Price Increase Letter?
« on: May 13, 2010, 11:43:25 pm »
Hi All,

I need to put some of domestic customers prices up a little...

I'm struggling to put together a decent price increase letter!  Does anyone have one that they could email to me (andy@southerncleaningservices.co.uk)?

It would be a great help!

Thanks,
Andy

Dear Customer,

Please note that from our next visit prices will be increasing slightly to £
I have resisted doing so for many years in some cases, but due to rising costs it has become necessary to make a few small changes.
Please don’t hesitate in contacting me if you have any questions.
May I take this opportunity to thank you for your valued custom.
We look forward to continuing to ensure your windows are kept looking bright.

Kind Regards,
XXXXX XXXXX.

Many years ago I used to clean houses up North, this is what we did.
Whilst speaking face to face to the customer, we said "next time the price will be increased by XX amount." ALL said OK no problem.
An old friend of mine used to go collecting the money and said to his customers "hello, window cleaner" customer said "how Much?" he said "ten pounds please" they asked " has it gone up" he said "yes" and that was it. DEAL DONE.

I think it is definately better to see the customer face to face, after all you are their local window cleaner offering a good friendly service. Why hide behind a letter?

I think by sending letters etc with your telephone numbers etc on it, gives them the very easy option of cancelling..................
You have been warned!

I agree 100%, where possible customers are told face to face, but what do I do about the customers we NEVER see? Do I just leave the price as it is?

I have hundreds of customers, many of whom I have never met. So by giving a letter it enables me to put up my prices with minimum effort, this year I lost 1 customer as a result of price increase and to be honest I don’t think he would have stayed anyway.
In the time saved going around knocking to speak face to face I could knock many new properties and get new work instead.
I try to work smarter  not harder.

regards prices going up and find it depends on the customer - really chatty and nice, stroppy ............

i find with the good customers just a simple - the price will be £xx from next month as our insurances have gone up .....  i always do this in person when cleaning or collecting - never get a prob.

best customers ask you has it gone up yet? - i love that!  ;D

some even put up the price for me - thats the best customers.

for the stroppy customers - a letter is better regards the communication but they may see it as a big thing - way i see it is - i cant be doing with stroppy customers, just no need for it.

i normally have a two year price review - that way the price can go up by at least £2 or more.

works for me anyway

Here is mine,.. never had a cancellation yet & some of my prices went up 50%!

Dear Customer,

Because of rising costs (Inflation/fuel/insurance etc) Avondhu Cleaning services must implement small price rises for many of our customers. This price change will be effective from our next visit onwards. Our charge for your window cleaning will increase from:

€__________      To        €_________

The majority of our prices have not increased for 4 years so after taking inflation into account we believe that most of our customers will still be paying less for our services than they were after the last increase.

If you have any queries, or if you would like to change the scope of frequency of cleaning, please don’t hesitate to contact me at the numbers below.

Best Regards.

I had a letter from ASDA and a call from Tesco’s today telling me there milk and potatoes will go up this year and I did not get one for all the petrol prices going up so I think I will change to walking from Custy to custy. Get real mate inflation is a fact of life get used to it. Stop treating your customers like the nanny state did. Dont create a chance to complain. its looking for problems. I just up the price and that’s it. You want me you pay. I want potatoes & milk I pay. Why because we are a small business should we take the brunt of costs. Welcome to the business world. Its were the toughies hang out.

I put one half of the round up one year and te rest the following year but always tell my customers face to face when i collect and use the frase as might be going up so they can inspect the rise.

Never lose any customers as they know about things going up every year,
but if you ever notice the shops prices seem to creep up nearly every month through the year well it seems that way and fuel prices seem to be going up every week.

Sorry if you think i am complaining didnt ment too.

I have put together the following. What do you guys think?

---
Dear Customer,

Because of rising business costs (fuel, insurance, equipment etc...) Southern Cleaning Services have found it necessary to implement some small price increases.

This price change will be effective from the next window clean onwards. The cost for your window cleaning will change

From: £__________ To: £__________

These are the first price increases that we have had to implement since we began trading in 2005, and we do not foresee any further changes in the immediate future.

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact us using the details below.

May we take this opportunity to thank you for your custom. We look forward to continuing to ensure your windows are kept clean.

Kind Regards,
Andy Hiscock

I agree with telling people about price increases face to face, but I also think it should be put in writing so will hand them a note at the same time.
