I have my ipod plugged in all day long. My customers know this and just tap me on the shoulder (always makes me jump) or they wave at me. Always have a joke about it but never an issue. I would not be without it. I tried a portable DAB radio but they are all crap. DAB only works form a static position.

just get a mobile with mp3 on em

i have a motoralla l7, it came with 64mb card which was pretty usesless so i got a 512mb card and i got rucks of songs, on me mobile, and when someone rings, it cuts the music, i press the button on the headphones talk to them, they hang up, and the music kicks back in again... ;D

Thats strange. I'd love to be able to listen to Radio 4 whilst at work, but of course with radios the reception comes and goes, just by turning round.

Witha n ipod do you lose reception at all when you move, rotate, or do something that work make a normal radio go doo lally?

You could try a personal digital radio :o

with a mobile the headphones act as an aerial so the reception is very good and as lwc says you can answer the phone whilst working and then the music kicks back in when they hang up

Used to use a radio on my phone, when the phone rang it would turn the radio off.  Now I just use an ipod strapped to my arm and ignore the customers.  :o

i do sometimes listen to music on my phone when im cleaning, but to be honest it can be a bit dodgy for me, i tend not to concentrate on what im doing which can be shall we say dangerous so after a few near misses, standing in buckets etc i don't really bother now ::)

I use one of those cheapo "it looks like an ipod but costs £2 and is a radio" things from Asda.

I am always wrecking them lol but its £2 so what the hell.  Reception on them is ok too.  I might move up to a cheapo clips on the belt job though as I think it would be slightly less of a pain moving about.

I would use a little radio, but you try finding one with MW.
Can't find an mp3 player with it.
Certainly not not crappy overpriced Ipods.

I want Talksport and nothing else. >:(

Why unprofessional...music keeps me entertained whilst performing a very mundane and very often boring task....obviously having it so loud that I would not hear someone talking to me at a normal distance would be a tad silly....but unprofessional....hardly.

Just another tool to get through the day.

I say this as I work with my wife 3 days a week so If I can listen to music instead of her then all the better.
Even when the batteries are dead I leave the head phones in.

What if my headset that is for my phone (handsfree) and it plays music and once a call is recieved switches to phone until conversation is over then reverts back to music...?

I clean my equipment, polish my boots each day....turn up when I say and do the very best job I can....but nowadays as long as something looks the part it seems to baffle the masses...Take your former prime minister for instance... ;D

Sorry to spoil it for you music lovers, but not only is it unprofessional to have music blaring either via headphone or other but also it's dangerous.

Style over substance....Exactly what difference do you think the wearing of earphones makes...

Many professions use earphones/headsets for communication both RX/TX and are able to do complex things at the same time...fly spaceships, planes, fight wars...lets also stop the listening of music in cars....get real.

Unprofessional please explain the difference between 'headphones & my phone hands free'....

Dave.

small radio from argos,FM/mw/lw-£19.99.Keep in front pocket of trousers, thread earphone cable under shirt & kept in place by pouch belt.Switch to mono & keep just one earpiece in.Listen to Radio 2 all day, volume just high enough to hear but not too loud to drown out people talking etc.Not at all dangerous or unproffessional & been doing it 20 years-stops me going more goofy than I am already. 8)

Anything that can help make window cleaning less boring has to be a good thing! and music is great for keeping me motivated and helps keep me going through the day. We are window cleaners at the end of the day and the customers don't give a sh*t if we are listening to music or not as long as their windows are cleaned!! ;)

Listening to certain types of music makes the brain more open for learning....

anyway, get your self a Creative Zen M:vision then you can listen to the radio, listen to music or watch window cleaning videos all day long! The battery lasts for 16  hours or so.

Hi

To Be honest all the wires for the music would just be another burden, and would probably just get tangled up in my hose like everything else.  ;D

and anyway... its rush on rush off... drive here , drive there...

aint got time for music.... now if pound notes could sing i would be listening to them all day...

So for me its ... rush but enjoy , but music would def slow me down, and i would certainly lose concentration.

Gary.

Respect to the custie?

Whats listening to the radio got to do with respect, we're talking about listening to the radio here not abusing them or shaggin 'em.

I have yet to see a apinter and decorator that doesnt listen to the radio, does that mean all painters and decorators are disrespectful individuals?

This thread is about simple entertainment whilst perfroming what ahs already been said is a mundane job a times.

Hi everybody , I live in Germany and listen all day to BFBS radio on my mobile, Nearly all my work is inside and out and my customers don´t have a problem with it - I only use one earpiece so I can hear what´s going on in the background , It makes a days´ work a hell of alot more enjoyable  :) :)

Window Cleaner- "Why?"

Customer- "you wear earphones whilst working"

We're window cleaners for god's sake not doctors or lawyers ::)

True story about music and doctors.
4 years ago my wife was in hospital ready to give birth to our eldest.  After being told she was ready and they `started` her off 3 days later the little chap had not arrived.  Suddenly she was rushed into theatre for a c-section.
I went in to watch the fun and the anaesthetist put on a CD player. Loudly.  Obviously noticing my look of confusion he said the doctor finds it helps him concentrate on the job in hand.

If a doctor can manage to work with music in his ears perhaps us window cleaners can cope.

All the wires.....

Was a joke... meaning i get tangled up anyway.... so why would i need another distraction....

Music is fine for those who want to listen to it, and can afford a steady pace, because thats what music will do...  steady the ship and slow it down......
for me its about getting the job done as quickly and professsionally as possible, whilst trying to drop some leaflets in surrounding houses

Not to mention not hearing the phone ring for potential new business.

Its personal choice and when my round is full and i no longer have to worry as much i might pop some music on....

In the van!! between calls.

I had a couple of very talented custies who also kept me entertained some years ago.

One was an excellent pianist that I used to go to school with and the other was an elderly gent who had a terrific voice and he didn't care who heard him. He used to sing in his garden in the summer and I could hear him for an hour or so whilst I was working in the area. The pianist I couldn't hear for so long, but for a couple of houses either side I could hear him loud and clear. He was real good too. Ended up teaching in a Uni somewhere I beleive.
