In an effort to reduce the workload of Guild admin over the winter holidays, we're again allowing members to Pre-register early this year.
It also mean's you'll get your 2010 member pack well in advance of the new year.
http://www.mgwc.org/index-5-2010.html
;D ;D
First come first listed,.. the earlier you register, the higher up the website member listings you will be.
-
send me a paypal request ;) I will pay double for the top spot ;D
I may even put your sticker on my new office wall of fame..
-
As your membership runs from Jan to Dec, Does that mean a new member would get up to two months free membership if they join now?
-
If we dont register this year but did last year are we no longer a member ?
-
sounds good any feedback for joining mates how much does this cost
-
Nathanael Jones can I join now you acknowledge I’m a window cleaner ;)
LOL,... and become one of the elite,.. are you sure you can handle it?!
-

The new member listings won't go live on the website till Jan 1st,.. but you'd get the member pack early so you could have stickers on your van etc.

£20 per annum or part therof. Its a non-profit organisation,.. any extra funds at the end of the year are either given back to the members by way of sponsoring competition prizes or go toward advertising to raise public awareness of the Guuld
If we dont register this year but did last year are we no longer a member ?
Membership runs till the next December 31st after the date you join.
Current members will also have to re-submit all their details before Dec 31st to continue their membership uninterrupted.
-
that sounds like a jolly good deal. count me in ;D ;D ;D
-
Nat, not that I have a problem saying my age,
but why are you asking for peoples D.O.B ??
-
tell me more about the guild Nat......i need some more information about it before i decide to join.
and of course i am the sales and marketing guy for the guild so i need to be up to speed on what it does.
cheers nat 8)
-
Nat, not that I have a problem saying my age,
but why are you asking for peoples D.O.B ??
This is a legal thing,.. its a detail about you that would be very hard for us or anyone else to find out without you volunteering the information,.. so its part of the disclaimer to prove that you actually filled out the form and we're not just signing ppl up without their knowledge to falsely boost the membership numbers.
But its ok Ian,.. I'll keep telling ppl you're 21 (again) this year. ;)
-
You could lie about your age, I told them my sex was 'unknown' in the original form I completed and no-one questioned that ;D
-
What advantage is there in being higher up the list? None surely.
-
I'm going to join. I think Nath' & the others have done a very good thing here- & all for nothing!!
It's worth more than the joining fee just for the stickers & logos for letter heads/quotes & advertising.
Well done the Guild & keep up the good work. ;)
-

if some wants a window cleaner and the find you first for their area ::)
-
People dont go to the guild website to find a window cleaner do they?
No course they dont, thats ridiculous.
-
i think the guild really needs you Matt..please join...please :)
;D ;D
just show us the money 1st before we let you in 8).
just kidding. ::)
-
Nat said that last year, about letting me in.
I have found that an odd thing to say to be honest, I am a member but dont generally bother using the forum, I only joined to be able to legitimately put the logo on my website and the stickers on the van are funky I guess, but why do the founding members have that attitude, 'Oh, we might let you in if we like you'? Its only a poxy club.
I suppose I'll be banned now.
-
thats terrible!!!
"poxy club"
Lame, maybe
But, poxy?
thats out of order :D :D ;D

lame is nearly accurate actually.....let me ellaborate.
lame COULD mean that you cant walk or run or are having difficulty in finding your feet.....the guild are not yet in the position of the fed, and in that sense they could be called lame in comparison, however the fed had to start somewhere and i guess they could have been called a lame or poxy club at the outset and that also would be true....but now look at the fed, wouldnt call them lame or poxy would you.....and so it will be with the guild, give it a bit more time and it will be running, nay sprinting past the fed in terms of numbers....it might take a while yes, but it will at sometime in the future be bigger than the fed. (i hear the laffs :D) but he who laughs last laughs longest.....hee hee hee hee hee hee etc.
watch this space in a few years, well not this space the guild space, erm the guild website. www.mgwc.org
hey this sales and marketing thing is a piece of cake :)

Very much a possibility.

What you do in your own time is nothing to do with the Guild. ;)
People dont go to the guild website to find a window cleaner do they?
No course they dont, thats ridiculous.
Some members find their Guild listing actually ranks higher in Google that their own website. Your site is well optimised Matt, so this isn't the case for you,.. but I just Googled "Matthew Bateman window cleaning" and your Guild listing was on page 1 of Google! :)
The Guild website gets a lot of traffic,.. some percentage of that has to be potential customers looking for a cleaner. :)
why do the founding members have that attitude, 'Oh, we might let you in if we like you'?
Honestly,.. we're just messing/having a laugh, no offence was ever intended.
The Guild is open to all window cleaners who meet the minimum requirements (A license if you're in Scotland and Public liability insurance for every country where its available) and who agree to the code of conduct. Only a serious complaint/breach of the code of conduct etc etc would make us turn down an application for membership.
-
Ok Nat, in all honesty it seemed an odd thing to be said 2 years on the trot, I get easily paranoid you know ;D
I just googled Matthew Bateman Window Cleaner (http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Matthew+Bateman+window+cleaning&sourceid=navclient-ff&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1B3GGGL_enGB278GB278") Im nearly famous ;)
-
I just googled myself,.. my facebook page beats my websites in the rankings!! How did that happen!! :o ::)
-
Facebooks page rank. Facebook has a PR of 9.
Dont forget to log out of google prior to doing a search also.
Here I just googled you and avondhu came up first.
-
Right,.. I'm off to sort through the applications that came in this morning,...
A few ppl filled in the 2009 form, which will give you membership immediately but you'll need to renew in 2 months! I'll e-mail you guys with the link to the 2010 page and give you the option of pre-registering instead, save paying twice!
-

The 2010 member pack has been vastly improved. You now get 3 decals, a fancy member cert, a CD with all the logo's & stationary pack on, and even a welcome letter with my autograph (soon to be very valuable I'm sure!).

-
We were going to, but Scrimmy is on a diet! ;)
-
i can still send in the empty wrappers if thats any help guys ;D

as a community quite positive (even Scrimmy, if he has a full nights sleep).
Also have had a few people comment of the fact I am a member of the guild, they aren't sure what it means, but you put a shield on your paperwork people are impressed.
And £20 for a year advertising, can't be bad ;)

in what countries does the guild have members??
At the moment the majority of members are in the UK and Ireland, but we also have a few members in the USA, Canada, Spain, and even 1 member in Australia!
-
so it is defo growing in stature. nice :)
-
this is the current target email (advert on gumtree etc) we are using to bring in more members (just started using it last week), however we think its too long.....there is a wee competition on the guild forum to come up with a shorter and more concise message which we hope the recipients will at least read (the winner gets a free Thermoshine/Aquashine sticker).....you guys on here are welcome to have a stab at it also. ;)

Anyone could put a logo/sheild on paperwork, it doesnt mean anything im sorry as you said "they aren't sure what it means" so whats the point! Like me putting a turbo badge on my car but its only a 1.1 fiesta.
-
can i ask what benefits the guild has to its members?
i'm currently a member of contractor plus and have put all my guys through the city and guilds NVQ level 2. both these have been good for business and the city and guilds has given them all a basic understanding of health and safety, methods etc.
The contractor plus scheme has been very in depth of our policy's and procedures.
I'm looking at joining the fed so i was wondering what the guild is to its members? why should my company join it??

No point saying that though is there? You should be selling it to me, why i should be joining, not telling me not to join.
You tell me what having this badge on my paper work will do for my business.
-
no you had your chance

Lol ok, and for that reason, im out.

The Guild doesn't have nearly the same setup & resources as the FED, and as such can't offer the same benefits that larger companies would appreciate more. At the moment our member benefits are aimed mostly at the average Joe sole trader window cleaner. As the Guild grows we are adding more and more benefits, but all good things take time!
One of our biggest aims at the moment is to get a members deal/discount on safety training. Eg. ladder safety, work at height courses etc.
Anyone could put a logo/sheild on paperwork, it doesnt mean anything im sorry as you said "they aren't sure what it means" so whats the point! Like me putting a turbo badge on my car but its only a 1.1 fiesta.
That is true. One of our aims for 2010 is to raise public awareness of the Guild and the benefits of employing Licensed (In Scotland) and insured professionals to work on their property. It's no good if only window cleaners know what the Guild is! It again is a process that will take a lot of time,.. how many members of the public are aware of the FED and what they stand for, and they've been around for ages.
I believe that the badge alone even without a full understanding of what it means, shows your customer (Or potential customer) that you are someone who takes his business seriously enough to join an association,.. it instantly sets you apart from your competition.

extremely good answer Nat.
i think the large nationals with high staff numbers like Mitie*Greig Avinou* and OCS* and duncan bannatynes* new window cleaning company and other large window cleaning companies across the globe would never come on board no matter how you try to sell the guild to them (*i am sending them all the above email ;)) however the vast majority of the window cleaners in the world are either a one man band or a small outfit with one or two guys working for them (or lassies).
they are the ones who dont really see the benefit of joining the likes of the fed or their local equivilent in the part of the world they live, as the fees to join these kind of associations are for the most part prohibitive and they simply cannot afford to join.
the difference with the guild is plain to see...it is not a trade organisation and as such does not have highly paid directors or shareholders to satisfy (no-one gets paid at all in fact) as it is simply a community based peer group.
the difference is that the guild is a GLOBAL community based peer group...which means that we intend to give as many window cleaners ACROSS the globe the chance to be part of the ONLY global community for fellow window cleaners.
i hope that speaks for itself, and in my humble opinion the fee that we all pay (including us in the admin) is very reasonable for what we get in return.
-
Good post Nathanael, I think that the strength of the Guild is by serving the sole trader. Hope you & the Guild keep your focus there and go from strength to strength. ;)
thanks ewan....it always helps when we get that kind of feedback, as it spurs us on ;)
-
ok so if the guild is not offering anything in the way of support what can you expect from joining? or is it just a blue peter badge type thing ??? couldn't i just use the clean it up logo and say that i'm part of that community? what is the difference between being a member on here to being part of the guild?

ok, so we will just disband the guild then ;D
and its all down to you >:(
8)
aye right.
but you are right, you do need to understand the benefits of being part of the guild.
apart from the stuff that is in the email (see above) let me run these benefits by you and see how they sit.
1. the low fee (affordable even to the likes of me)
2. the 3 complimentary decals.
3. the nice shiny new certificate.
4. the listing of your company details on the guild website.
5. the support (quite important ;))
6. the knowledge that you have joined at least one community group or association and the benefits of telling your customers that you are at least bothering to present a professional image.
7. you can enter the guild competitions and win some pretty expensive wfp or trad gear.
8. you can say you know scrimmy and Nat.
ok forget the last one, but the benefits far outweigh just having a blue peter type badge or cloning the CIU logo and using that. ;) ( not sure you would be allowed, well not for twenty quid anyway 8))
-
I just seached mine "chris morris window cleaner" and Dean Taberner pdf guild certificate comes up ???

6. the knowledge that you have joined at least one community group or association and the benefits of telling your customers that you are at least bothering to present a professional image.
7. you can enter the guild competitions and win some pretty expensive wfp or trad gear.
8. you can say you know scrimmy and Nat.
ok forget the last one, but the benefits far outweigh just having a blue peter type badge or cloning the CIU logo and using that. ;) ( not sure you would be allowed, well not for twenty quid anyway 8))
i was just using CIU as an example as it is an online community which got reffered to. I guess what i was looking for in the reply is to know how the guild will make a difference to our industry? after all that's what associations are there for. to be a voice for its people and to try and change things for the better within its industry. I think the guild isn't right for me but good luck in your conquest! ;)
-
thats what we are aiming for too...to be able to make a difference within the industry....but to make a serious difference we need to have serious backing and funding, and thats the stage we are aiming for with the numbers drive we have at the moment.
as the guild is a community based peer group at the moment i reckon the members (including me) are getting extremely good value for money as it stands.
however, how much value would someone like yourself place on the guild if it where to achieve the remits you outlined?
actually, can you tell us what it is YOU (steve) want to see changing within the industry?...and what role do you expect the guild to have in those changes?
thanks steve ;)

the licensing of federations for a start ;D

i would like to see window cleaning as a profession and to have minimum levels of qualifications before any single person can tout for business or even clean a pane of glass. i would like to see guys charging sensible prices and not feeling that worthless they need to charge peanuts! i would like to drive out the bad reputation window cleaners have and replace it with a respected business outlook on our industry. I would like to employ melinda messenger and use her to soap up my windows with her breasts topless......i guess we can't have it all ;D
-
So we are window cleaners and need silly bits of paper with a fancy stamp on it to prove we are good at our job ::)

What would you suggest Steve?

ok i will look into it 8)

No offence to the guild but it doesnt prove anything regarding experience and if your health and safety efficient. Like Steve said before, Blue Peter, buying a badge and not earning it.

They did it to electrics so please dont say it cant happen..

Big big difference there trying to compare other trades like elecrticians it seems like you are getting desperate to prove these silly bits of paper work
-
To be fair, an electrician, gas person etc, they are there to provide us a service where things CANNOT go wrong, the house isnt going to burn down if we clean a window wrong. lol
-
It just seems kinda odd trying to take a peanut seriously. Try as I might I just dont seem able to do that :-\

i never said you wouldn't. bits of paper that MEAN something show your capabilites and understanding on how to work with guidelines. I'll give you an example: I went onto the NVQ level 2 course. at first i thought. come on, this sounds like pony.
after 2-3 sessions with andy willis and a few other boys i realized i have heaps to learn, i actually felt silly sometimes.
What has that made me do. Go away and make sure i make myself, my employees and my company as efficient as it can be in all areas. I've realized there is some seriously big players out there that would only laugh at someone like me.
I have built up a successful business in 4 years this february. We should turn over in excess of 190k next year at the rate of growth we have been having so in the short time i've been going i'm as proud as punch. but by going on what i thought sounded a bit of a silly course has made me realize how little i really know about our industry.
Thats what i mean by silly bits of paper ;)
-
Good point Steve..
-
And to reiterate Steve, the guild stamp (no offence) hasnt been earned, its been bought. Pay £20 and your in?
-
So we have to prove to some guys watching us working to say if we are good enough to do our job and then give us a silly bit of paper and say there you go son now off you go and thanks for the money

Boogie, you dont have to do anything mate.
Take it or leave it.
Why bother wasting your time on this thread, its obviously not for you. You're quite obviously one of the bigger fish in the ocean in addition to being one of the better established, successful and professional ones at that, that guild members will strive to emulate.

you seem to enjoy arguing with yourself ;) yes granted. i don't really need to know anything further myself. I make a good enough living. If i want to stand still i could do, but i don't. I've said what i'd like to change, will it happen? probably not. But a course or association that means something will only improve yourself and your business. It wouldn't do any harm would it?

ok lets draw a line under this thread...i like a good old debate myself...half of that time i spend arguing with myself the other half just agrees to be agreeable...but thats missing the point....i have lost the point...what were we talking about?.
ah yes, the guild....whether to join or not.....let me think this one through..........got it......here is my advice.
join if you want to.
dont join if you dont want to.
simples 8)

join if you want to.
...what benefits does joining the guild have?
;D 8) :P

I go tthe stickers I wanted ;D
Ian
I thought I had stopped collecting them, but guess I havent :(
-
funny you should mention trade shows ewan......we were talking about that just last week. ;)
watch this space 8)
-
i think once the numbers do start to be a sizeable percentage of window cleaning population and the sub fees are substantial then the mgwc will be able to start easily doing what fed does but maybe better :)
-
thats the plan., dunno about giving away free mars bars though....how about the empty wrappers.....i will waddle over and will be hand them out.

i would like to see window cleaning as a profession and to have minimum levels of qualifications before any single person can tout for business or even clean a pane of glass. i would like to see guys charging sensible prices and not feeling that worthless they need to charge peanuts! i would like to drive out the bad reputation window cleaners have and replace it with a respected business outlook on our industry.
I couldn't agree with your more!
As for minimum qualifications, the Guild doesn't require anything other than proof of insurance at the moment, but we do strongly encourage training. I would eventually like to see "Ladder safety" and "Work at Height" training taken up by the majority of our members and NVQ too where possible,.. and it is high on our priority list to wrangle a discount for members! The larger the membership, the better chance of getting a discount, so it may take time (We have 130 members at the moment).
By making the Guild accessible to the average guy or even the "Newbie" window cleaners we aim to provide the support they need from the very outset by helping them to price work right, work safely from the start, and provide a more professional image to the general public right from day one.
Exaclty, if you have been on a course and earned this "bit of paper" then im up for it. Any tom dick and harry could join the guild and obtain this guild sticker and be useless and non trust worthy people.
The Guild logos/stickers show that at the very least you are insured. Trustworthy is something very hard to quantify, unless you know of a test? Perhaps you are suggesting that all our members should be CRB checked? Should the majority of members agree with that, then after a show of hands and a discussion on how to implement the scheme, it will be introduced. Such a major change may have to wait till 2011 registrations to come into effect tho!
The Guild is still in its infancy,.. we're figuring out what benefits our members want, and what we can afford with just a £20 per annum member fee. What I can promise is that we're working hard to constantly improve all aspects of the Guild, and we appreciate the help and input we get from our members.

Crb is location based, so would really be a waste of time. I have crb check yet I am now being vosa and crb checked on new contract....
Problem is with these checks they are fine up till they are processed then they are out of date.
Ian
p.s crb is 3 times the guild membership fee at least ;)
unless you are plannjing to up the fee to somewhere like the fed after we have built it for you. :-\ but could see that being clever business on your part Nat ;)
-
What do you mean by CRB being location based?
as in when it is done it is out of date a min after, so one company based say cambridge centre crb you, within an hour int is out of date, meaning you cant go to next place say cambridge south and say I have a crb as it means yes you did earlier but not present
-
Independent safeguarding authority, is the answer you may be looking for windowwhasher
Check it out mate ;)
your spelling is worse than mine spewan
-
Can't help but think that crb's are just another money spinner somehow. :(

There are no plans to increase the membership fees,... unless the members vote to introduce something like this which would necessitate it. The Guild is guided by its members with all major decisions being put to the vote.
The CRB check idea is something I plucked out of the air after Sensai mentioned proving members are "Trustworthy",... but perhaps I should have asked what other organisations like the Fed do to prove their members can be trusted? Is it possible?!
-
Not got the house yet! My mrs has been helping out at the school for years - she is also involved in security work with her job. The school suddenly realised she had no crb check so she was instantly banned from the shool trips etc untill the check was done.
The fact that they are non-transferrable is a joke. Obviously thought up by some jobsworth as a way of boosting revenue to whoever charges for it.
Reading through this thread has made me angry that we live in such a crap society that thinks bits of paper are the way forward. ???
As for NVQ's - don't start me on that but having witnessed someone pass one who could barely read or write made me realise what a load of toss his piece of paper was. ::) (and that was far more advanced than any window cleaning certificate)
-
A piece of paper could quite easily be meaningless but how are you going to prove something (which has value/worth and meaning) to someone without a piece of paper, scribe your qualifications on a rock?
-
Nat I have registered mate, just have to email my insurance details, do you need the whole PDF that we have?
Matt
-
How many customers are interested in what associations anyone belongs too?
If I want a tradesman I ask around for a recommendation, I couldn't care less if he has any qualifications or belongs to a club. I'll take others words that he has done a quality job at a good price.
As far as window cleaning goes if a commercial customer wants proof of insurance then give him a photocopy. It's only cleaning windows - do a bad job and they will simply sack you. We are hardly craftsmen anyway let's be honest.

So so true, good old common sense, we clean bloody windows for hells sake, no one cares or even thinks are we quallified to wash their glass. Just show up now and again and clean the windows please..... ::)

They show professionalism, SAC shows patential customers that registered tradesmen know how to operate safely whilst on their premises.

It's £20 for 1 year advertising on a site that places highly on search engines.
is that not enough reason?

What if they ask about what health and safety certificates you have?
And if they ask you what Health and Safety courses you've been on, what would you say?
Will you just tell them, its all common sense and you don't need Health and Safety certificates? lol
-
I would say p off too much hastle for the small amount of money that commercial work pays....its that simple. Residential all the way. No one needs to know, no one wants to know, you fill your book with hundreds of well priced residential jobs and give all the brain nippin stuff to the "real experts"
Away to my bed now, nite all ::)
-
Ok mate
thats why all the big companies in uk clean domestic??
nope commercial, until you try it you wont understand the difference in money, with domestic to commerical theres no comparison easier to make money all day long
but without the paperwork etc you cant so maybe you will have to keep fiddling the books with them 3 bed semis :)
-
Sean, after more than 21 years doing commercial jobs I have come to the conclusion that organisations such as the guild or similar are indeed good for your buisness if that is where you want to work and earn your crust. I just think that if you really want to make very good stress free money cleaning windows...in my experience only mind.....well I just know where to make it more and for less. Each to their own my man, thats all I am saying. :-*

i disagree that there is more money in commercial.....true you may get the odd job that pays more but in my experience the commercial jobs i quote for want something for nothing, and the really big contracts seem to go to the nationals like mitie or ocs etc where the actual guy cleaning the window gets 6 quid per hour....i cant compete with that, so the best policy is to go for as many good paying commercial jobs as you can find, but always make sure you have at least an equal amount of domestic work to pay the bills when you lose that all important commercial job that was paying for your van each month, which happens...a lot.

FTP does it mean just because a guy can barely read or write make you any better than him doing a manual job ?? maybe he can not read or write but he clearly has a good understanding how to move his business forward, this maybe something you really should think about before making insulting comments.
And just because this said person can barely read or write does not in anyway mean the nvq is a load of toss.
Feel better now :-X

Nat do you think there will be a good take up of guild membership?
-
How many members do you have
-
Not got the house yet!

I don't think you understood the post. The NVQ I witnessed was in the print trade. A trade where I had to do a seven year apprenticeship no less! The NVQ system was brought in to replace apprenticeships. This enabled numpties like the guy I mentioned to pass an NVQ simply because he got someone else to fill it out for him (the training officer). Once they had the first guy through all the other trainees throughout the years simply copied all the coursework - just changing the name on the file.
One guy didn't even bother to copy the work but handed last years file in with his name on top and surprise surprise even managed to get better marks.
Maybe you can explain to me why a poorly educated person should be entitled to earn the same money and be called a craftsman when he clearly wasn't up to the job? Why do you send your kids to school?
An NVQ that can be completed in a matter of days is hardly an achievment is it?

Last year 70% of current members pre-registered, and by the end of Jan member figures had surpassed the previous years maximum. At the moment we have 132 members and I've lost count of how many have pre-registered already,.. so 2010 is looking good for the Guild!

Ok you want me to explain why a poorly educated person should be entitled to earn the same:
ok here goes maybe boring for other readers and I have to say sorry for that: This is about me by the way I am what you would class as poorly educated though it is not really my fault as I was eger to learn. I was a kid I was ill i had cancer i missed quite a bit of school, back then not was it out of school sat doing errm sod all bored out of my brians, I then go back to school I am put in top set of maths becxause I was very good with numbers, I then move school, I got down graded from top set because I was not very good at english spelling and grammer (I had not been at school d'oh, and these so called clever people are educated aswell ::))
so me at school became boring maths was far to easy I did a l;essons work within mins of class starting and got bored, bored kids get in trouble because they are bored! so I then got in more trouble for speaking up for myself and asking to go up to a class so I could learn something (these educated people did not like to be told by someone clearly brighter than them that they was learning nothing because they had put me in a class where I already new all the answers because I had already learnt the stuff being in a top set of maths is not rocket science................ ::)
Anyway that was maths (guess you can see that annoys me, to english i WAS SO FAR BEHIND i JUST DIDNT HAVE A CLUE WHAT TO DO i ASKED FOR HELP, I got told off for disrupting the lesson and sent out, all because I was ill had to take time of through no fault of my own. And no I get punished for it and my education suffers because of it, unfair I thought. I ecel in woodwork and so much wanted to be a boat builder I didnt need english that much, maths I did but I was good at this so instead of being bored I learnt about boats wood and making things, Then I get my arm caught in a metal centre Lathe making an ancor for my boat, this kept me off of school for near on a year, my arm was mangelled (wrapped around a metal pole 4 times, cracking I thought, sorry have to laugh) when I went back to school I was even futher was behind on english, and at this point I told myself school is not for me, this was in no way my fault, and why should this hold me back. TBH I want to learn english now on my terms but be spoken to with respect that teachers back then clearly did not have.
I should be entitled to earn more for the crap schooling I got, not less ;D
I do earn more than my teachers, I did that at 20 years old, and they are so called educated ::)
I have nvq's in cooking, management, plumbing, also city and guilds in plumbing and NVQ in WINDOW CLEANING and I am proud to say it, :P jealousy is an ugly thing ;D
Ian
Sorry for the part life story just tends to annoy me about school..and education
-
A lot, maybe most well educated people have little or no common sense!
Why shouldn't an uneducated person be able to earn more than and educated one?
Earnings are usually down to hard work! not if someone has a degree or not.
Matt

I would like an indepth answer to that please!
-
What’s your point windowwasher?
I would answer you Ewan, but you clearly want to antagonise me by calling me window washer (sorry if I spelt that word wrong, I is uneducated!
-
You agree with a statement/question but don’t know why ;D
I know why, but nice try Ewan ::)

school isn't for everyone, it's what you do with what you have

I disagree with the statement that an educated person should earn more than an uneducated person.
earnings are down to how hard you work, I know window cleaners that earn a damn sight more than an electrician!

Yep, everyone who pre-registers will get their member pack sent out in a week or 10 days from now. I'm just waiting for the delivery of the 2010 decals (Should arrive with me on Friday) from the printer, and then I just have to pop them in the envelopes with the certs etc and drag myself to the post office! :)

What you have posted here MB window cleaning is a different statement, to what windowwashers highlighted.
You are playing with words again Ewan:
this is what I highlighted:
Why shouldn't an uneducated person be able to earn more than and educated one?
-
Ian, you've twisted my post a little, I'm not saying a poorly educated business person should earn less than anyone else should they work hard enough.
All I said was why should someone who can't even complete their own nvq themselves be entitled to the same wages and stature as someone who has served their time, kept their head down learnt their trade and studied hard for their qualifications being employed in the same job. ie Printing.
I studied hard at school and got the qualifications to enter the print trade and then studied for a further seven years. Along comes the numpty, through the back door, bish bosh someone writes his nvq for him which he passes (distinction) and he's on the same money and level as me in less than two years. See the unfairness in it yet?
See why I have absolutely no faith in nvq's or poncy bits of paper?

Do the folks that are already registered as guild members think membership has done their business any harm?
