Canvassing...not as bad as we thought !
« on: May 24, 2012, 09:40:49 pm »
Hi fellow GVT's

Well we've gone from 2 men in 1 van to 2 vans and 3 men and we now employ someone who is very very good. He's been with us since the start of November 2011. Its not been without pain we've been through 5 or 6 muppets, and when I say muppets i am being very polite!

We decided a couple of weeks ago to give canvassing a bash. Never done it before in 7 years wc'ing but if we want to become big time players and want the rainbow then we gotta put up with the rain. Expansion is key for us.

So, we headed off to a small town / big village near us in Notts to give it a bash.

we've done 1 night a week for 3 weeks and we're really pleased with the results:

Day 1 - 7 new customers...5 em and 2 eom
Day 2 - 6 new customers...5 em and 1 eom
Day 3 - 9 new customers...7 em and 2 eom

That's three Wednesday evenings from 17.00-19.30 and 22 new customers.

We were scepticle but we're actually enjoying the challenge of seeing who can get the most new customers.

I think double sided colour flyer with addresses and mobiles on, uniform and sign written van,  mixed up with some good old fashioned doorstep politeness and banter has helped us a lot.

BRING IT ON!

Well done mate it gives you the motivation to carry on now  :)
I've gained 6 new customers this week just from knocking the neighbours doors whilst out cleaning!
3 new ones today - @ £20 total only little 4 window bungalows but can't complain

Next day off I'll be out canvassing - it does get easier you just need to persist  ;D

Dunno, just been a long time since I door knocked but I'm definitely going to try it soon, so much faster than waiting on flyers.

Defo better than flyer for speed - I had a woman ring me yesterday regarding a card I dropped in February! She said she "desperately needs a cleaner but just kept forgetting, what with one thing and another"

£30 house tho so I'll forgive her  ;D

So off we went again last night..Our 4th Wednesday on the trot to go canvassing after a full day's work..

We were out from 17.00-19.00 and it the 2 hours we picked up 9 new customers 7 em and 2 eom. Then had a call today from someone else who was out and got our flyer. Quoted and sorted it so that's 10 new customers in 2 hours!

So that's 4 days done now and 31 new customers !!!!!

We've got 6 Weds left to do and then we're gonna review it, but if it keeps going like this we'll probably just carry on canvassing.

I'll update again next week.

I just can't be bothered with canvassing, i just wait for them to come to me through word of mouth, being seen working on the job, and website.

I find they're usually the best custys in the end, takes time to build though...

yeah we get plenty of word of mouth jobs too. We just fancied giving canvassing a go..

We were very pesimistic but its turned into a bit of a competition between the three of us to see who can get the most jobs in 2 hours !

You're the one who makes it a competition I''m all for "Team Work"   ::)
Although i did get more than you this week  :P

Its all about getting the work quickly for us hence the canvassing, we naturally get 80+ jobs every year via word of mouth, seeing us out and about and the van sign writing. But why wait a year to get the 80 customers, we have had over 40 in May this normally would have taken 5/6 months to naturally come in.

We want 500 customers soon and at this rate 6 weeks and we'll have them.

Admittedly the ones we are knocking up are not at our usual high price or even house type as we are targeting estates purely to build some tight knit days work.

Oooooo that is shiny!!

Morning men..and women

So after a days work yesterday, somehow avoiding the rain we headed off door knocking.

We did from 5.00-18.30 and picked up 5 more new customers. 4em and 1 eom.

Thats now 5 Wednesdays done and 36 new customers.

Roll on next Wednesday !
