Symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome
« on: April 01, 2011, 05:58:11 pm »
When I have a hard week of WC I find my right wrist starts to hurt quite badly. It's on top of the wrist at the base of the thumb. I'm right handed and hold my pole ( ;) ) with my right hand lower than my left in the main. I don't clasp the butt end of the pole, but hold the pole itself, meaning the wrist is bent. On the attached picture imagine the guy is holding a wfp pole, but that the wrist is bent up more, as if he was holding the wrench almost vertically.

I know I need to hold the pole differently, by cupping the butt end perhaps.

Does anyone else suffer from this (i've been trading 2 years and had no problems before becoming  a WC).

Does it sound like CPS?

Can anyone recommend a wrist support?

Cheers all

I've had it for years, both wrists but my right is the worst.

Do you get pains in your lower arm &/or wrist in bed at night?

Does your hand go numb?

Nope, it's just in the right wrist. No numbness or trouble at night, save from the pain i've described. I guess I have that to look forward to...!

I don't think it's CTS then.

Poling is hard on the body IMO. I got tennis elbow as a direct result of WFP, it lasted 12 months too & still niggles me even now on a hard day. My CTS is also made worse by WFP.

BTW, I hold my wfp exactly the same as you!

Yep! I can't even hold a newspaper without my hands going numb! I was lined up for the OP but bottled it in the end. Couldn't get an accurate enough idea of recovery period & the people I knew who'd had it all had mixed results from cured to even worse! ::)

I have experienced this numbness for some time and now I have a chiropractor do his thing at the end of my 8 weekly cycle...this I find helps alot.

My Chiropractor also mentioned have a good warm-up and warm down in the day, also have a nice hot shower or bath after work.

OK LAW ALERT:

I am lucky enough to live in The Netherlands and as such I am able to medicate using cannabis without much issue...I use a vaporisor (so no tobacco) at night ...this I find enables me to relax into a deep sleep. The combination of the 2 have worked for me.

I am not suggesting anyone break their countries law but this is my solution.
The more I know the less I know I know ...

OH yeh, hands wrists elbows and shoulders.

I have episodes of severe pain in all those joints and more.

I have got to the point where I need to be dosed up on anti inflamatory tabs and pain killers just so I can get through the week.

I am now starting to look at employing full time staff so that I can carry on and make a living.

For the most part I have been happy to work for myself/by myself, but I think that I need to make a change before the onset of next winter.

ouch
if it is dirty it is fair game

Too late - you should have made the change at least two years ago.
