We could point out that it's distilled and not deionised, all though the end result is pretty much the same.

Best other use I've seen for DI water is insulation against an electrical current - electricity cannot flow through it - but I'm sure we all know that.

Gonna replace radiator hoses in my 78 triumph spitfire this weekend and flush all the gunk out of it. My hanes manual says soft rain water is best to fill it with (plus anti freeze of course before anyone mentions it )
So think I'll just use water from my vans tank

Don't put it in your car mate, purified water is so aggressive!!!! Do yourself a favour and get a copper fitting and put it in some purified water and leave it a few weeks, then decide whether you want to put it in your cars cooling system.

ok, but if rain water is soft and only a few ppm tds then how is ro water different ?
why is it that hard water stains glass, furrs up kettles and kills washing machines and that people buy domestic ro units for the house to stop this happening and use copper plumbing.?

It's got to be something to do with the final stage (resin) I tried using copper reducers between my micro ore and valve. Every couple of weeks they started developing tiny pin holes in the fittings, kept replacing and kept happening. Only with copper tho, got stainless fittings now and no probs, domestic Ro don't normally use resin, mainly just Ro water not deionised, hope this helps

my ro water before di is about 30 ppm so higher than what I am lead to believe rain water to be (well from what I've read on here from those that harvest rain water), so maybe I shall use that, had never thought about topping up with soft water before in cooling system ( not being interested in cars prior to this) but its what the hanes manual recommends.

Curiously enough the thought of sitting in the bath with a voltage present didn't appeal  

I have a customer who makes and tests oil rig drilling equipment, amongst other things, and part of his background involves power stations, specifically the one on the Isle Of Grain. Apparently deionised water is used to cool the turbines because being 0 TDS, and therefore containing no electrolyte, it isn't possible for the current to flow through it. This isn't done for human safety but rather to protect the integrity of the turbines themselves as even a relatively small arc could damage the blades. DI resin is used on site and is regenerated via an industrial sized acid bed. Water TDS is measured continuously and resin changed when the reading creeps over 0.0002 or thereabouts - point being it's a bit more critical than for window cleaning. Although perhaps there is a market for parts per billion......

I get the point but can't really see the issue as you should be mixing it, anything up to 50:50, with anti-freeze.

We should all know that, as our TDS meters are just testing the electrical conductivity of the water; use a multimeter if you don't believe it.

Use it in your steam iron. If you live in a hard Water area you know they scale up very quickly
We've had the same steam generator iron for years whereas we used need a new one after a year before

I did think of making and selling scented ironing water but it was a lot of messing about for not that much money. Tescos sell it for about a pound
