As far as I'm concerned they can be cocky, rich, and a number of other things.  But if they mess my money around too often and I can afford to dump them, then they're dumped.   I don't dump customers for messing me around in the past but I do if I feel they are likely to mess me around in the future.  It sounds like you believe that he's likely to mess you about in the future so maybe you need to dump the job?
I don't find it easy but I always try to keep emotion out of such decisions.  That way, I make a better business decision.  Please note that I don't always succeed in this regard.

I have a new strategy for dealing with people that mess me about, especially the leave them this time brigade. I now tell them I will do them every other month for 50% extra. They except that, or are dropped. Dai

Yes.  I like to keep it as low stress as possible too.  I believe that I have the ability to earn some very big money but would I be able to handle the stress of getting to that point and sustaining the income level?  I have seen peoples lives ruined by stress and I have seen people die with stress probably as part of the cause.  It's still possible to earn very well in this game without putting ourselves through the roller coaster.
I see and applaud some people on the forums doing extremely well but question whether I would be able to cope with the way they do business.  I am not criticising anyone here.  Some people just handle it better and I wish them well.

Insist he pays up front for the next three cleans - if not - then bye bye.
It's a game of three halves!
