Mysterious mauve stain
« on: October 27, 2004, 09:56:00 pm »
Yeah, yeah. I know I'm a newbie but we've all got to start somewhere. Anyway, I've been asked to shampoo a bedroom carpet for an old lady and asked if I can possibly remove these large mauve stains.
The background is this. Carpet is wool and about 30 years old :o. There was a definite smell of urine, staining around the bed and the lady (bless) has admitted the odd accident including spilling the commode (where one of the stains are). Yes, I know what you're thinking; get a new carpet, but I have been asked to try my best. Carried out warm water  extraction, then a mild shampoo/agitation and another extraction and final vacuum. The mauve colour from the stains did start to come out into solution but I just couldn't get the stain out. The rest of the carpet came up OK.
Any suggestions as to what the stain is and the best way to shift it would be greatly appreciated. Is it possible that colour has previously leeched out from felt underlay???

Hi,

Could it be the purple disinfectant that you can buy that is supposed to smell of berries or flowers (commode, urine, disinfectant)?

Or it could be a mauve hair rinse or setting lotion! I can remember my grandmother having a blue stain around her hairline from a blue hair rinse...beautiful!!

Could the mauve stain be from a rug that was on top of the carpet when the lady had her accident?

Thanks for the suggestions. I think the coloured rugs and blue rinse are not the case. However, she does keep a whole host of household cleaners in her room. Possible recation to one of those? I will let you know if I found out.
