I have decided to go WFP on awkward and dangerous windows on my round, have bought a trolley/backpack combo and have a RO arriving tomor. What i want to know is how do i go about getting rid of the fairy built up on the windows? Should i trad said same windows one more time using just pure water in preperaton for next months first WFP cleans or just hit them straight away with WFP?
-
Hit them hard!!!!! ;D ;D ;D
-
Personally I would just clean them as you mean to go on....wfp them and then go back and do them for a 2nd time.
1st time...concentrate on the frames, espcially the top frame & glass.
2nd pass....clean as normal.
Plent of rinsing.
Cheers
Dave.

To be honest i personaly dont rate wfp, thats just my opinion but also know personaly wfp windies that tell me its crap, but most importantly is the fact when i go out canvassing i hear every time customers who hate it, and to be honest the amount of work i pick up from the polers being sacked is a fairly large amount. But i have also explained to my custies i will being doing the odd window WFP which i deem to be dangerous from a ladder, and their fine with this

since i went wfp i find it great , best thing thats happened to wc
i do get the odd complaint ::)
and there is the odd windows that will not come good with wfp :'(
but on the hole its great ;D

i would have saved money stuck with the ladders and missed the bad windows ;D ;D

traditional is the best way for windows but wfp is the safest remember one fall and you could lose all your custys, put yourself first and there standards second, custys can be replaced you cannot!!!!!!!!
-
The times i`ve heard that said i`ll only use it on a few awkward windows lol i said it myself and believe me after a few weeks if there not in you`ll be doing the whole house WFP until in the end you`ll think sod the ladders where`s me pole, trust me.If you use the pole to it`s potential ladders are hardly needed.

CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP (and then just for good measure) CRAP ;D

Why don't you rate WFP? works fine in the right hands. Maybe the wc's you are speaking to are muppets because 99% of the time there are no problems and a better finish IMO!!! Mike hit the nail on the head! - operator error :o ::) ::)
-
Its all horses for courses and the best tool for the job...as for wfp not being very good..this must be done to the cleaner in question just as it is when a trad guy does a poor job.
WFP wc's are rubbish and fantasic as are trad wc's....neither system is poor...the result in the main is just how it is used. And lets face it...each one of each can be good and bad but never perfect.

I also firmly believe that ladder accidents are operator error, i first started cleaning windows from 1985 to 1999, in that time i came off the ladder 3 times, on all 3 occasions it was my fault. First was ladder slipped on the icy patio second i had the ladder at a stupid angle which to be honest i knew was dodgy but went up anyway, 3rd time was i climbed up on to a wet tiled roof and sliped on the way down.
-
TRUE since going water fed i have never looked back you could never get leaded windows as clean and done faster than by the pole
-
traditional is the best way for windows
Tony that bit makes you sound like a guy who would clean his car with a toothbrush! Technology has moved on and people need to realise it. No one washes their clothes by hand! If the same ideals were used in the real world then we would all still use tapes and VHS. Everyone knows that DVD is better ;)
(Agree with the rest though - no offence intended ;) :) )

It makes me chuckle when i hear people say it dosen`t work i`ve been using it almost 5 years and havn`t lost 1 custies due to the method used, cleaning trad i couldn`t manage 1/2 the work i do so what would be the point in having a biggish round trad and taking on more work i simply couldn`t fit it all in.You can take on as much work as you want trad it`s getting it all done from ladders is the bit which makes me scratch my head,it ain`t happening if you want to keep on top of your work it has to be WFP way or nothing IMO.You also hear a few on hear playing the old i just want to do a perfect job card, yeah right grow some balls and go WATERFED lol. ;D ;D

WCE The muppets you mention are A, the custmomers B,One of the biggest cleaning firms in Bristol who clean nationally. C a good friend of mine that has been a windy for over 10 years and a poler for 6 yrs now. These are the muppets who tell me WFP is crap

Why take the risk again! God the way you go on you'll be on Newsnight next for the fwc (joke) ;D ;D ;D
Seriously I understend what you are saying but why take the risk. WFP operators like NWH (any relation to NWA ;D ;D) will swear by it as I do. We get paid the same at least as a Trad guy yet at no point during the day is there a chance that we will plunge 10 - 15 ft off a ladder. Maybe the Trad cleaner will end up in the future being paid more but until then I wont be going out of my way to use a ladder to do work where I get paid the same despite the risks. You have had 3 falls, why risk another?
-
1 of the biggest cleaning firms in Bristol eh,they probobly couldn`t give a stuff what kind of a job they do it`s not there work they more than likely splash and dashand there are plenty of them giving good WFPolers a bad name.IMO it works better than trad on 90% of jobs at least at the 1`s i do and having to carry a ladder about everyday now would make me cry into my tea.

The window cleaners who say it to you probably just want you to not use the pole so that they have less competition - and you fell for it too ;D

Spot on couldn`t have put it better myself.

What do they know about the in's and out's of WFP? That just re-enforces my operator error arguement.
B,One of the biggest cleaning firms in Bristol who clean nationally.
The bigger they are the lower the standards. Splash and dash! I will say no more ;D
C a good friend of mine that has been a windy for over 10 years and a poler for 6 yrs now.
No offence but somethings wrong. Your in Bristol why dont you and your friend pop down to Tewkesbury and see us. The offer is there, Although if your mate hasn't got the hang of it after 6 years there is probs no hope ;D ;D ;D

Every first clean that was previously done trad I tackle the same as regular cleans.
A bit of an extra scrub of the frames and a really good rinse is all that's needed. I think that this residue thing is a myth, doesn't it ever get washed off with the rain?
-
I see what your saying Dai but if you use a mono brush when you go over the rubber surround on some windows you can actually see the soap bubbling out of them, once this is removed the window i find is cleaned thoroughly pure water thoroughly i mean.

These wfp v traditional arguments are great aren't they ???
Personally, and this is just my opinion, I wouldn't go back to traditional even if I were paid more to do so. I'm forty now and with age comes wisdom. Where's the wisdom in coming off your ladder time after time and simply blaming yourself ???
"It wasn't the ladder, it was me" isn't much of a consolation to the wife and kids when they have to bury you is it :'(.
No, no, no. My mop and squeegy comes out every day, but just to clean inside pub, shop and nursing home windows. Aside from that I'm pretty much 100% wfp ............................ and done properly it's as good as traditional done properly ................................. in my opinion ;)
-
I agree with WCE the larger the company the lower the standards as they just see customers as numbers.
I have worked for big companies in Leicester and they just splash and dash, they don't even go over the sils.
I don't blame the guys who work for them as they have a quota to complete each day and only get paid for X amount of hours.
-
You simply cannot compare the quality of work with a family run firm and someone like OCS,i have seen first hand the quality of work by these so called cleaning firms and the end result is nothing short of a joke how they get away with it is down to 1 thing and 1 thing only"money".
