Try Contract Hire instead, no large deposit and no final payment.
Best deal I have come across recently was on a VW Transporter T32 102PS
£228 +VAT per month for 3 years.
3 months payment as deposit.

is this them Alex?

No but you also dont own all the problems associated with vehicles, Luke

Alex, am i missing something obvious, as the total only comes to £9700? So at the end of the term you just start again?

I had no large deposit.
3 months payments, then no payments for nearly 2 months.
Something fishy there Alex.
That only comes to 9600-odd, and a Transporter costs nearly double that.
My van is 276 per month and 5000 to pay in 4 years.
I'll change it after 3 years when I owe 7100.
Not a problem with a 3 year old van with 15-17,000 miles on. ;)
It'll be worth closer to 8000
Trade it in for another new one, and off we go.
(sorry I've got no pound signs, but I installed a new Windows and it's set to US keyboard, and I don't know how to change it!)

oh you do
if you contract lease a van your responsible for EVERYTHING every dent, mark and scratch EVERYTHING and you own nothing
the way squeaky does it he pays 3months first and if hes on a 4year thing will have 47 more payments, and for he vivaro will be between £300 and £400 per month inc vat and at the end he owns his vehicle if he wants it, or he can sell it to the company and the sell it back to him for a lower than market vaule price and a 95% reduction plus an admin fee, and then its his, if he chooses.
But he can then get the company to sell it for him plus vat and he gets all the money back that's its worth plus vat and never loses his vat
-
Glad you understand it Alex. ;D
I just give them money, they give me van... :-\
-
I paid £18'800 for my transporter and will probably be worth About £10'000 after 3 years.

EVERYTHING every dent, mark and scratch EVERYTHING and you own nothing
I was talking about engine problems, Luke
-
funny enough i've been talking about the transporter with a leasing company. I can get my hands on a T30 fully maintained (apart from general wear and tear, ie tyres and brakes) for £190+vat for a three year deal, i'm limited to 10,000 miles a year but we don't do shed loads of miles anyway...sounds like a craking deal that i will probably go for.
that will cost me £7410 +Vat over the term with no repair or servicing costs.
I'm just waiting for the guy to send all the info over through email and i will seriously look at one in January. you can't grumble at them figures. brand new van for that kinda money is an absolute steel

Thanks for those figures Dave. So you've had to pay £18,800 up front for a second hand van (I presume it's second hand at that price) and after 3 years it will have cost you approximately £8800.
I've been looking at the figures and as far as I can see Contract Hire would cost me £8664 for a brand new van which the payments on would be 100% tax deductible. By my reckoning over 3 years allowing for the tax effectiveness of Contract Hire, it will cost you less to have a brand new van and that isn't allowing for the £18,800 I would have to stump up front.

Interesting. ;)
