I have finally taken the plunge, I will be ordering the 21ft SLX pole from Alex next week, when they are back in stock.
Are they really as good as everyone states on here?
Matt

I am thinking of ordering this pole also, Sorry to hijak, but how far up would 21 foot do? would it cover loft conv windows?

It states it has a reach of 27ft so I would of thought it would reach sky lights etc.
I have a 24ft extel pole with a 27ft-28ft reach and that reaches second floor windows etc.

Happy days are here, my Superlite dual trim mono brush has just turned up ;D ;D
Tried it out on the windows at home, I can't believe how light the brush head is.
I currently have it attached to a G-Extel pole and there wasn't much bow at all.
Matt
-
Its definately the best pole ive ever had. the brush head is fantastic-very fast on the glass.
the only downside is the clamps-they are rubbish. mind you, have just received the new updated clamps so i hope they will be better. the old ones just fell apart.
it also needs cleaning every day at least, the sections get very clogged up with grit very easily. also i keep pulling the sections out when extending the pole.
despite thee minor faults, i have just finished a week of awkward window on my commercial work and it was a breeze. normally i am dead after lunchtime but i felt great allday, no aching shoulders :)
i just wish i got a longer pole-only hav 21ft. will be getting the next size up as soon as i can.

Not really, but then again it’s not a very detailed review.
I wrote a very honest & indepth review titled "facelift Vs slx" While you were still a twinkle in your father's eye! Do a search & you may find it. One day you may be fortunate enough to be graced with my knlowlage, untill then, button it! ;)

i used my 30ft sl-x for the first time today, i must say ,what a joy to work with, and virtualy no flex at all,
superb pole, well done alex,
-
Is this it macmac? ;D
Having them both, here is my oppinion & why-
The slx falls between two sizes of facelift poles. Slx is an actual 25ft in extended length, facelift 24ft (actual 21ft) & facelift 30ft (actual 27ft) & there is a big difference in useability between these two f/l poles lengths.
Clamps- f/l clamps are superb & very easy to use BUT the downside to them is that each clamp adds approx 100mm to the closed length of the pole. The slx clamps are also superb once fine tuned (very easy process with an allen key) but do require more getting used to. However, the slx clamps add very little to the closed length of the pole & i would suggest are stronger than the facelift clamps although my f/l clamps have never failed in approx 20 months of very hard use & abuse.
Slx Vs 21ft facelift=
Weight wise there is not much in it, nothing worth considering. Rigidity, again, nothing much in it but i feel the slx is a tad more rigid in use.
Useability- both very useable poles but the slx wins on it's shorter closed length & extra 4 feet in extended length. Also the slx, for me anyway, with a plastic angle neck + swivel can do every bottom window on my round where as the f/l is a tad too long for some but can do the majority.
Slx Vs 27ft facelift=
Weight wise there is now a very noticeable difference, the slx is much lighter. Rigidity, the slx is also quite a lot more rigid now.
Useability- Here the slx wins hands down, the closed f/l is far too long for bottom windows & is not IMO an all day pole. The slx still has the same closed length but the f/l is two feet longer- extended. There is a very big difference in useability between these two poles with the slx blowing the f/l into the weeds!
The extra (actual) two feet that the f/l has, no where near out-weighs all the extra benefits of the slx.
Summary & considerations-
Both superb poles, top quality, both very well built & robust, but for me the slx wins hands down. The slx is a pole of actual 25ft which is a superb, very useable length. It's very well balanced, has a very short closed length, even when fully closed it balances perfectly for bottom windows & IS useable all day long from ground floor up to 29 ish feet! Add to that, it's very light, rigid & cheaper than the facelift! On the side of the facelift though is the ability to go higher by just adding extra sections, although i would imagine gardiners are probably developing extra sections for the slx?
Also i don't look after my poles, i throw them about & hardly ever clean them, they are my workhorse. I've had the facelift for approx 20 months & the slx since it's release. Both have stood up so far to daily hard use & abuse although i only use the facelift now for anything above 30ft (as mine is the 44ft carbon). I stated that the slx is cheaper than the facelift BUT i havent recently checked facelift's prices, so i'm assuming they havent reduced their prices.
This is my considered, honest oppinion. hope it helps.
Tony
That's the one dude. Have I surpassed all your expectations or you gonna disect it & shoot me down in a blaze of cyber glory? ;D

superb pole, well done alex,
wait till you get a little bit of grit in the pole it then becomes a pain in the arse pole to use
paul
-
No macmac there’s no need to dissect your review. I’m sure on the whole it’s a reasonable if limited review, the only thing that does stand out now, is from the date when you posted this is I do think Facelift lift have far superior quality and by a huge margin, carbon fibre Facelift poles will probably work out to be the cheaper pole over time if you have to keep replacing the Gardiner’s pole.
I'm still using my slx daily, it's not just price to be considered though, usability!!!!!
-
Usability you mention in your review seems more concerned with the closed length and ease of use for doing ground floor work.
You could do what NWH (I think) mentioned and cut a few inches of a facelift, shortening the closed length and reducing the weight.
Which would be the better pole then?
The slx, as you still can't get away from 4" clamp surface of the facelift, you'd have more, shorter sections!
-
Hey, what a brilliant idea! Pay a fortune for a carbon Facelift, hacksaw a load off and throw the bits away! Now that does make good buisiness sense!
-
Maybe pay for another section and a clamp to make a shorter pole. Ewan you are cracking up boy!
-
Very good point, the only way to overcome that would be to have one extra section. To make up the difference in clamp size and also giving you extra reach or longer pole.
Or just have the pole a few inches longer when closed (the difference in clamp size only) but with the same amount of sections.
Would either of these be a better pole?
They are both good poles but who's gonna spend £7/800 & then take a saw to it?
-

Very true ftp. He does have a point, eh Ewan? ;)

Also, wouldn't that make the facelift "not fit for purpose"? You might get peed off with a bit of grit in the pole but spend £700 & then have to chop it down with a saw!!!
-
Facelift is a fine pole I understand but to compete with the SLX it has to be the same collapsed length, the same extended length, the same weight and rigidity and be cheaper on price. As far as I can tell it doesn't beat the SLX on any of those points.
Ewan, google the Gardiners website and have a look at their S-MAX range - look at the extended lengths and collapsed lengths then google something else that compares favourably with it.
I know you are keen to attack Gardiners for some reason but why are they so popular on here? It's because at the moment there are no better products available, they have taken the lead with their pole designs.
-
I don't know I only own the one make. You would need to ask Pingu and Macmac as they own both.
Errrrr so why didn't you buy a Facelift then Ewan ???
-
There’s good and bad points about both these poles ftp, but if people keep posting only the good points and play down the bad points. It’s never going to be an accurate view or review of these poles.
I tried to mention these poles are overpriced and got it in the neck from the people who buys these poles and not really from the manufacturers! Who you would have expected to respond in the same way as the customers did in defending there products prices.
Wfp system manufacturers have a broad range of prices. Ionic, pure Freedom for example. I just think the same applies to all equipment.
You're right, in a sense & that's what's happening. Gardiners have brought to market a better pole for less money! Maybe facelift will improve theirs & reduce it's price to compete. All the others will be watching & also trying to compete.
But, at the mo', in this market as it stands, this is the price for these products, we have to accept that.

till someone new comes along with a better idea I guess. thinking back of the scaffold poles that are tucker to what we use now is great, now if tucker came up with a pole like they have now but smaller, lighter and erm shorter sections but lasted as long, anyone with half a brain would buy one, sadly this is not the case, for now Alex is the cat with the cream and fair play to the guy and he keeps trying for better. so all good
-
Just a little off track but these new clamp levers really do seem much stronger than the previous issue...well done Alex/Gardiners... ;D ;D
I dropped my SL-X/cutdown today from a garage roof and all the clamp levers survived...tommorow I'll try driving over them and see what happens.
Cheers
Dave.
Cheers

Alex will the SLX-22 be instock this week?

Yellow maximum rigidity at length. Red Maximum extendable length. Its in the instructions I think.

Stoppers would be nice like on the older poles that came before them.

I am definately going to get the slx next week as my first and only pole for the momebnt. What size do I want to do first floor and the occasional second floor loft conversion window. Not the velux flat type mentioned in the thread earlier/
@Mb cleaning, your saying you bought a extra light brush Doesnt the Slx Come with the extra light brush??
-
Alex can you call me if your reading this, anytime tomorrow or monday on the mobile.
im taking that break to sort a few things
Thanks
Ian

I bought the superlite brush to put on my extel pole. which has made a big difference.

But then we couldn't remove sections, which is a huge benefit for us. ;)

Krave, get the longest pole you can afford. If you can afford it buy the 35 foot sl2. You can then just buy new sections that can take it upto 70 ft plus.
It is the only genuine really top class one pole for all work.
If you'd rather slx, then it is easier to remove sections if you need to, cos you can only add one bit to the slx appart from the longest one. I think.
But the sl2 will allow you to accept and seek work on the taller buildings that go for premium rates. You can also do ground floor with the number one section.
The sl2 pole is i think the best moneymaking pole out there.
It is modular but you only 2 sections to clean most houses. Rareley more than 4 section. But you can add 8,9,10 sections or more if you need to.

Sounds like you could do with a 25ft pole. A 22ft could do it all but 25 will give you greater flexability.

Think the sl2 for standard houses would slow you down big time for larger and commercial work I agree but standard no chance
-

Why is that ian. Having to carry the extra section or more? If that is the case i know what you mean.
I was using telescopic for 2 1/2 years then have used sl2 on all work for last year. It takes a little while to get used to, but is extremely quick with the way i work.
Like anything it just takes getting used to.
I've found it fractions slower than a telescopic pole. Not big time.
The biggest problem i have is when i use 4 sections on a domestic. I leave a section or 2 behind sometimes. And section 1 could do with being a bit shorter.
But it is the only practical pole that will do all work, out there.
There isn't any other.

that is the reason Mark,
Add staff to that and I would be pulling my hair out, if only me I would still not do it on the smaller work as I know it would take longer during the day even when used to it, as I do not mind going over gates ect. I can extend pole by 5 inches to go over, with mod pole you cant. I love debate think it is great :)
-
Yes i know what you're saying. I wouldn't want staff let loose on them either. But krave is looking for a pole and the sl2 is the 1 pole that can allow him to clean everything. There is no other pole out there that can do it. None.
The modular takes some getting used to for us because we've grown with telescopic. Krave has no wfp pole experience and will have no preconceptions. He will take to it quicker than us.
My sl2 has been hammered on everything for last 12 months, 14 months old. Replaced section 2 and gotta get section 1. It is a hard wearing pole. And taken many knocks.
If krave can afford it, sl2 is the 1st pole to get. It opens up everything window cleaning. Domestic and commercial.
It will earn him very quickly the money to get a smaller telescopic for domestic work if he wants.
-

for a new starter I would not want to recommend cleaning at 60ft when they have not cleaned at 116ft, your right if he want to go for high commercials and over 3s houses, but from what hes saying to me, it is houses he wants to start on, and tele pole would IMO be the best option, if money was not tight I would say get an extel pole for day to day and slx for the higher work as the xtel will get killed quickly
-

Yes i understand. But that is 2 poles. 1 pole that does everything? SL2.
No need to start at 60 feet. The point is it has that capability.
I sound like a salesman. ;D
I was just mentioning the option. Cos it does all ive said and as long as sections aren't left behind, might be a couple of minutes slower over the day.
I also think the 25 ft slx would be a good pole that will cover him for almost everything domestically.
But one thing won't change. Whichever pole any of us buys, we always wish we'd got a bit bigger. Krave will think the same regardless.
The fact that he is looking at carbon fibre for his everyday pole shows he is well informed. 25 ft covers 95% of my domestic work. 18 ft covers about 85 % of my work.
-
Crickey, 116 feet! :o
-
I will probably still use my 17ft extel for the majority of my houses, I say this now, I'll probably change my mind when my SLX arrives lol
Will the SLX-22 or the SLX-25 be too long for gound floor windows like french doors and conservatory doors?

If you use a plastic angle adaptor + swivel you can easily do everything from your feet to whatever height your pole goes to. ;) Have you ever worked with a swivel adaptor MB?

A little but you'll never work without one once you've tried it! ;) Any window at any angle & still keep your brush square-on to the glass, less moving about for you too. It's like a wagtail for wfp! ;)
-
I’ve never used the “swivel” part with wfp either where do you get them from?
Gardiners sell 'em. BUT you need to modify them to make them strong enough for wfp. The swivel adaptor is just like a ball-joint, one end fits your pole, the other end you brush. You need to drill a streight hole right through the centre & insert a pin/nail. This prevents the ball poppin' out of it's socket! 5 minute job. IMO, this is as big of a revolution than a carbon pole, I couldn't work without one now. I have jobs that a fixed brush couldn't acheive.
Think of all the situations now where you can't get square-on to the window- conservatories, cars/car ports, trees/bushes, flower pots/beds, etc.etc.etc.
Combine the neck + swivel to give you the abilty to adjust your brush to any angle both up/down & side to side!!! Doing the bottom of patio doors without bending down. Getting through juliet style balconys (railings) etc. Just twist your pole & the brush swivels left/right.
Trust me Ewan, you know I'm always right. ;) ;D

By the way, Gardiners is working on an integrated swivel system for their superlite brushes. I've always found the plastic ones a bit flimsy to use, and add to the closed length of the pole. Maybe I was doing it wrong.

Yes, I'm a confirmed swiveler. I just can't work without one these days. I use a small nut and bolt through mine. Not only does the brush always remain flat to the glass but with a little wrist action you can scrub in a circular motion at the same time as the vertical strokes.
I've said it for the last two years - it's about time a manufacturer came up with a much stronger purpose built one that a) lasts for years and b) has some adjustability to tension the movement and even a lockout facility.
look at the flipper swivel - it's such a simple design and probably far stronger than a ball and socket.

Does anyone have got some pics of the finished product? I might give it another go. :)
