I know it's been along time since i played with the inside of a pc but this has beat me?
Do you have a street side pc shop near you where you could try the hdd in a caddy before you buy it so as to make sure the hdd runs ok in it.

No my pc guy is a 50 mile round trip I'll have a scout around to see if there is a local pc shop were I could try before I buy, I wonder if pc world would try it for me?

Thanks Dave, I sat up last night and created one, Its only to say what I'm providing all my contact details and the price, and on the back I just printed my T&C.

Yipeeeee! I did it 

All my documents and pictures are back on my new PC, It was the way it was booting up, I changed the boot up sequence and windows started.

I was able to copy all the files I needed from my old drive D and transfer them to my C drive, once I did that, I reinstalled my new D drive and change the boot up sequence back to the way it was and all is working fine now,  all my documents are now on here.

the difference is that both drives have a opperating system on them but as long as it only boots from the master it should'nt be a problem. Are you sure in bios it only boots from the master in boot syquence

Clad you sorted it Jeff,,,,it was trying to boot up from the old hdd .

Took me a couple of hours today but I got there in the end.
Thanks for all your help last night, I still have my spare hard drives, so I'm still tempted to get that saddle from Maplins.

If you get one and back up data on it and your pc goes down, just plug it into another pc and all your data is there without having the trouble you just had.
you got there in the end though
