Hello all,

My wife and I have exactly the same problems as you guys describe.  Even the local rags can be quite costly after time, with little reward...

We found that advertising in the local parish council newsletters, and a simple card in the "corner shop" works very well.  Just sometimes, the kind of person that you are looking for would not even consider going to the job centre to look for a cleaning job.

We know, and I have just touched my computer desk (wooden) have found three of our best girls this way. honest, trustworthy and most immortantly, relaible.

Just my thoughts

Kind regards
Paul

Hi Paul!

Looks like that's the way to go then..........especialy as Blue Arrow didn't get back to me or send me the info they promised.......obviously these Agencies aren't interested in us small businesses......they probably can't be bothered making the effort for so little income from people like us......the biggest problem I have at the moment is finding the time to go posting cards in shops........the ironing side on my business has gone thro the roof.........back ache here  come!! lol

Plenty of time.............

5 Star Personnel will send 1 or 2 people
but you need to have a full days work for
the people they send as they charge for 8 hours + milage.
I had a call last week for a rush job that afternoon which i could not do but  i can send some agency staff i have used before which the client had no problem with as he had been let down.one call to the agency 4 hours later/ 120 miles from there office
they had 4 staff there and even after paying them i still made £200 on the deal . next time the client will phone me first.

We don't have the problems we used to getting staff, in fact now its very easy. The problem now is finding staff who speak enough English to understand what is required of them!!

garyj,

Hear hear!!

Most of the enquires I have had recently, seems to be non english speaking males, whi have had no residential cleaning experiance. Most seem to have commerical experiance even though my add states that comm is not suitable.

Has anyone tried putting a small insertion on their websites?

Regards
Denise

Well it looks like my current problem of finding staff has been solved for the time being. I seem to have found myself a source of employees who are in existing cleaning jobs and are either looking to change or looking to top up their existing hours.

I have been approached by one of my existing cleaners whose friend works as a cleaner for a residential home (paid minimum wage, works awful hours). She starts with me tomorrow.....as a knock on effect one of HER colleagues is also looking for work and I am due to contact her with regards to starting with me in the near future.

I prefer to employ people who have been recommended to me by my existing girls as long as their references check out ok.

Hi all,

Seams like advise about the job centre could be true. I employed a lady to start today and she hasn't turnt up (what a surprise). But I would like to say that I did get one lady who does not speak a lot of english but is willing to work all hours. I have just rang her up as the lady who was suppose to turn up today has and she is very willing to help out a short notice. Well wll see how we go.

I just can't understand people that do not have the decent to give you a call and say that they do not want the job.

Sorry guys just letting off a bit of steam.

Hi Kim

I know how you feel  happens to us all the time

I think we run on a ratio of about 10-1 of people who say they want a job to the ones who actually do
