Hose Reel Brass Elbows leaking
« on: December 08, 2012, 08:54:03 am »
Hi
The brass swivel elbows on my reels are starting to leak >:(
Can the seals inside be replaced or is it a case of throw away and get new.
Got them from Gardiners if that info helps.
Can't see a way to take them apart.

Mine has never leaked but somtimes the cylinder that you put elbow onto the elbow lossens of that more so when hose reel has been pulled over and elbow sometimes comes off .

PTFE mate I did mine after 4 months because of small amount of dripping. Mike

They can't be opened and taken apart - replace the whole unit is the only solution.

Ours has lasted over 5 years so we can't complain. Also purchased from Gardiners.

They can be taken apart, if you look inside the park the screws on the reel, there is a large Allen head there in screw that and it will come apart. There is an o-ring inside that goes, but im not sure what size it is, but if you can replace that then you will stop it leaking. When you assemble it back together, you will need to put some loc-tite on the threads and make sure that the cutout in the thread is in the right position or it will restrict the water flow.

Didn't know that - thought they were a 'factory sealed' unit. I looked at this one we put on our hose reel and thought at the time that it was a 'replace when broken' job.

Thanks Lee

If you do get it apart, then you will get an O Ring at your local motor factors.

TBH I didn't think ours would last as long as it has - we regularily replace o rings on our Hoselok adapters.

That's a good idea spruce, I will try the moter factors. Both of ours started leaking after roughly a year, I did take them apart but ended up buying new ones, but as it is only an o ring causing the problem, if that can be replaced it will be a really cheap fix, not that they are that expensive to buy, and if they last 5 years then you may as well put them out of their misery and bin them  ;D
