I have been waiting that long for my web guy to finish my sight i have just set up a temp one tell me what you think, there is a link to my unfinished one on the temp site.
www.cornishwindowcleaning.co.uk
-
I'd be happy enough to have the temporary one its simple and to the point, The one under construction does look nice though.
What site did you use for the temp one? I'd like to build one up myself.
-
I prefer your temporary website even though it's not got as much detail at the moment and needs checking over. The website under construction, whilst being informative, looks a bit old fashioned to me? Just my 2p's worth :)

2 things that i like that stick out are the safety part and that you are cornwalls number 1 window cleaners
itll be good when its finished

Just done some improvements

do you let the customer choose when you will be there Dave? that would be a logistical nightmare wouldn't it??
-
Dave , is it a microsoft live site? if so you need to go in to "properties" to alter the tags so that google can find it ;)
-
Dave,
It looks good, but it needs a bit of 'polish'; some of the English isn't great.
Cornwalls No 1 Window Cleaners is missing an apostrophe; in the About Us section you take GREAT pride in your work and pay GREAT attention to detail. That's one to many 'GREATS'! Use another word or delete the first 'Great'.
'We take pride in our work and our attention to detail is second-to-none?' sounds better than all those 'Greats' (but you've got to check that 'second-to-none' is a hypenated prase (I reckon it is, but not 100% sure; for example).
Overall the web-site wording needs working on; much of it seems too abreviated; it really needs to be looked at by someone who can write good English (and that's not me; I'd suggest Malc G if you don't know anyone) and hone the wording.
A web-site can make you look daft if it's not done properly, and I suspect you've got a great web-designer, but his written English is letting him down.
I hope I've given some constructive critisism and not sounded to overly negative.

it looks like a microsoft live layout. does look beter than the old one.
Dave how did you crb check your employee ?
-
Oh, crb should be in capitals 'CRB', but since abreviations aren't always commonly known, I'd put it in full!
-
Ian
I got myself crb checked through a couple of national cleaning contractors we work for.
If you go to the biggest cleaning firm in your area they normally have the facilities to do it for you.
I will work on the grammar etc over the next few days, it was just a throw together

Is it any better

Not really, Dave:
David Morris Window Cleaning is one of the latest companies to join a leading edge scheme, designed to help industry improve its safety record.
The Cornwall based firm, which employs four people, recently received accreditation from SAFEcontractor, a program which recognises very high standards of Health & Safety practices amongst UK contractors. The company's application for SAFEcontractor accreditation was driven by wanting to set new standards of safety in the window cleaning industry.
Specialising in the commercial sector with a rising client base, the company has doubled its turnover in the last 12 months. Recent clients include Marks & Spencer, The Tate St Ives, The Porthminster Hotel and many other landmark buildings.
"We are delighted to have achieved the SAFEcontractor accreditation," enthuses David Morris. "It shows our clients how committed we are about their Health & Safety obligations while we are cleaning on their premises. So many businesses don't understand their obligations when employing window cleaners and we believe this is a step in the right direction to give them a choice of who to consider when employing window cleaning services."
SAFEcontractor is operated by International Safety, Health & Safety Risk Management Specialist, the National Britannia Group. The system is applicable to most sectors although it is particularly relevant to manufacturers' property, facilities management, retail and leisure - all of which are big users of contract services.
Darran Hughes, Operations Director for SAFEcontractor explains: "Organisations and building owners can no longer run the risk of employing contractors who are not able to prove that they have sound health & safety policies. More companies need to understand the importance of adopting good risk management in the way that David Morris Window Cleaning has done. The firm's high standard has set an example, which hopefully will be followed by other window cleaning firms."
Under the SAFEcontractor system, businesses undergo a vetting process, which examines Health & Safety procedures and their track record for safe practice. Those companies meeting the high standard are included on a database, which is accessible to registered users only via a website. Employer organisations that sign up to the scheme can access the database, which enables them to vet potential contractors before they even set foot on site.
Over 100 major nationwide businesses have signed up to use only SAFEcontractor approved members for services such as window cleaning, maintenance, refurbishment or electrical or mechanical work.
The National Britannia Group is one of the UK's largest independent, safety and environmental risk management specialists employing a total of 450 people within its UK operations. More than 200 of these personnel are scientists or other qualified professionals. The business provides leading edge solutions in disciplines such as Health & Safety, Food Safety and Environmental Management. It also operates two major information services on behalf of the UK Health & Safety Executive.
When I cut and pasted the above it broke into paragraphs, but on your website it was all in one scary looking tedious thing to read.
I haven't read it; it looked too daunting. Maybe tomorrow!

Know what you mean i have shortened it now

ok then i get the drift! ::)
-
Hi Steve
We fit our schedule around all our customers requirements, if they want us there at 10.00 am on a wednesday we will be there at 10.00 am
We let them choose but not many stipulate a time to us, but we offer it
-
your a braver man than me offering that! i would never be able to work that into my schedules. I find my schedules hard enough without having to throw in appointments as well :-\
-
Steve
We have 3 vans out and can easily make adjustments, i am in the office all day co-ordinating so its not too bad.

sounds the same as me although not quite onto the third van. to meet our targets each day a house appointment would just throw a serious spanner in the works.
-
Houses tend not to want times and we discourage them, more aimed at businesses

that i can deal with! a house i wouldn't entertain!! ;)

I have just found out the guy who has got my davidmorris website has ceased trading and i cant get hold of him.
This is the second time i have lost a website domain
First it was dmwindowcleaning , now my david morris.
A tip for anyone who is having a website done, make sure you buy the domain yourself and organise your own hosting.##
I am now ove £300 worst off without a decent website.
Whats more annoying is that is on all my stationary and the £200 worth of business cards i have had done.

or look for a webdesigner that does not do it to you, all domains and hosting I do the names are registered to the person should I stop hosting then the domain can go anywhere else, I told you about this before, looks like my advice was not taken Dave.
So your tip is not a fair one! You can ask anyone of my customers every domain is theres I just host it and re register them.
Dave send me the details and I will look into it for you, you may have to pay £80 + vat to keep it though, not to me I might add I will not charge you for it. this is what nominet charge. this part of domain names and hosting most people will not know about. The offer is there if you want me to try and help.

Ian
Thanks, I will try to contact the guy first.
Fair play if you buy the domain on behalf of your client rather than yourself.
I was just trying to put the point over that make sure it is registered in your own name.
The guy who was doing my website i thought i could trust, same as if i got you to buy it on my behalf.
But as you said there are a lot of people who can vouch for you, so thats good.

i prefer your 1st one mate 8)
my 1st website wot i done meself was:
www.gacontracts.synthasite.com ( the url was masked to gacontracts .co.uk )
i still have:
www.highlevelwindowcleaners.co.uk ( practically the same site, again put together by myself and helps for google ratings)
but then Nat came along and done me a proper site:
www.gacontracts.co.uk
a website is relatively easy to put together if you know how to type in the words "free website maker" in google. :D
-
Do people really think a free site is good for there business image I am not knocking I am just asking as it really does baffle me, there are so many reasons not to have one, and the only slight positive part I can see is it being free (well for now anyway)
-
i dont agree window washers...simply because a free website is the 1st step in buying into a proper one....i only had my free one for around 6 months and i KNEW i had get a proper one done, if i didnt have a free one to play about with i reckon i wouldnt have bothered with the Professional one. 8)
-
Have to agree with scrimman, free websites are a great introduction to building something on your own, and sorry, but there are more reasons to have one and learn, than not to!
-
Everyone feel free to do a link exchage to both sites, just email me your url and i will link them.
I finally contacted my web guy and he promised he is going to get it sorted this week.
-
there are more reasons to have one and learn, than not to!
spot on 8)

anyone remember free net name ? if you do you will know full well what I am saying.
I find it a very strange way to push a business forward yet go back to do it 6 months later properly.
I agree it is worth having a website, but why not get it right the first time ???
Ian
p.s Scrimman im not having a pop at you, I just find it an odd way to do it thats all.
-
and i am not having a pop at you either ;D
a lot of guys are like me, they are wary of paying for something they dont or cant see the benefits of, ie will i get a a lot of jobs from my website?....do i REALLY need one?....etc...then they set about building their own one, and they like the idea of being able to see the results of their own input on a webpage, the customer sees the text/pics/links that they put on, and thats a good feeling.....but then a while down the road they feel they need to do something thats suits their image/purpose/etc and have had the time to save up the readies for a "proper" site....thats me.
then there are other guys that seem to latch on straight away (like yourself window washers).....but we are all at different levels/stages in life and some folks dont buy into the whole "got to have a proper site from the beginning" to be of value......and some do...like me and you and the other guys who have a DIY or a PROPER site :)
i am happy enough plodding away and SLOWLY building my empire ;)
-
Looks very good to me David - see Tosh, he didn't need me at all! ;D
Just one or two inconsistencies with unnecessary capital letters on some words e.g. for "Hotels" and "Schools" and capitals mid-sentence for "And", "Take", "Staff" and "Just" at various points where they should not be.
Also SAFEcontractor and Safecontractor should be consistent I suggest.
