I've suffered badly with this in the past.
You need a HYDROCORTISONE cream/ointment. Boots sell it; you have to ask for it. It's a weak one. For a stronger one, see your GP.
And you have to keep your hands moisturised with a good quality perfume free moisturiser; the one with the Danish flag on it (can't remember the name) is good.
Also, if your hands get to the 'falling to bits' stage, get four pairs of cotton glove liners (from boots) and some extra large black marigolds; and put a permanent barrier between your skin and the soap.
I found my skin toughened up over the years; but in the first two years my hands were really bad; like claws at one stage.
