Title: Window Cleaner Pro is Live!
Post by: ianhannaford on September 03, 2008, 09:59:13 pm
Hi Everyone,

Thanks very much for your patience. I have just put the site live.

www.windowcleanerpro.com

There are still some sections under construction but at least you can download the software and use it for free for 45 days.

I have included a Live Help button at the top of the page and my support mobile number (This will not be on all the time but you are free to try anytime in the chance that I have it switched on!)

If anyone has any problems, I can be contact via phone, live help, email, forum etc...I also have the ability to remotely logon to your PC and help you through the installation. I aim to put some video tutorials online so that you can sit back and watch how to use Window Cleaner Pro.

There are a few users already on here that have been helping me test so they may know the anwer to your questions.

Thanks again and please enjoy...it has taken me a long time to get it to this stage and I welcome your feedback

Thanks

Ian

Yes of course...easiest thing to do is to make a backup before you start (Tools -> Backup Utility -> Run backUp).

Save it somewhere and when you want to 'reset' simply load this backup again

If not I always have fresh copies!

I have created a utility to do the import but need to hold its hand as its not been throughly tested. There also seems to be some differences in the export from different users.

Hi Steve,

At the moment it only runs on Windows. This is due to a few technical issues of third party software I am using. However they are releasing an update to cater for the Mac OS in the next couple of months so I may update WCP to work on the Mac.

The main software is for the PC with a companion PDA. The PDA I have chosen to support on first launch are Windows Mobile so wont wok on the Z22. I bought a Z22 and within 30 seconds decided not to go ahread with it :-)

However in the future there may well be one to run on Palm OS

I was a window cleaner many many moons ago. The design has been a collaborative effort of about 8 cleaners all with different business models to try and cater for a wide range or structures.

Thanks...hopefully not too complicated. I have noticed one thing that I must have accidently missed out when I built this version and that is the headers on the schedule section. The headers should be like this www.windowcleanerpro.com/schedule.png

I will add them in the next update. I am also going to try and get some video tutorials posted to the website.

Thanks to everyone for your kind words

Have to admit it does looks the dogs danglies but having had many pieces of software 'hot' of the press so to speak...I'll wait 6 months and see what issues float to the top.

But again it does look a great product at first glance and time will tell if the extra money makes the product a better package than George...George maywell be a little dull looking but at present it is fast and has yet to give me a problem and can be run from any pc (*mobile version excepted).

Will be waiting to hear 'all about it'

Cheers
Dave....

ps...Ian the program does look good.

Hi Dave,

Thats fair enough and thank you. The one advantage of being an early adopter is you have a greater influence on the features and functionality as the software grows. You have a fully functional 45 day trial to play to see if its right for you.  I think after using it to run a few rounds side bt side for this time youll be able to make your mind up which software you prefer.

Cheers

Ian, what folder is all the input data saved in....so i can back it up myself on my portable hard disk

Its backed up to install_dir/db but it will pay you to use the backup utility in WCP as this encrypts the data and shrinks the data size.

You can find the backup tool undet Tools->Backup Utility or when you close the program it asks you if you want to back up

This normally indicates a problem with your firewall blocking the program access to the internet. What firewall are you using?

On the maintain screen, click the Next Clean button. This allows you to enter a futre clean date for that job.

Hope that helps

How do you adjust a debt as in if you enter the full amount as paid and click ok , then realise this was a mistake and say they only paid half the amount, how do you adjust it,

also you cant edit the equipment box,

Dave,

You have spotted a slight bug in the way that dates are caculated! The reason this is not scheduling correctly is that there is no previous clean. I will fix this in the next update (due very soon) but for now the easiest way to get round it is to add another Future Date for 4th September.

This will then schedule the job for the 12th.

Let me know if that works

Dave,

To adjust the amount on the job history screen you can go to add payment and enter a negative amount. For example if you entered the user paid £10 but then realised they only paid £5, go to the Job History screen (maintain), click on the payment and add -£5.

You could also delete the Payment line from the job history and enter the payment. So you would delete the £10 payment and enter a payment of +£5.

For the equipment, you need to first add equipment to your business under Tools->Equipment. Then on the job details screen, click the Add button. It will show a list of all your equipment which you can choose to add to the job.

Hope that answers your questions

Ian

I know about this additional penny and actually it is correct!

My accountant did explain it to me but I can't remeber exactly where the additional penny comes from. It to do with rounding figures and applying VAT. I can get the explaination today if your interested.

As for importing your data from George. I have created a utility to do this but because of the differences in the way export from George I am having to do it manually at the moment. I will in the next couple of days create an import utility that you can use. Its a matter of structuring your data in the correct way. For example George does not export round information so I have no way of adding jobs to sensible round names.

Give me a day or so and Ill see if I can get this done asap.

How do you set up jobs that start next week?

example, if i gave a quote today and they accepted and i wanted to enter it into WCP how do i set it up so the cleaning starts say next friday?

everything i enter seems to start cleaning today

this might be the same as what i had to do, if you highlite custy, goto maintain and delete the clean then goto next clean and on the calender select the date you want to do, it will only show change once restarted wcp.

Ian

Ian,

could you just explain that a little better please... sorry lol

Sure,

When you set a futrue date is trys to calculate the next future date from todayand AFTER the previous clean/date. This is so you can set up multiple future dates. For your job it does not have a last clean, it is defaulting the next due to today.

As the workaround, if you add a future date as today and then add your future date for the 12th September, the scheduling will picjk up the 12th September. So to iterate:

If you want to set a future date on a job that has not been done before, follow these steps:

1) Add a Next Clean for today (eg. 4th Sep)
2) Add the correct future date using Next Clean (eg 12th Sep)

So you will have 2 future dates on the maintain screen.

Hope that makes it a little clearer. If not drop me an email and I can always logon to your machine and show you.

Thanks

Ian

could you just explain that a little better please... sorry lol

Ian, just got in, sorry I missed your email.

Unsure what you mean in the email about downloading a programme to the desktop, is this to gain access to my pc? Probably not really necessary in all honesty, Im pretty pc savvy, I have  turned the firewall off and still getting the same problem.

Dave,

ReflectionWindowCleaning was correct. The future dates also sort themselves out when you restart the software. I.e if you add a future clean for the 12th, although it says is due on the 12th the schedule screen does not update. If you restart the software it will be ok.

But again I will get this fixed hopefully this evening along with a few small featue requests from people.

i have a job that needs doing 3 times over the 5 day week how do i input this also if i try and print the work sheet for say tommorrow it sayes this document has no pages or am i doing something wrong

The way that WCP works is as follows:

On the schedule screen it is broken into two halves, your schedule on top and your worksheets on the bottom.

You need to select work from the schedule and add to worksheets. You do this by clicking the checkboxes on the far right again the round/job and click the 'Add to worksheet' button.

This will add the selected work to the current worksheets (you can define as many of these as you wish).

You can then print your worksheet.

Let me know if you want any more help

The best way to do this would be to set a freq on the job for 2 days. You could put it in as different jobs if you wanted to and have them all in their own schedule. Have a play as you can always delete the data.

Oh yes, I didnt think about the 7 day week. I would then put them as three jobs for 1 customer with a 7 day cycle.

I would agree in george you can select what days you work

With most of the other window cleaners I worked with we found this to be too restrictive and was not that helpful. If it becomes as issue I will add it in but after trying out for a few months it became more of a pain than acutally helping.

I could try and put working days into the program ,the problem with this is that some user may decide to work on weekend and equally it would throw it out. If you add the job as 2 days and do it friday, it will be due sun, if you then do the job on monday it will reschedule for wednesday...i.e. 2 days from when you actually did the job.

Let me know how it goes

will do
thats all i can see whats wrong but thats just my opinion
like you say alot of cleaners dont have these sort of jobs  so will be confusing but it may be an idea as an option for people to use by days as well as how many days
maybe you could have the option of say do the job on monday wed fri  or every 2 days  just my opinion see what everyone else thinks ;)

let us know when you have that programme to import George. Even if we can import the database that would be an accomplishment, anything else i.e. the customer history would be a bonus. Have messed about with the programme but wont really know how good it is until I have transferred customers over from George.

Not a download :-( I wish it was that easy. Because there is some data missing from George export I have had to create a utility which I need to run to do the importing. I will start a new topic with some instructions.

It imports all customers, debts and expenses.

It does not have any job history or anything else that is not availble in the export.

is there a way that you can change the default settings on JOB .
so that i can have it set as standard
frequency set at 1 month
account as last set on last job
tax rate turned off

I think this would make it a lot faster with the input of JOBS
If i can set the program to these Defualts can you please tell me how.

Martin,

I can add it to the list of thing to do. I think its only a pain at the moment as your having to enter all your data. Once the bulk of data has been entered you will not use this screen again in the same way i.e. you will add/edit a few jobs a week.

You can set the vat rate to default to 0.00 if you are not vat registered. To do this, go to Tools->VAT Rates and set the primary rate to 0.00.

There is no way at present to default to account or frequency.

If you have your data in a spread sheet I could also import using the utility I have created to import George data. To see the format that I need this in goto www.windowcleanerpro.com/george.php

Thanks

should the profits screen on accounts not show the cleans untill they have paid?
The calender should be able to say put appoints and things to do in not just the scheduled work!

Not sure if this has been asked already, but, when you have a week off, everything is showing a week behind on george. To get over this you have to manually one by one move every job forward a week to over come this.

Do you have a facility where as you can move everything forward a week?

Since WCP is not based on a calendar view they jobs will just turn red. Once you do them they will fall back in line as expected. You can even choose whether the jobs is schedule from the due date or the date you actually did the clean.

A good feature would be an option to print an automatic worksheet which will print all due work to a certain date. without picking individual jobs to add to the sheet.

In George I have this option, i just go jobs/ print worksheet / to date/ then you pick your date then it prints everything which is due

Does it print everything that is due only on that day? What if you have overdue jobs? Also how would it work if you had a job for tomorrow, that you wanted to do today, maybe because you wanted to take tomrrow off or maybe you had someone to help for the day so you wanted to get more of your work done?

The other downside to not putting on a worksheet is the use of the End of Day quick entry screen.

Another users has asked for a report that will tell you all work due on (or between) a certain dates. I could extend this to automatically create the worksheet for a date that you select...for exmaple you would click 'Make worksheet by Date' button, choose your date and it will add all jobs due on that day. You would then be free to add/remove jobs as you wish and also have the additional functionality like End of day and sending to PDA etc...

Thanks for the idea

Hi Ian

I have an idea about selling your software to Apple, I have a I phone and it be great to have this program on my I phone, basically you can contact apple and have your software put in their Apple store, which all I phones users have them.
You put your software in their apple store and any window cleaner who wants it can pay a small fee and download it to their I phone. And Apple get a small fee from your sales.
I am sure that you can sell so much of your soft wear through most countries.

It will print everything that is due or overdue, and even in advance , all you do is pick the date and it will print every uncomplete job up until the date you pick wether you want to pick your overdue work to last thursday only, today, yesterday, next week.

What I do every monday morning is to print my worksheets up until the coming saturday and that will give me every job until that date even includes jobs not completed from the last week.

Every evening i enter the days activities but dont have print any more work sheets.

You idea is good where say print evrything then remove the ones you dont want, i have a similar way , you just use a pen and scribble them off

All,

I have uploaded the new update, apologies for it taking a little longer than expected. The new update is 2.3.4. When you open WCP it should connect to the server and tell you there is a new version available. Follow the instructions to download and install.

If you are not notified there is an update then please check your firewalls to make sure that you allow wcp to access (If you need a hand with this let me know). The major changes in this update are:

Screen Layout Updates to allow scrolling on Accounts, Rounds and Expenses screen.

About Us Window Error

Separated house number and street name

Auto complete of street names

Worksheet error when printing worksheets for first time

Persistence of service, account, frequency and address details

Future dates and Schedule screen refresh

Expandable column headers on round screen

Expanded customer reference on worksheet printouts

Added headers to the schedule list

New line for company/customer name on invoices

When you exit and backup the application now closes

Split pane on schedule screen to make the split heights equal

Removed validation for customer salutations

Added days of the week to frequency

There are a few other minor changes like spelling etc...

I will try and get another update out with some more reports, pre printing invoices, quoting and some other changes that have been requested.

Please let me know if anyone has any problems

Thanks

is there a way that you can change the default settings on JOB .
so that i can have it set as standard
frequency set at 1 month
account as last set on last job
tax rate turned off

I think this would make it a lot faster with the input of JOBS
If i can set the program to these Defualts can you please tell me how.

These changes (apart from not displaying the VAT) have been added to the new update.

let me know if there is anything else

paul

I would also like to know. Have looked on net for anything running Windows Mobile 5.0 and the results are in the £100s.
Anyone know the cheapest as i'm not a fan of anything that is too expensive to be disposable.

I know some people that have bought a HP IPAQ RX1955 series from ebay for about £50-£60

a couple of things, how do you put a purchase order on the invoice?
should the profits screen on accounts not show the cleans untill they have paid?
The calender should be able to say put appoints and things to do in not just the scheduled work!

Ronnie,

I am not sure what you mean by the first comment?  Can you expand a little?

The accounts screen can show cleaned (Invoice Accounting) or collected (Cash Accounting). There is a drop down box to switch between the two. You can also set which one you require by default under Tools->Preferences.

I have plans to be able to add events to the calendar in the future, at the moment it is a tool that can be used to view your cleans only.

Thanks

show values for...collect box.....from 1/08/2008....to
                                                                                  it stop here at... to

I want to get the details tab,or have i got it wrong.there is not scroll bar at the bottom of the screen.

This is normally a firewall problem. You will need to allow the program c:/Window Cleaner Pro/.install4j/updater.exe access to the Internet.

Make sure you back up your data if you are going to uninstall and downlod the latest version. I will upload a new page to the website where you can download the update rather than the whole version.

Let me know if anyone needs any help

It looks as though you have all your work in one round (main round). While this is acceptable WCP is designed to help you structure and organise you work more efficiently. Instead of having one round with 100 jobs it is better to split these up into logical units of work.

For example you could use the street name or area name like:

Cromer Way
  2 Cromer Way
  4 Cromer Way
  ...
Soleway
  6 Soleway
  22 Soleway
  ...
Medway
  5 Medway
  ...

So you would create three rounds called Cromer Way, Soleway and Medway and put each job into the respective rounds. If all these were in say an area called The Meads and you could do them all in a day, you could just have a round called The Meads and put all the jobs into 1 round.

The calendar shows all your rounds and when they are due. If you are not organising your work into logical rounds then you wont be able to use the schedule screen to its full capacity.

If people still require one large round, then I may add the option to view jobs on the calendar, but this gets very crowded and would require some interface changes!

Thanks

Ian

oh i see.
I work mostly in the countryside and very few of my jobs have anything address wise in common, except for the village name.
I can see an advantage if i had rows of streets in town but my average day would consist of 4 or 5 different villages.
If i wanted to keep my round as 1, is the calendar redundant for me then?
As i was expecting to see something in there. For example amount of jobs and value of the days scheduled work.

If you splits ur days work into different rounds Mark then ur calender will work mate. It's cause u have them as all 1 round.

Having it split will make it easy to print off work or send work to PDA.

I've got 14 jobs due on monday. When i run the mouse over it says jobs:0.
In the schedule it give me what info is there and the options to send to pda or to print etc.

Am i better off splitting my round into days, weeks or areas then?
My average work day is split between around 5 different areas.

I've only ever used microsoft calendar to schedule my work and that just gives me a daily list. Maybe that is clouding my thoughts on getting the best out of this software.

Mark,

You would probably be best splitting your work into days/weeks (i.e. logical blocks of work) that way you will have X number rounds and on your calendar it will show you all the rounds and their respective due dates. In your case you would have:

Week 1, Day 1
Week 1, Day 2
Week 1, Day 3
Week 1, Day 4
Week 1, Day 5
Week 2 Day 1
Week 2 Day 2
and so on...

I can possible add the option to view jobs instead of rounds on the calendar but its not a simple task.

The schedule screen is more important and efficient when scheduling your work.  Once you have split your work you will see how simply the schedule screen is!

Hi Ronnie,

This is due to your firewall not allowing access to the updater tool. You need to make sure that the program C:\Window Cleaner Pro\.install4j\updater.exe is allowed access to the internet through your firewall.

If you need any help, the let me know what firewall you are using and Ill see if I can post details on how to do this

What's the history of wcp? when did it come out? when and why did you decide to write it?
Who are you Ian?

I originally wrote WCP version 1 about 2 years ago for a friend who was having trouble with his accounts and keeping up to date with his work. He then showed it to a friend, who wanted it and showed it to his friend etc...after a while I was getting quite a few emails asking if they could have the program as well. I decided to sell V1 but to a limited number of people.

Version 1 was a success but required some big changes to cater for other business models and new features needed to be added like the PDA.

I decided to take time off work to dedicate full time to writing the next version incorporating all the feedback and lessons that I had learnt from V1. It took a little longer than expected and has been in development for a little over 8 months. I released version 2.0 about 4-5 months ago to a select number of users to help me test it in the real world.

I decided that I needed to launch Aug/Sep and so had to draw a line under some of the developments and decide what features were to be included and those that would be put in cycle 2. I finally released V2.3.3 on Wednesday 3rd September @ 9.52. Since then we have had 248 downloads and this is growing all the time.

I have also had many requests for additional functionality to be added some of which I included in last nights update 2.3.4.

My aim is to turn WCP into a full time business to enable the program to grow and adapt to the industry. I listen to every users feedback and if I beleive a suggestions will help others then I add it to the list of things to do.

My name is Ian Hannaford and I am based in East Sussex. I have been married for nearly 6 years and have 3 wonderful sons.

I hope that answers your questions?

Thanks

Ian

WCP opens and downoads update. It just will not install it.
I get the message "Please enter credentials for a user that can access this resource" I then get a message saying "Windows cannot access C:Window Cleaner Pro\wcp_windows2_3_4_update.exe"

I'm runing legit Vista with all updates. Windows firewall is ON, Defender is ON and using McAfee security Centre V8.1

Could it be to do with Vista compatability......?

I am not sure what causes this error. It is something to do with the fact that the file cannot be saved to disk so when it tries to run it, it cannto find it. Whilst I am investigating you can download the file to your PC and run it manually to update the software.

It can be downlaoded at www.windowcleanerpro.com/wcp_windows_2_3_4_update.exe

I will continue to investigate and let you know the outcome

Thanks Ian....... It works a treat....... :)

I don't mean to be a pain but I have just uploaded another update 2.3.4.1 - This is a few minor fixes and features:

1) Number of search results on customer search screen
2) Searching for a company name is now fixed when adding a job.
3) Refresh screen sometimes hangs now has 15 second timeout
4) On the End of Day screen it will now only default the collected amount if you actually click done.

It's not a critical update but highly recommended if you are going to use the End of Day screen.

Thanks

P.S For all those having problem downloading the update I have contacted the thrid party supplier and asked then to look into it. The new update can be downloaded and installed manually at www.windowcleanerpro.com/wcp_windows_2_3_4_1_update.exe

I will try and fix the download issue asap so that you can get automated updates.

Ian when do you anticipate the feature of printing off ALL invoices ( 1 for customer and 1 for me ) for the whole day in one go being added? Thanks, Luke

Hi Ian,

I've d/loaded WCP and it looks really interesting.

You mentioned you were going to be doing some tutorials for the software to show us how to get the most out of the system.

Could I suggest a couple of tutorials like this one on youtube - Metatrader 4 Basics

youtube.com/watch?v=iJ11u_4J0ho

Cheers
Dave.

Hi Luke,

I have been thinking about the best way to do this and there are some outstanding issues that I would appreciate some feedback on. My number 1 priority at the moment is to get the import utility done but after than I will post my thoughts with a list of questions for you to answer.

Thanks

Thanks Ian for the info about you, this is a forum so even thought the topic is about functionality we are allowed to ask questions especially when the topic is a bit dry. I was quite pleased with your answers although a bit about your programming background might have rounded the picture a bit.

I am glad you intend to make an ongoing commitment and this is one of my worries about the programme I use at the moment, that it is a sideline or hobby alongside a main job and his interest could wane. Price for me (within reason) is not an issue, a really good programme can save me many hours of work and head scratching.

I hope you crack this, and if you do i'll have one.

yes ian. ask some questions. but basically all i want it to do is replicate an invoice book. where along with the days work sheet all the invoices can be printed out for that day with 1 copy for your business and 1 copy for the customer.....Luke

No problem...a brief overview of my background:

My first business was a window cleaning round whilst I was at school instead of the traditional paper round. I then moved into duct work and became an apprentice fitter, I then happened to be in the right place at the right time and got into IT on support desk for Oracle Financials, from there I went onto to become a Programmer, through the last 8 years I have moved into different roles in IT: Consultant, Business Analyst and Solutions Architect.

Hope that answers your question...thanks

These are the headings i would like pre installed on the accounts/expenses package;
Motoring; Road Tax, Van Insurance, Van repairs, Diesel.
And then I would like:
Equipment, Advertising, Phone,Office, Consumables,Workwear, Miscelaenous.

So Motoring has four headings of it's own, and the rest of our business is covered entirely by seven headings.
That's the profit and loss account sorted.

Now this is probably overkill, but in a perfect world we should be able to account for our cash. The tax man is very keen on this too. What he wants to see is how much cash you have at the end of the week, a cash in hand figure is produced by adding the money you have taken in to last weeks cash in hand and taking away any money you have spent. This should be checked against the cash you actually have to see if it tallies. This figure is then carried forward to the following week.

Out of cash in hand can be taken wages (drawings). And of course anything you pay for by cheque does not affect this figure.

I know you will be familiar with much of this Ian, granny sucking eggs and all that, and this may be a bit ambitous at the moment but it is the sort of booted and suited solution that I and many others would pay a premium for. I see that one programme called sage is actually accepted by hmrc and I believe this  is because you cannot go back into it and change entries. (i've seen internet adds to do just that ;D) Anyway my point is that I wouldn't be at all surprised if they would be prepared to help you achieve something that is acceptable to them. (I'm not talking a complete accounts package).

I can see you've got enought on your plate at the moment, but maybe this could be something for the future.Oh, and thanks Luke but how did you know I was going to say this?

Hi Ian,

No, I tend to use Kitco, ADVFN, Capital Spreads (their free platform) and some others.

I do like the Metatrader training guides though!...very easy to understand and I love they way they talk you through the programme as he's working with it. Makes it all very easy to understand and he shows you little tricks and tips to get the most out of the programme.

I use Sage. Sage works using the 'double entry' principle.

I hate it!!

Its time consuming and a nightmare if you do an incorrect entry. You can delete the entry (as you say, it never goes away) you delete the entry then enter the information correctly. The original incorrect entry will show up as a red entry.

Its good for running VAT returns.

But as they say - junk in, junk out!

Yes, this was added to the last update. Sometimes due to threading issue this happens and I have not been able to reproduce consistently enough to know why it happens. As a work around I have added a 15 second timeout and as you pointed out the program should function normally - I put the message up just to let you know that if the data is not as expected it maybe a refreshing issue :-)

Thanks

Good luck Ian.

The only issue people are really having is that they require the import utility. There have been no 'issues' rasied over the functionality of the software. Peolpe have been requesting new features rather than fundamental changes.

Ian I do not want to argue with you as you are doing a fantastic job but I have read through this thread, issues have been reported over some items concerned wih functionaility. I just observed and made a comment but please do not tell me no issues have been raiesed when clearly some have and you have stated this when making references to fixes.

Good luck...it does look at great product and when it's finished I will certainly be looking at it.

Dave,

I meant that any bugs that were raised have been fixed in the updates and since then I don't think that any are outstanding, the items I have on my list of things to do are additional features. The core product I beleive is stable and has been tested over the last 4 months.

Thanks for the vote of confidence and I look foward to your suggestions once you start using it (hopefully sonner rather than later :-) )

havent got the time to read over these "issues" but i cant find a problem with it and with these updates i am flying through entering my customers, done like 40 in a hour tonight

i had a go with george, really not for me, and no way was it as easy and quick as this

and looks no where near as good as this

no offence to george, obviosly alot of people use it. but i do think wcp has an edge on it (a big one)

and good support from ian to which is a good thing for me

keep up good work ian, and like i say the update is great for enetering cutomers!

Ian have you been able to sort out the update problem?

Yes I think I know why it happens, its a matter of finding a permanant solution.

I think the reason that it happens is that Windows Vista User Access Control (UAC) is not allowing the update installer to run. I think one way around this problem is to run the window cleaner pro as an administrator by right clicking on the icon on the desktop and selecting Run as administrator.

However I think I maybe able to programatically get round this problem by releasing the updates with Admin permissions.

Thanks

I'm struggling with all this.

Unless there is a tutorial to be viewed, this program is gonna be gone.

I'm finding entering all my data on a spreadsheet much quicker. All my info can be viewed on 1 page.
I have to scroll along with this.
Make an action then have to click twice. Once to do it and another to click on ok.
It is like repeating myself everytime.

At the moment i am very disappointed!!

I am going through the program and removing the alerts as we speak and should be ready soon.

I'm trying to enter payments and when i do i get 2 lines come up.

On the other pic they weren't home so have a payment outstanding.
What do i enter in the payment screen? I have entered and saved 0 but it doesn't show up when i click on the debt list.

Also when the payments screen is accessed i can't scroll down or access the help page which is running.

Mark,

Yes with some training you will def see a difference.

I think what you are doing wrong is that instead of adding a payment of 0 the system needs to know that you actually performed the clean but accepted no payment. You need to click the 'Add Clean' button and enter the date and how much you are charging. Then in the payment box make sure that this is 0.

Click Save and a new line item will appear in the users history called Clean. It will also take the users account into a negative figure and hence show up on the debt screen.

Let me know if that helps

Mark,

What you have done here is tried to add the miss clean for the 6 Oct. On the miss a clean screen this is used to enter the date that you want to next clean the job rather than the day you want to miss.

So to get round this you would actually enter the clean as 6 Oct + frequency (if its 4 weeks then 3rd November).

However I think this is an excellent addition and will add it to my list.

Thanks

Not undo as such, since the system has already rescheduled the job accordingly. You can find it again in the schedule on the top half of the screen and add it to the worksheet again.

Hi Philip,

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I have written a utility that is in Beta testing with a few forum users as we speak. It would not take long to import 300+ jobs with the help of the utility. The testers have raised a few points that I would like to fix before an official release which I am hoping in the next couple of days. This will then allow you to do the import yourself.

I am not sure I can convince you to migrate to WCP as I am not an accountant and would not know how easy/hard it would be to produce the records from two systems. I would assume that as long as you have income and expenditure then this would enable you to do that?

What other info would you need as George does not export a users job history so I am unable to import it.

Hope that answers your questions and please feel free to give me a ring if you want to discuss.

Thanks

Ian

imagine someone building an engine, someone asking you to take the components out and rebuilding them into a different engine

With the option of entering start and end date for the statemment period or all amounts owed at the date of rasing the statement.

can you tell me how to set up the pda
when i go to the handheld  device it does'nt see it.
my pc can see it and sync is running

Sure, with you PDA connected to the PC open WCP and go to Tools->Handheld Devices. Click the button 'Install WcpLite 1.1'

This will then install the software on your PDA. Once the software is installed, you can find it on the PDA under Start -> Programs.

If you get any warning messages about requiring the Microsoft .NET framework then simply go back to WCP and click Tools->Handheld devices and click 'Install .NET Framework'

You only need to connect the PC with the cable to install, once its installed you can use WiFi to communicate with each other.
(Let me know if you dont intend using WiFi and would prefer to use cabled)

Once you are able to open WcpLite on the PDA you will noticed an input box at the bottom called Host: 127.0.0.0.1 - you will need to fill this in with the IP address of WCP on the main PC. This can be found either on the screen under Tool->Handheld Devices or in the status bar in the bottom left hand corner.

Enter this number in the Host box on the PDA and click Connect. You should noticed in the status bar that the Connected Devices chagnes to 1 and the status on the PDA changes to Connected. This may take a minute when you first connect as it has to authenticate itself.

Let me know how you get on

Ian

The minimum requirement to run WcpLite is Windows Mobile 5.0 and above. The reason is that the software needs the microsoft .NET framework to run and this will only work on 5.0 or higher.

You only option is to purchase a newer PDA. I think someone post earlier that they found a few on ebay for about £50 or you can buy brand new for about £150. Le t me know if you want some advice on a purchase.

Thanks

You only option for £100 is to try and get one from eBay. Obviously I have no control over quality etc...I have 2 PDA's that I used for testing. One older one with window mobile 5.0 called a HP Ipaq RX1955 (or any 1950 series). You can get these from ebay for around £50.

If you want to spend a little more you can go for brand new one with warrenty etc, I have a HP Ipqa 114 Classic which I purchased from ebuyer for £150.

If you are going to have a look on ebay you need to make sure that it has Windows Mobile 5.0 or 6.0 and I would highly recommend that it has WiFi (makes like sooo much easier).

Hope that helps

Hi Ronnie,

The price is still available yes, I dont expect that many will start buying until they have used the trial and thoroughly tested and makes sure that it will work for them so no problem there.

All updates for version 2 are free. The internet backup service will be charge at £5 a month.

Let me know hoe your getting on with it

Hi All,

I have uploaded the new update 2.3.4.3.

These are a summary of changes in this update:

1) George Import Utility (Beta Only)
2) Correct job order when adding new job (thanks the LWC)
3) Most of the alerts when perfoming an action now are in the status bar rather than in the pop up (thanks to mark dew)
4) Minutes displayed as Hours and Minutes (Thanks to wightsurf)
5) Negative payments on invoice (Thanks to Matty)
6) Duplicate address when searching for customer (Thanks to Matty)
7) Error when raising invoice without a payment method fixed
8) Miss a clean so you can choose when the clean is missed (thanks to mark dew)
10) Display the next clean window after adding task (Thanks to Chris)

I am still working on other feature requests that other have submitted but thought I would get these released.

Thanks, let me know if anyone has any problems

I think you need to download an export utility from George's website and run this to get the CSV Files.

I will put a tutorial up today to explain how to use the import utility.

Hi Andy,

I had noticed this with another user today. It looks as though sometimes George exports additional columns.

For the current import to work the CSV file can only contain the current fields.

Title,Forename,Surname,Address1,Address2,Address3,Address4,Post/Zip Code,Phone,eMail,Price,Frequency,Next Due

Please check the CSV file and delete any additional columns. I would be interested to know what added field your export had. THe user I was testing with today had Status, First Done, Times Cleaned as additional

Let me know if that works as I am updating the tool now (remember its only a Beta release and has not been thoroughly tested)

You can give me a call if you need a hand.

Thanks

Hi Paul,

Answer can be found at my forum:

www.windowcleanerpro.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=6

basically you need to run the program as adminstrator, you can do this by right clicking and selecting 'Run as Adminstrator'

Thanks

I downloaded the Export prog this evening.... V1.18

Also had a little idea to speed up the transfer of details.......

I hardly ever use the customers email field so I'm going to go through and put the round name in that field . Then I'll save it in the EXPORT file. Then when transfered to WCP it will show the round name and so quicker to assign it to a round in WCP.....

Im working on a better way to organise the rounds once the customers are in WCP as we speak. On the import tool you can add the rounds names rather than enter them in the email field. If you add them in this field it will get copied across!!

If you are in no hurry then give me this evening and Ill see how far I can get.

Thanks

Richard,

I have just asked someone to download and send me the new data and the export file has changed so will make the relevant changes as it looks like the status is there now.

When you said it had tabs, do you know why it created different tabs? As in what data was on each tab?
Thanks

Just tried to reproduce the file as before buts its now exporting properly..... Might have been an error within Excell......... It was the tab at the bottom of the page that says "GEOCUST"

Hi Andy,

The current way of creating worksheets is manual to allow the flexibility to add additional jobs or create mutiple worksheets for multiple days. I am going to add the ability to create worksheets based on criteria, for example all jobs due today, all jobs due this week, 8 hours work etc....

Hoep that answers your question
