No. Better putting diesel in a petrol.

I was following a guy down the sliproad of Knutsford services on the M6 about 20 years ago. He'd put petrol in his diesel (hire car) and the silencer exploded just as he got to the motorway.

Thats what i heard - as petrol has more explosive tendencies. Dont quote me on this one but i often hear about people putting a litre of petrol in a tank of diesel to keep it thin and give it a little extra kick...

In days gone by (the winters of the1970's) we used to top up a nearly full tank of diesel with a gallon of four star. No anti-waxing agents in diesel back then and it would set if it was cold enough. Worked well. Petrol in an old diesel isn't a major problem. No sensors, cat or computers. Kill a new one though.

They put petrol in diesel in Scandinavia to help stop diesel freezing, at the right proportions of course, but not good the other way round. I put about 5 litres of petrol in my diesel van about 3 months ago, It was pretty empty at the time, just filled it up to the top with diesel, so was running at about 8% petrol to 92% diesel, no problems at all.

my uncle was trying to save fuel by switching off his engine on a long downward hill and switch back on again at the bottom. what he didnt know was the unburnt fuel was pumping into his exhaust and when he switched back on BANG he blew his exhaust apart  ;D

same for me, came back from holiday in cornwall last year and after 2 weeks of putting petrol into motor did the same in van first day back! Not masses of petrol though and after calling mate at garage he said fill to top with diesel and keep topped up for the week. Ran with no probs.

And injectors.

I put £20 petrol in my van last month, i called aa out and they said as long as i hadnt started the engine i could fill the rest of the tank up with diesal and get away with it as diesal is heavier. Thankfully all ok.

I did it a week after i got my new van.gave me the right ump.was told by the guy that came you can get away with 5% of the tank being petrol.id put about £20 in which was to much so had to drain it.
Every time i fill up now i double check and i bet you will now 2
