mass canvass
« on: November 19, 2006, 09:19:00 am »
hi all !
Im thinking of doing a mass canvass by getting 10 000 leaflets done, and distributing at all my nearest towns local car parks putting them under the windscreen wipers of cars .
I know i wont get the same response as door knocking, but just wanted to know if this will be a good idea or not .?

You will always get a result from leaflets, its just normally very low % (1 - 2 %)

If it took you a week to do your 10,000 leaflets and you were to door knock for a week, the door knocking would return a better rate hands down, probably as high as 10%

A word of warning, DONT put leaflets on cars in carparks as when the owner of the car throws your leaflet onto the floor, the car park attandant reports you for littering and YOU will be held liable!!!

Thats why you rarely see this form of advertising anymore.

I hope Pylofm doesnt mind me using this but this is how far he has got with leaflets, as you can see it is less than 1% in fact 0.6%

10,720 leaflets out & 62 customers, 1 more quotes to do this week, 1 to do next week. . . Running since 7th Aug 06 (14wks)

yeah but look at how many leaflets you can put out in an hour compared to how many doors you can knock in an hour.

Very true, but what would you prefer to do, delivery 1000's of leaflets, take a week to do it and get a return of 1 - 2% or knock on doors for the same amount of time and get more business, qualify your frequency etc....?

Work smarter not harder??

I have over a period of time put out 10k of leaflets....I honestly believe that if I were in a position to canvass....I would do it....

At present leaflets are my 'way' and it is building but slowly....I target mainly semi's and larger properties....I try to steer clear of terraced types area's (just my choice)

I have tried having others canvass for me but this has not proved too successful for a few reasons.

In my opinion leaflets followed by canvassing would be my 'answer'.

Cheers
Dave.

Ive tried leaflets but not had much response. I find the best way is to door knock for new customers. I tend to knock after 5 in the evenings, but best by far i have found is on weekends. The better day at the weekend for me i have found is a Sunday, people tend to be in and seem alot more relaxed!

I found leaflets a complete waste of time and trees. When I was starting up, for the first few weeks I put out 1000ish and got perhaps 5 replies. Whereas I found door-knocking seemed to average 3 customers per hour. Also I found so many houses have a sign on their letterbox "No Junk Mail Thank-you" and I felt a bit reluctant to disregard the notice.

Hi niceandclean, I've often thought about a little canvassing of a sunday but have always thought that people might be a bit miffed. Did you find people OK with you knocking on sundays....also what sort of time do you start knocking?

Hi Simon, No matter what time of week or day you knock you will always find people a little rude. I tend to target bigger houses, i only have a couple of small semis on my books, most of my customers are professional people, Doctors, Directors ect. When i knock on a Sunday i tend to go out around 3ish till about 7-8, finish times depend on how well i have done. I went out yesterday and got 215 worth of work, every 4 weeks, got all that by 5.45 but carried on till 7. I had 2 phone calls today saying they got my slip, one wanting windows cleaned and the other a one off conservatory clean along with fascia and gutter clean, got to pop out to see them on wed. I find that if you knock in person, tell them that it will be you that will clean they prefer that, build up a little repor with them. A few of the houses i have knocked have used,  in the past,  bigger cleaning firms, but didnt like them as they would get different cleaners every month, so i find knocking in person is the best way, and never worry about going out on a Sunday to knock as this is by far the best day to get business, well in my opinion!!!

Genreally I prefer to canvass to increase my round.

At the begining of September I said to my son I would canvass for him, I wanted to lay a foundation for him so he could build upon it. I stopped at the end of October. He as about £860 of work in total. Not bad for two months canvassing.

I only canvass for about an hour twice a week. So I spent about 16 hrs alltogether  canvassing. Not a bad return. Its all good work paying between £30 to £40 an hour. I got £200 of work on one street.

The round belongs to me as I cavanssed it. If he packs w/c in after a couple of years, the round that I canvassed  returns to me. I will then either absorb it with my work. Or sell it on. If I get three times its value I will pocket £2,500.00.

Not bad for 16 hours work.

My wife dropped off several hundred leaflets. we got about £100 of work from it.

Use leaflets and canvass. As long as your round is growing and going in the right direction, thats all that mattters.

Nel.

Wah, that's crazy neil100, well done.

This area near me seems infested with WC's, really hard to get my round! Been busy since August, and only have 45 customers.....well, all of them over £10, and quite a few over £20! (even one of £70 and one of £60)

So, I suppose I can't really complain? :)
