Brasher Hillmaster boots?
« on: July 17, 2012, 03:39:53 pm »
Anyone else wearing these for work?
I bought a pair on Sunday felt great in the shop. Went and walked in them for one mile and got a blister the size of a fifty pence piece on my heel. Had to pack in early today my feet hurt so much.
These are the worst items of footwear I've ever bought, slippery in the wet too. is there a secret to breaking them in?

I've got Brasher Supalite GTX shoes, fitted from day 1, never had a problem. Perhaps a bit slippy on certain surfaces, but comfort, lightness and waterproofness make more then up for it. Pretty sure that's what their footwear is all about, fitted from day one. I'd take them back.

Walking boots are slippy on wet concrete surfaces; they're good for hills; but not really for window cleaning.

salomon gtx3 3d boots  ;D

pricey but worth every single penny.
i have never had wet feet or any sign of uncomfortableness.

im a great believer in that if you are gonna spend 8 hrs a day in them , buy the best you can afford.

A couple of months ago i took a gamble on buying "stormlite" shoes (£9.99)  in Sports Direct and have been surprised at how well theyre bearing up to a beating - they have a very grippy sole and long yellow laces .

I also took a gamble a couple of months ago on some Karrimor boots
Without exception they are the worst bit of tat I have ever bought and what makes it worse-they are a british company
I have bought today on flea bay, a pair of my trusty berghaus explorers for £77(retail £120 ish)
I know, without even trying them on, that they will feel like kid gloves on my feet.I dont know why I was even tempted to try anything else tbh
(7 years infantry,so I know a good boot when I wear one!!)
Back to your boots Mark, try putting them on in  hot bath and then keep them in there for 10 - 15 mins. Then go for an hours walk, they will soon mould to your feet

Funny thing is, I've gone through four pairs of berghaus ridgemasters - perfect fit every time. They tend to split in the same place after six to eight months so I thought I'd try a 'proper' boot. Wish I hadn't  >:(

I have a two year old pair. The waterproof has now gone and the tread wears out quickly on concrete. As Tosh said, they are designed for walking paths really.

I sometimes wonder if the pure water makes them 'wear' more quickly
Have noticed that my berghaus work boots would normally last 4 - 5 years of regular dog + hill/trail walking, but the window cleaning makes that reduce to about 2(I think Dazmond has had the same experience)
But, it comes down to comfort at the end of the day-Give me berghaus over everything else

Just bought these and great so far. Wore them a few times last week, window cleaning, walking dog etc.

Pressure washed in them today and did a top job. Highly recommended, as with the seller too. First time I've bought from them but 10 out of 10: -

Now I just need to get some top quality goretex trousers................

2 years is pretty good. True my sole thread wears pretty quickly. But I'm pretty sure I'd struggle to find another pair as light as them. They weigh next to nothing.

Any waterproof lining will eventually give up, because of the constant movement. Mind you, regular polishing with waterproof (still breathable) wax will make the leather last a long time.

I use walking boots for both mountain / hill walking , and window cleaning
I have 4 pairs , 2 of which I wear for window cleaning ,  1 pair of berghaus boots that I bought for window cleaning , which were crap - very sloppy in wet , not water proof , and sole split on back of 1 boot , they are now only used to walk the dog,
Sounds like you did not get them fitted correctly , and are prob experiencing heel lift,
Good walking boots have to deal with wet grass , and wet rock , so to say they are no good on wet concrete ,Some what suprises me ,  I find it best to get a boot with Vibram soles , as these grip well in the wet , and are hard wearing.

I took my 2nd pair of salomon's back to Go-Outdoors yesterday.

First pair purchased in Jan 2011, lasted till October.

2nd pair from October till now, completely wrecked with holes in material and sole falling off.

I only purchased them (@ £75) because they came with a lifetime guarantee. Looks like I could well get my monies worth by the time I'm dead  ;D
