Mr D you are mad,

Do not sell,

I repeat do not sell.

You are the same age as myself,

Itd take a stupid amount for me to sell up.

Especially at 34. Employ and build!!!

Do you have any other plan may I ask?  Im sure you have.

Blimey! I wasn't expecting so many replies!! I just chose the 50k example as it is a nice round number. I was just wondering how viable it was to make money by building up good rounds and then selling them off as complete busineses with a van and equipment every couple of years or so. This is because I am very motivated when building the business, but once it is built I start to lose motivation a bit at times. But if all I could get was 25k, its not worth even considering, 100k and I would definately take it!

Perhaps I should start employing, but I provide a high quality service for which I charge a good price, and every employee I've had has needed to be watched constantly as they just don't seem bothered if the windows are actually clean or not!  :-\

50k worth of work?....you would pay half of that to buy it if it was good paying work with no dodgy custies.

you would then employ somebody to do that work and pay him half of the value, ie 25k a year....in year one you make nothing., but every year after that you make 25k for doing very little. 8)

very good investment. ;)

I wouldn't sell a 50k a year round for anything less than 50k, even then I would have to think long and hard about it. I think if done right it could be worth far more, I was talking about selling my round as a complete ready to go business.. with a sign written van, equipment, business cards, flyers, and all well established customers, also a manual detailing everything. I think that the right person would be prepared to pay good money for a ready made business like that!

I'm relying on it but whether they will have the funds to buy it is another thing.

If some one is in the market to buy a business chances are there out of work.

Thats the key point! Its all very well saying a round is worth this amount or that amount. Its only worth that if you can find someone who is willing to pay it.

Around here you can't sell rounds, nobody will buy them unless its a small token amount. I've been asked if I want to buy work many times and I don't. Several window cleaners I know of have just abandoned their rounds because they couldn't sell them.

If the round is generating a real profit and not just a low wage then i would package it as a business and try to sell in line with other business, which would be about 2 times the net yearly profit.
