I notice the question regarding how the van was stolen is still unanswered, although we have speculated they got the keys.
If they did obtain the keys, I wonder how that occurred, and would like the thread originator to explain the circumstances, in case there is a lesson for us all.
NB
There is a clause in the Ionics 'hot standby' insurance policy that says that if they are unable to provide the stanby due to non availability, they will refund the premium!
In that event, that would not be adequate compensation at all!
let's just hope it's never required!
Refunding the premium would indeed be totally inadequate. Anyone buying that policy would want access to a van - not their money refunded.
I don't have such a policy myself. I suppose I would rough it for a while with trolley, backpack, barrels and a rented van. Not pleasant but at least I would earn something.
It certainly would!
Basically what they are saying is if we cannot supply you with the replacement van and system, we will repay you £42!
This is not good enough, IMO, as they are not providing the business continuity cover that you pay the premium for.
However, they did assure me the situation has never arisen, but with more Ionics systems being sold, the possibility must be increasing in my opinion.
They did say that Ionics have a similar van, and they think a loan could be arranged if rthey equired, so I think you have to take the policy and hope it's never required.
Short term you could inform customers, and like you rightly say, buy water and use trolleys if needs be.
