Anyone else using Flojo pumps ?
« on: May 17, 2010, 11:38:27 am »
Got a shed load of work on this week, and as i was having an intermittent prob with the Sureflo i thought what the heck, bite the bullet and fit one of these. It`s a 160psi demand pump, little bit longer than the Sureflo ,but still fits machine perfectly.and is cheaper !!
Fitted in under an hour, and is working perfectly !
So on my van i now have a spare vac motor,1 known working pump,1 spare pump, and an end bell kit to mend a Sureflo !
Noting is going to stop me now, really looking forward to be able to work, and not have reliability issues,in the back of my mind constantly !

First thing that springs to my mind with your thread Mark..... "Kiss of death!" ;D ;D ;D

I tempted fate last week when I said I'd never had a problem with my machine... Then I had some minor problems last week, including a leak from under the machine which turned out to be nothing more than a loose union.... The other 2 problems were straight forward, plug changes :D

Better not be Colin  :( ,well as long as i get the 2 big jobs completed, they alone are worth nearly £900 on their own !
And pump under warranty so will be going straight back if i get so much as a murmur from it !
Next i will be getting the van signed,as have greatly reduced yellow pages this year, need to try another avenue ,hoping it will pay for itself many times over,as i am constantly stuck in traffic in Cambridge

Dont spend a fortune on van signage.
It may work to an extent but it likely not bring you loads of work. I regularly get stuck in traffic in Warrington, but I dont get loads of calls.
If you run a theme thro your advertising, vans signs may just help memory jog if they see another advert of yours, then of course they quote that advert when really it could have been the van that started it.
You should get something good for couple hundred.

I had a company do me a design last year,as i was planning on getting it done before the start of the new tax year, but the money dried up.
It follows on in the style of my yellow pages and my website adds,so will hope that it pays for itself at least, and like you say Joe,i hope it jogs peoples memory's.Have also got the letting agy`s i work for asking if they can have space for their details, which should also help,as they are both big companies

If I remember right, mine cost £130 I think... I consider mine "Badly" sign written TBH, but I still get plenty of work from it ;)

You were partially right Clinton !!
After i fitted the pump i ran the machine for a good half hour, then checked for leaks, nothing !
Half way through job today, noticed a small puddle under machine  :( Don`t think i put enough thread tape on the high pres side,it`s only a drip, but need to get back inside and try and fix it.other than that it`s going great guns, really notice the extra psi from this pump

As suspected, just needed some more thread tape on the high press side of the pump  ;D
Machine is working like a dream again now,did 2500 sq foot of office today, started at 8 am back home to get the car to do a quote for 2.30 pm,happy customer + happy wallet.

Really really can`t believe this !!
Pump has been working fine until the other day, when it started pulsing, just like the others  :(
Flushed it trough,re filled it,all ok again.
Today however, got the upstairs done and part of the stairs, and ran out of sol, thought funny should have enough to fin the stairs at least, looked down too the front door, and see a huge puddle on the coir mat, flipped it up,turned pump on,and fluid is gushing out the pump end,it`s a demand pump,so out where the square bit is on top.Got on the phone to Woodbridge straight away, usual thing have to post it back, buy another one,but it`s flipping bank hol,got work booked Tue morn,so going to have to do the 120 mile trip, first thing Tue am and get a new one.
What is going on with me and pumps, what am i doing wrong ?
Put the new one in so i wouldn`t have reliability issues, swapped the spare one in which lasted 5 mins, took cap off cleaned put back together, still no joy,put new end cap on ,ran enough to do 1 more stair then tripped the lec off and wouldn`t work again !

In theory you have rebuilt machine.

Which is what I am doing today but other things get in way.

Pretty much yes,2 new vac motors and a new pump !
Is there anything else which would be likely to cause pumps to go so quickly ? Had a look at the valve that the solution hose joins too,and it`s a bit green.bought this Flojo in the hope it would last longer than the 3 months the Sureflo`s have been lasting,2 weeks and it`s bust..
I am flushing through with 10ltr of water end of every day,but the pump has Viton seals, and i only use fib and fab rinse in the machine,it looks like the sort of damage frost would do,as it`s just squirting out from the top of the pump

Im surprised that your getting the problems with the surflo pumps as they tend to be the most reliable.  As a rule, the pump id avoid is Flojet.....over priced & unreliable.  Are woodbridge going to take a look at the whole machine for you to see if they can diagnose any problems?

Richie.

I am wondering If spilt water from fill up is getting into your electrics.

Noticed a Powder residue on the inside of mine when I took it to bits indicaticating such a problem.

I have improved the seals

I bought the same Flojoe pump a couple of months ago from Woodbridge, and I have exactly the same problem, I have bought a replacement and have still to return the original faulty unit to see whether they are going to give me a refund under warranty.
The pump started to pulse and I had a drop in pressure and then the puddle of water under the machine caused me big problems.

I think in future I will stick with Shurflo.
