Did he say he was going to do it all in one day?

I think what he is saying is that in his eyes this is a big job, which is worth the equivalent of two days work for him and that he was surprised that the client didn't question the price.

This could be for several reasons, he has in fact got lots of money and no grasp on value, he understands the value of money and thinks he has got a bargain, he understands the costs of the job and has paid what he expected to pay.

charge what the hell you want, thats why we work for ourselves

But to charge different prices for the same amount of work for no other reason than they look rich, that is morally wrong.

We are all in business to make money. I don't think you should ever limit yourself to a 'day' rate. Yes, it is good to have something to aim for but you shouldn't let it dictate the maximum you allow yourself to earn in a day.

Each job should be priced to the maximum you think you can get for it (unless there is a good reason not to do so such as a loss leader to gain more work). How you come to that figure, be it house, area, car on drive or profession of the owner is entirely up to you and not something you need to apologise for or justify to anybody trying to judge you.
