Title: Internal Pole Carriers
Post by: jeff1 on August 30, 2008, 10:50:47 pm
I'm just waiting now for the delivery of the paint for the floor of My daughters Van, I've finished the tank frame and the hose reel swivel, so tomorrow because I'm at a loose end, I plan to make some pole carriers to fit inside of her Van.

Has anyone got any of these? if so how many down one side do you have? and how have you fitted them??

I use standard guttering fixed to the side works a treat....... In my previous van I used plastic down pipes fixed to 2 bars that went the width of the van. They are light, cheep, easy to fit and do the job very well.....

Mr H

down pipes to the roof would be good with the U clamps they come with to attach them to the walls

bolt them to the roof, hmmm, goes and looks at van

I have one from purefreedom holds three poles I think they sell them on ebay,  I have found it a nightmare if you have three poles on there if 2 are being used day in day out. they are a little to short IMO 6 or 8 inchs bigger would have been better.

if that link does not work type in pole holder they are £24.99 as I said before they need to be a few inches longer between the holder as they are just to small for day to day user with more than one person.

Ah! you will need a sheet bender for that, If I need any sheets bent I tend to go off to my mates to have it done, sheet benders are not that expensive and you can buy cheap mild steel scroll formers.

There is some money to be made in scroll work, I used to do loads of garden oriniments through the winter and during the summer visit the old car boot sales and sell it, They snap your hands of for Garden orniments for plants.
Penny Farthings instead of pedals you have 2 plant pot holders I couldn't make enough of them, the same for wheel barrows.
You'll find your asked to make alsorts of things, that's when you bump the price up.

'o' No your not an Evetonian are you?  ;D ;D

Don't advertise on Evertons boards, there to mean Lol

I never thought of doing pictures as I went along but your Dad has the correct idea.

Its getting a little close for comfort before I hand it all over to my daughter on the 8th September, my paint for the floor hasn't arrived yet, I'm hoping its here on Tuesday if it is, I'll get the floor painted and then once dry I'll install the Tank.
If I do have the time I'll try to do a Haynes manual type of thing for him, but he has the right idea.

haha thats quite right jeff :P we would be lost without our dads ;D

he lately sorted my ladder clamp problem out lol they used to just bend because i use commercial roof rack so insdead of the rack bending with the force they just bend the clamps which becomes anoying lol.

hehee good  ;D its fantastic over in liverpool with all this new building work going on and stuff.

I made a set of ladder clamps once, I used some box steel for the main section and round bar, I cut a thread on the bar and bent it into a J, I then welded a nut onto the box section and drilled a hole to feed the bar in, stuck a small bolt on each end to stop it coming off when I did it up, I ended up giving them away to another w/c  :'( still got a set of factory ones though  ;D

My Brother keeps me up-to date with the progress of the pool and I do pop back to see him now and again.
Title: Re: Internal Pole Carriers
Post by: dave0123 on August 31, 2008, 07:43:02 pm

Yer thats the main problem with them the J just bends so hes welded a sort of small nipple onto end of the J and then on the top were the cross bar is used to bend so when you spin them down they start rubing on the cross metal so hes strenthend the cross parts and the handles that spin are slightly bent upwards work a treat  ;D

I bet its changed loads over the years.

I damaged my roof bars over time by over tightning them,  I'm  just glad I don't use them anymore.

I also made (in wood) my own 6' pointer ladder I turned the rungs on my wood lathe and that's stuck in the shed now.

I get lost every time I return, saying that I haven't been back for 2 years.
