For those who employ people what do you do in the event of a week or do of really bad weather; obviously these guys still need paying???

Any advice would be great; thank you 😊

Never had a week of bad weather (thankfully)

our guys are on 'flex' so so days they work 4 hrs some uptown 10 hrs (usually summertime) we provide a minimum of 150 hrs per month

so if rained off etc..  its recorded as zero and they either work a little longer the following days or come in saturday  for catch up work - in the unlikely event they don't hit 150 hrs we still pay that amount but they owe us the difference ( say they worked 140 ) and catch those hours up the next month

generally the guys work around 160 to 170 hours per month

Can i ask, is  this flexibility in their contracts?

and where do you get contracts from or drawn up?

looking to set someone on flexi and not sure how to put it all into a contract or where to find out

thanks

Hi Darren

Are your lads on a 'zero hour' contract but you guarantee 150 hrs monthly pay?

I don't employ but was having a conversation with a fellow windy about this subject only last week and he was finding it difficult to describe it. Some of his lads do have other jobs and only work part time but I struggled to see how this would work if they needed to be elsewhere.

Maybe you could throw some light on it?

Regards
Glenn

As the employer you decide what you want to put into the contract , providing it’s legal of course ,

No we don't believe in zero hour contracts

they have a 35 hour p/w contract  wages are basically split into 12 monthly payments ( bit like a salary )  in the months they do over 151 hours the extra ( basically overtime ) is paid the following month     ex.    jan.  employee 1 works 180 hrs he is paid on the 28th of Jan 151 hr 29 hours overtime will be paid on the 28th Feb  so Febs wages will be 151 hrs + 29 hrs again if they work more in Feb say 160 hrs 9 hrs will be paid on the 28th March - should we only be able to supply work hours of say 145 hours in march they get paid 151 hr + 3 hrs ( the missing 6 coming off the extra hours of the previous month

should there be no banked hours and the employee doesn't hit 151 hours we still pay the 151 hours and carry over the negative on the following month

i hope this makes sense !!!

a standard day is 7.5 hrs - this is for holidays and if sick ( not paid for ) is also deemed as 7.5 hrs this is recorded against their monthly total as a negative

we have tried other ways but this seems to work the best and smoothest

as for contract we don't have set hours like an office just because we have some early start contracts etc..
we have a wages spreadsheet to record hours etc this cost us £5 from PPH

for catch up the guys have an on call rota for Saturday work they have to be available 1 weekend in 4

still confused ? hopefully not

Good topic. I have previously worked under the banked hours and weekend rotas but not sure how you get away with not paying for sickness. I used to be on 42 hours a week and a sick day would be recorded as around 7.5 hours as they would take the paid break off.
Breaks is another stickeler, do you go with the european working time directive and what about smokers?

In 3 years of employing I've never lost a day. Keep working.
