd really. When I used to work for a C/C in 2001, I used a Scrubba then with no problems at all.... I guess it's just a sign of me getting too old ;D

Are you using Extracta chems too? I used to find that "Lift Off" particularly good on mingers.......

Hi Colin

I remember when I first started carpet cleaning the guy running the course said you must keep your back straight when scrubbing. I must admit my back isnt great these days but its not been right for years. Ive put it down to lifting rather than scrubbing. I used a wand briefly last year and  nearly killed me!!

Yeah I get my chemicals from Extracta and Restormate (both local to me). Lift off is great. For the video I only put 1 capfull in the tank and the results speak for themselves.

John

can you add overlaid text with your software?

I have a policy of total honesty so I'll tell you the truth, its boring I doubt anyone would watch it after 30 seconds, it just the same thing all the way through, you need to add text to keep the watcher interested

its filmed well and a great video for showing how well your can clean.... but it needs something else.

Hi Mike

Fair comment! I understand where your coming from and did think of adding text to it but its knowing what to put???

Ill have a think about it. Its easy to redo with text so thats no problem with the software I use. I didn't really want to overdo it with fancy transitions, text etc... I just thought basic is best.

What do others think? If the consensus is its dull then Ill redo it with text

Off for my Sunday lunch now so see you all later...

John.

Very good video John, with a great result! I'm thinking of buying the scrubba this year sometime. I have found lift off and super chem to be really good chems.

Impressive cleaning results John.

It's not that the video is boring, it's just too long.

I think about 3 minutes watching a carpet being cleaned is long enough for a prospective client, perhaps if you condence it down to highlights.

Great video.

As has been said before it's a bit boring. Maybe instead of having the music you could have someone talking. Giving out some info. Or some text along the bottom. But impressive results. I have a couple of scrubbas and they are great. Although they are gathering dust at the moment.  But you never know when you will need one.

it needs an opening title page with your full name & phone number also a video title.

then tell a story eg.........

' the landlord of the black Bull public house was faced with replacing his carpets at a cost of over £4500, we offered him a much more cost effective solution.'

using the latest cleaning equipment we set to work cleaning his carpets to an almost new condition!

the black bull is one of many public houses we have cleaned in  20yrs we have been serving the northumberland area.

during this time our reputation for quality workmanship at a fair price has meant most of our work comes from personal recommendations

bla...bla..bla..bla..... you get the jist of what to say, all the way through they need to watch & read

Ok thanks for the advice guys.

I think Ill stick to the same length and add some txt along the way. I dont really need to add any contact info etc... as the video will be on my website with all the relevant information already on there.

I must be in the minority as I love to watch stuff being cleaned, I dont find it boring at all! And if I was a prospective customer I would like to watch how things are done but yeah I may decide to trim it a little.

At the end of the day Im happy with it but appreciate all the advice given. But txt is something I will most probably add within the next few days to liven it up a bit!

Thanks again for the advice

John its on YouTube, people will find it without seeing your website, if you give it a relevant title and put relevant information on it then it will show up in google searches.

Good video and weldone on a first attempt at filming yourself!

Like some have said, it is a tad long.

Aswell as adding text like people have said, you could have also shown the pre-spraying stages, even a few seconds showing you moving furinture, aggitation, showing the dirty water coming out of the waste valve etc etc just to break the length up a bit!

Also, on an anal note. The bit where you where cleaning the edge of the carpet with the hand tool. Might of been an idea to put a dust sheet down to protect the wooded floor. You and I know its not a big deal and can easly be wiped once done, But people watchin the vid might think this tech is a bit messy etc..

p.s. did a previous cleaner shrink the carpet? (first scene)

p.p.s. where can i get a scruba???

To Len

The landlord moves the furniture the night before so that helps ofcourse!

Tony: At the end of the day whatever I did in the video, no matter how good it was people will always nit pick. I dont mean that in a bad way but the video I have up is better than most of the ones Ive seen that shows before and after and at least I have one up. Most dont. There has been some great videos by members on this site but none of the ones Ive seen show before and after with any noticeable difference. I want my customers to look and say WOW - this guy is GOOD!! And if people think its too long all they have to do is press the stop button but by that stage hopefully Ive convinced them to use me!!

I like the spaghetti western video that was posted some weeks ago. Professional as it was it didn't show you how good their carpet cleaning skills were did it? Very good video producers, but carpet cleaners? Who knows!? I just wish they had actually shown some cleaning. Loved it tho!  :D

The average joe smith in the street who wants carpet cleaning done knows nothing about prespraying etc... so I saw no reason to include all of that. People want to see a carpet being cleaned to an exceptionally high standard and I think my video shows that. I also think that money is tight these days and if people are going to spend their money they would be willing to invest 9 minutes of their time to watch my video in the knowledge they will get a damn good carpet clean.

And with my equipment Ive not presprayed for 6 years, I dont need to and certainly didnt for the pub carpet video!! It was at most 2 passes on the carpet with the scrubba. Thats all.

I take your point about the wooden floor being sprayed. I had thought about not including it. I forgot to take before and after pics for it where I would have cleaned the wooden floor but hey Im not perfect  ;D

The gap in the carpet has always been there since I started cleaning the place. I dont think it was anything to do with cleaning but next time im there ill ask him why its like that.

I think Ill wait to see what kind of reaction I get from the public before changing anything major. I know the landlord at the pub is always blown away with the results and says I am 'the best carpet cleaner he has ever had in 20 years plus.' So as long as he is happy and I can get a lot of new customers with the video ill be happy.

Cheers for your comments I am storing them all up  ;)

John, I agree, people dont want to see you moving furniture, and pre spraying, the results of the before and after speak for themselves, although I do agree with others the video is long, but like you have pointed out when the customers have seen the results they can stop watching it anyway, your main aim is to have them watch it off your website, all other info is on their for them to see.

Was it super chem you used in the tank with a capfull of lift off?

Regards,

Paul

Hi Paul

Thanks for the kind words.

Yes I use Super Chem and a capfull of Lift Off. One spoon of superchem per bucket by the way - no more than that! I suppose I could put more than a capfull of Lift Off in but I dont really need to as I seem to get the results!!

I always add plenty of Defoamer I get from Restormate tho...it is far better than Extractas!

I agree John, super chem and lift off are great chems, imo the best I have used in my short time cleaning carpets, might take your advice and order some de-foamer from John at restoremate, is it the £5.95 one you use? I have only ever used the extracta de-foamer but have had a few occasions when their has been alot of foam in the recovery tank.....  ???
