What do you use yours for??

When I first got mine I thought they were great, I've now retired them to a screwed up soggy corner in the van and got the good old scrims back out.

I dont mind them for detailing, but for ragging I find they just dont match a scrim. Anyone else feel the same.

Dont get me wrong mate they are ok, good for detailing but my opinion is they dont match scrim for ragging, I like to rag quater lights etc

Each to his own, I recommend you try them they aint that bad.

I think they are great on leaded windows but polish off with a dry scrim also they are great for detailing

i got this last week... washed in once... brilliant..

was so big i cut in in half..

gets every smear one wipe !

I would like to add that I work with dry cloths, scrim or fibre which I think is a factor here. I get water for ragging from my side bucket I either flick my dolly up leaded windows leaving a line of water up the window then buff, or blob quater lights and buff. Sometimes I like a wet corner on my scrim which I obviously utilise.

When I first got my micro's it felt wierd not taking a scrim with me I eventually got used to it but it still felt strange, I cant be without my dearley beloved scrims all 13 of them there all at diffrent stages in life (broken in) there like old friends to me

Ideal for detailing, good for "bulls eyes"/mullions - applicate then rag with dry microfibre, perfect.
great for insides too.  wet rag and drywipe /buff with microfibre

Your like me pj I dont see the point of a spray bottle, seems like alot of hassle maybe even dangerous does it fit in a belt?

i know you guys know that i am new ,

but i used the microfibre terry cloth and it was horrid,

it was pj who told me to get the flat weave and the one above i am sure was what he meant...(post above)

so i got it ,
it brilliant, i use it totally dry for the edges, one wipe chrystal clear.!

now i use the terry weave for the sills as suggested by p.j.... equally good

Use the large flat weave microfibre cloths and they totally knock scrims into  a cocked hat for detailing and buffing.
Scrim doesn't even come close. and I've used scrim for almost 23 years....

The cheap microfibre you can get from the likes of B & Q or Wilko's are a poor substitute for the large ones that the likes of Unger do.

But don't cut them in half!!

Get used to the full size ones.

Squeaks likes to use the small microfibre cloths, but I think most will prefer to use them full size.

I wfp all tops trad all bottoms the only bottoms i wfp is leaded or georgian so the only thing i use microfobre for is for detailing which i think they are great, but only when they are dry.  When you use a microfibre wet it seems to leave marks so in the respect of scrimming they are not as good

well mine was a metre long so i halved it otherwise i felt like iwas wiping the edges with a bed sheet....

also some of it touched the damp bit of the window and i felt sure it would touch,
also not comfy to hold and screw up as so large... just my opinion.

Re: microfibres...Someone else told me.....
You just have to try these thing for yourself, some suit you others don't, you have to fiddle about to get the right stuff, there's good and bad everything.
When it works, just pass it on, pass it on.  Others can take up  suggestions or miss out!

Hi Ian,

I find them brilliant for detailing much better than scrims but for buffing I find they leave a mess, loads of white smears which a scrim wouldnt.

I use unger big ones clean them regulary but for buffing its got to be scrim for me, I may try another brand and maybe Etorre  

Some of you know how I feel about ettore   I will say no more.

I've got a load of micro-fibre, but I prefer a scrim for detailing.  I only use my micro-fibres as 'sill cloths', to do the mopping up or wiping down frames.

They wring out really easily, so the same one will last me for days before washing it!

micro terry weave are only good for mopping.... please try micro flat weave... then come back
