Why should multi millionairs get child benefit ::)

at least with ian, there is a chance that he will eventually put more back into the tax system more than he has taken out.

Investing in someone, can be a benefit to the whole ;)

Tax credits will still ask him that question

no they wont dave, they will merely ask a serious questions and will decide whether you are entitled or not and none of the questions involve on why you left your paid employment.

if you were trying to sign on for unemployment that would be different

i reckon people associate claiming working tax credits with being on the dole.......simply not the case......working tax credits are a safety net for those who are working either employed or self employed (like wot most of us are) and in some cases the extra amount paid by the working tax folks is actually more than the state unemployent amount per week.....ie i think the weekly amount for the unemployment benefit  is about 40-50 quid a week for a single person?......whereas if he/she were to get out and about looking for work and sevicing that work (including collecting/bookkeeping etc)  at least 30 hours a week as a self employed window cleaner/painter/whatever then the highest weekly amount goes up to around 80 quid a week PLUS whatever they earn, which in the 1st couple of years of being self employed is going to be pretty much dross anyway....so in my book the working tax is the better option.

you can go onto the working tax web site and they have a section on "do I qualify"

click on this and it will tell if you will get tax credit and also how much.

Don't take much notice of the ones who object to this, don't forget you have already paid into this fund by the taxes you are already paying.

Ian

.

Before you start a part time job, check with the tax credits office if you are elligable, also apply for council tax and housing benet

Why should i pay tax money to support someone who has left a perfectly good full time job ?

You will find the system will tell him the same, Tax credits are for those in genuine need, not for for those down sizing there income.

No its for getting money you are entitled to under the system why be so righteous as to say if you are eligible you shouldnt apply

:o  .... took the plunge and resigned from my job yesterday .. was sitting their in the bosses office whilst he finished his phonecall and was thinking dont have to do this ... can play safe etc ... then thought better of it and gave him my resignation .... 3 weeks notice  then im on my own !!

Going spend next few weeks looking for a part time job to keep some cash coming in as well as canvassing nearer to my leaving date.

Looking back Im 100% sure Ive made a good decision.

Thanks to all of the guys who have given me some great advice over the last few months !  ;)

good luck ian we have all been their sat in the bosses office, going through the motions in a job we hated....then come Monday its a new start.
their are a lot of inspiring posts on here about peoples experiences when they first leave their old job to start in window cleaning well worth a read.
i would say set your self little income goals then another then another then another.
set your self a income goal for where you want to be 1st may 2011.
deliver good service and word will spread.
in the tough times remember the dread of going to your old work place.

DMSI - we aren't all millionaires expanding our empire across the South-West! England. The World.  ;)

If the guy is starting up a new business then he is perfectly entitled to claim what is legally available. He might even be eligible for grants.

Let him find out what he can claim and let him claim it I say - as long as it's legal and above board.
It's a game of three halves!

I placed an advert for some part time canvassers on friday and when I take them on I will be getting £1000 for each one.

Maybe I should give it back :o
