Do flyers work
« on: May 03, 2010, 08:04:33 pm »
I was wondering how effective flyers are.
I know canvassing is considered the best way to gain customers, but do flyers still have there place.
What sort of response would you expect to get from 5,000 flyers?

best to deliver them or pay someone to deliver then go back and knock doors 2 or 3 days later!
you will get a response but best to follow up by door knocking!

I have quite a few customers. All of which are from either flyers or referrals.

I have never once knocked on a door to get work.

There just another means of getting your name known, on there own they have limited success. But remember even if you don't get a call in the first day or two don't be put off as you could end up getting a call weeks later.

Forgot to say, when expandind into a new area, we drop leaflets saying who we are and what we do blah blah, then put on the leaflet that we will be calling in the near future to see if they are interested and answer any questions they may have.

Works very well for us.

About 6 months.

We were lucky in that when we started we had another business which was winding down so we didn't need to be full time straight away.

We put flyers out last month, we got the same 1 - 2 % call rate that we have always got.

So could I expect 1-2% of calls from 5000 flyers.
That seems quite good 50 - 100 houses.
How much more do you think is possible if you follow up by knocking?

A hefty percentage of my customers have come from leaflets. Can be demoralising if you spend a morning leafletting and get no response but stick with it.I've had calls from leaflets I've delivered 6 months+ before.Once you have an interested customer it makes sense to knock on the doors in the immediate area.I work in a semi rural area where they have a pamphlet type thing for local businesses which has been worth it's weight in gold.Cost £150 for 6 months but has paid for itself many times over.

I think if you leaflet one area 5-6 times the results will go up. The first 3-4 adverts tend to pass us by.

I've found a better than 2% success rate when I follow up by knocking. In UK I don't know but here I've had 30% hit rate in some areas. Mind you, I must say also that Squaddies don't have a windy on every corner.

People buy the person as well as the service. I think it's down to knocking that the hit rate is higher than just using flyers. I also believe that because I still collect personaly that our loss rate of custies is very very low.

Don't take my word for it, try it yourself. The worst that can happen is they all say "No thanks". That wont kill you.

We work on a monthly basis. If a round gets finished before the end of the month they will go out with the flyers.

Also on a less developed round if they have 1 or 2 houses on a street they will flyer all the other houses on the street every time they are there.
