posh vans
« on: April 29, 2010, 10:13:44 pm »
Do you think having a flash looking van gets more business??

Im just starting up and have a 1999 expert TD, its clean and drives very well got 89k on the clock only payed 1200 quid for it :)

Its just i see these brand new vans about with all the fancy graphics and stuff and it just makes me feel a bit inferior!!!!!

Do what you need to do to have the best service available in your area.

Flash van does not equate to the best service.

As long as you are trying your hardest and your level of quality is high you will get to the point where you can decide whether a flash van makes you and your business better.

a van is just a van & can be look at in all sorts of ways in business.
dont worry about it, if it does the job thats all that matters. old or new who cares?
the only thing i would say is keep them nice n clean  ;)

hi there

vehicles should be clean and tidy, and if they are sign written at all, then its free advertising.

it all helps to portray an image,

if im visiting a client in an office an my car is dirty i will park it away from the front door, its all about perception.

regards

martin

I have just replaced my scruffy but very reliable 1988 (F) Fiesta van for a clean and tidy 1999 (V) Fiesta van.

Some customers (and non-customers would you believe!) have already said they miss my old van!

No, it doesn't seem to matter to custys, as long as you do a good job and keep coming, they don't care what you drive.

A sign written van is important, the year on the number plate isn't really a big deal, if anything it will loose you work being newer.  Just get the old van sign written.

It allways amazes me how many wc's come on here and other forums and even off the forums moaning about the perception of window cleaners amongst the general public. How we are believed to be dole boys just earning enough to get down the pub,yet many are still trying to believe that their image has nothing to do with it. ::)

"old fords never die " eh johnny !

im still using  an "old duffer" type car ,a FiAT BRAVA  for heavens sake  but its lowly image has raked in plenty of work for me. But not for much longer as iv just bought a Peugeot partner van. this is 10years old and has plenty of dings along one side(not broke the paint though, luckily ) and i can see my customers commenting on this new van, but as it doesnt look "in yer face" i dont expect to lose anybody from it

Posh vans could have the opposite effect for domestic work - they might think they are paying too much just to help fund your van. I really don't think residential customers care. Most of the established cleaners in my area use old saloon cars ladders and buckets and have most of the best properties. They have full rounds, no websites, no signwriting and clean all the local schools. They must laugh their scrims off at the rest of us in our shiny vans and reach and slosh systems trying to look flash.  ;D

Ha ha! That's quite good actually!
Certainly better than those dreadful pickup things that pretend to be offroaders!

Yes, my old van was still very reliable, but every year it needed more welding, until last year my MOT station told me not to bring it back this year!. Shame really, I had really become attached to the old girl! I had to put my sensible head on and get a replacement though, hence the very reluctant decision to update.

You'll do just fine with the Pug. As I said, from my experience custys dont care what you drive, as long as it gets you to work!

John.
