Tried my New Gutter Lance Today
« on: October 04, 2007, 01:39:38 pm »
Well my own house was the first victim to this weapon, I have in the past done my own guttering and all  from a ladder, today I tried my new gutter lance on it? and WOW!

It used to take me around 30-40 minutes to do a complete side, today it took me just over 10 minutes to do the whole section, this included guttering in and out, fascias and soffits, (Mind you my soffit is only 3'' wide)  I didn't do a type of job I would do for a custy, today was a training day, but the overall results were very good.

I even took the time to do my workshop guttering, but oops I forgot that most of the clips were broken and I blasted my workshop guttering up onto the roof, but I'm glad this happened to me and not a custy, its something I will be aware of when I price a potential or existing custy in the future.

Its a heavy bit of kit, so I better get the dumb bells out, I also think I should buy the harness.

I said to the Boss, I would feel a little guilty about taking the same sort of money for a job that used to take me maybe an hour and a half and is now going to be done in less than half the time, she reminded me that we have invested a lot of money for my safety and customers don't really care how you do the job, so long as its a good Job, good choice of words I thought, so my price's will stay the same.

I now have one of my daughter booked in for a freebie (well fried breakfast) gutter clean  she has white guttering were mine is that Grey stuff
So it will be nice to see what sort of Job it does on them.

any chance you can do a vid of you using it? I still cant under stand how you can do it from the floor with the same results as a ladder, I am open minded about everthing so am well interested to learn more about it.

Sorry Ian I don't have a video camera?

If you can imagine using a pressure washer cleaning a drive or something then all you are doing is using just a longer lance, It just blasts the dirt off the guttering, I used a low pressure nozzle and guttering attachment to clean the inside of the guttering out, (a high pressure one is better) I then used the high pressure nozzle to clean the out side sections.
Its very easy to do the Job but there a little on the heavy side, I hope I get used to it quick? because I have 6 houses in one road to do soon.

Yes it is water, its a pressure washer. ;D

Some of the guy's who use the lance use different methods, some just use the lance to clean the inside of the guttering only, some use it for the inside and out side plus facias  (this will be my way of working) and they then use a wfp to clean the soffits (connected to custy's tap.)

I Don't mind the questions, but there are guy's on here with tons more experience than me,I'm just a learner don't forget ;)

I did do my own soffits with the lance and later went into the loft to check for any water, there was no sign of water in the loft, but I wouldn't chance it on a custy's house.

Regarding the c*** I'm sure it will blow every where, but if you play with the angle of attack with the gutter attachment, you can keep the c*** in the area your working on.
I will only do the guttering if it includes a w/c as they will need to be done afterwards.

If there are a lot of debris in the gutter I get out the ladder and bucket and empty the worst of it by hand,.. that's only if the grass is growing visibly though. You do get some stuff going down the walls,.. but its only 10 seconds work to rinse down the walls when you're done.
As for water going in under the eaves,.. I used to be extreemly careful with it,.. but now I just do my best, but don't hurt myself to avoid vents etc etc and I've never had a complaint. A guy I know who's a builder told me that unless the house is over 30 years old, it should be fairly impossible for water to get far enough in to do damage,.. especially if it's PVC fascia and soffit,.. I tried it on my own place to be sure,.. blasting water into the vents underneath,.. then went into the attic to check,.. and it was bone dry as far as I could see.

It all depends on what type of pressure washer is on offer and if the lance comes with the gutter cleaner and any Jets
