Went to look a a job today and on a white wool carpet i found several drops of glue that have gone hard, i have it booked in for a couple of weeks time just wondered what would work best, i looked on the search facility and found very little i know Prochem did a product but have heard that it is not around anymore.
Also this house has underfloor heating i know this may sound silly as it will aid the drying and probably not present any problems but am i right? to be honest i am a little nervous as this house is unbelievable marble floors in the entrance, cinema room, swimming pool would never have got a look in without word of mouth from customer who is an accountant for him, so i want to get a good result if possible on these glue spots

If it's super glue there's not much chance you could try solvex from prochem also sand paper or re tuft which is what I would do dependant on what the client wanted of course and payment to suit.

James removed some glue this way before steam gun citrus gel get it soft and it should pull away very sticky when removed placed on tissue on top of my spotting tool box within a  minute it had turned into a hard lump again.

That's a good call I was sumising it was super glue which I don't have much luck with.

Gary to be honest i have never dealt with expanding foam on a carpet.

I would however remove as much as possible with the razor method then try a solvent i guess test first as they say

No its not superglue as its yellow like a resin type glue.

Not helpful, is nothing capable of getting this off a carpet if Prochem made something for this why has no one else, and why dont Prochem still do it, do i just say cant remove it.?

OK James, just a joke I use a grout removal tool (gently) to break-up these type of problem marks. Then go in with either a pog or citrus gel. Not likely to all come out first time but persevere and you should win. Trust thats of more help.

I tried to do the same with a nylon twist, and after a while the twist was untwisting. custy was ok, as had been prewarned about the limitations.

By the sound of it the carpet is fairly new. If the consumer knows the make of the carpet or which retailer supplied it you may be able 2 obtain some repair yarn and carry out a retuft as long as each glue spot no bigger than a thumb nail should not be a problem. If you have no experiance doing this ask your local friendly carpet fitter if he can help. I find the better the quality of carpet the easier it is 2 obtain the yarn.

Just had a thought, if the glue is a hard lump and possibly brittle could it not broken with a pair of plyers and then pog or citrus gel used.
Being squeezed would prevent damage to this wool carpet i would have thought.
Or how about freezing it and then using the plyers, I have some chewing gum remover that freezes, useless for chewing gum but could work, what do you think

Adhesives come in many different forms and mosr are difficult to remove because they are designed to chemically react and form permanent bonds.

It is best to try a range of solvents as you are inlikely to know what adhesive tyou are dealing with.

Acetone is the best chance on acrylic glues such as superglue. Just buy some nail varnish remover, not the acetone free one, it will be the same as acetone is a chemical not a blend.

Cheers Doug i will pop down to Boots, i suppose i will have to make sure the carpet backing is woven otherwise could have problems with applying to bonded backing, or apply very sparringly on a cloth to Glue, could i use an eye dropper to apply to glue.
