Cheers for the replies fellas, I might try what malcolm and charliboy say. I will try to avoid switching for certain reasons but Alliance & Leicester and Abbey sound good

Shinner,

Your confused mate, thats how much they cost per commision. I never said what and how many of what I got charged for.

I pay in hundreds of cheques alone, every time I walk into the bank it costs me money.

Oops !!.  I thought those amounts were the totals not the per item charge.  I wondered why you were saying the cost was so high.  I use Abbey myself.  The first 100 cheques a month are free.  Up to £3,000 (I think) a month cash is free as well.  Electronic transfers, also free.  I've never paid them a penny yet but I have withheld a few cheques for a few days until the following month if I've received a lot.  The downside is that you can only get the reference number for who has paid you AFTER the month has ended - though the account holder's name shows up before that.  Also, all transactions must be carried out at ATM or internet or by phone.  Coins need to be kept as cash float but I just use them for my draws.
Each cheque over the 100 a month is charged at 50p I think.  If you deposit lots, you could always filter it via a personal account and electronically transfer it as one transaction and hope the bank doesn't notice.
