As they say you get what you pay for spruce but you will only find out if something goes wrong and someone makes a claim against you how bad or good the insurance policy cover is.

Basic public liability is indeed not ideal cover to have for sure in this day and age. Insurance cover is also very specific to what activities are actually covered too so you might think you are covered when say doing a conservatory roof, gutter, solar panel clean etc but if it's not written into the policy doc you could find out the hard way you are not covered  for that activity. Ladder usage is also very specific too as most don't cover over a certain height.

People tend to go for the cheapest basic cover which to be honest I think from my own experience is a total waste of time.

Only one I would recommend for peace of mind would be gleaming (hiscox) insurance if you want a comprehensive insurance policy.

I'm covered with simply business- £5 million public liability for window cleaners - one off payment- £95  for the year  ;D

I was with simply business for a while until I found out they do not cover for glass worked on I also know some one who took a policy out with them this year  and cancelled when he found out the same.
Unless they have changed and now offer this I would double check your policy.

I use A plan for both public liability and my van insurance to cover glass worked on and system fitted in van.

I found a-plan ok with van insurance but was shocking experience to get a quote from them  for the activities I wanted covered including treatment risk and property being worked upon so I gave up in the end.

Also found out later from one of the a-plan bods that frequents the various forums they are not brokers for hiscox so could not compete with the comprehensive cover hiscox offer.
