have spoken to the godlike figure Dave Ingram who after a lengthy discussion has offered to come down from the midlands to wood bridge and offer six [ 5 now] lucky owners of the panther truck mounts for upgrading that will help prevent certain problems from developing . this will include the following
1 adapt all plastic ball valves which could implode through high temperatures. this will prevent the truck from flooding.
2 adapt the dump valve to allow a choice of either dumping in to the waste tank, the fresh water tank or direct to the street. [ bearing in mind this is fresh water]
3 fixing a live feed to the front of the tank so that if you was unfortunate enough for your feed pump to go [ and it will in time] whist half way through a job it will allow you to put a hose direst to the tank and carry on working.
4 Fit a sight gauge on the front of the fresh water tank if you have a sub mount so you can see the water level
5 re - wire the pump switch to the ignition and solve spilling problems as you cant forget to switch off
6 fit some quick fit connectors to the pump and a few other minor adjustment and improvements.
if you are interested then please contact me either by email or ring me on 020 8661 2262 and book a place for sometime in November probably a Saturday
-
Are you infact saying that their are inherrant faults with the panther t/m ;)
is it something thst every owner should have done, looking at your post it would appear so!
but you seem to be calling it an upgrade :-\
Geoff
-
Hey Dave :D
You doin all this for FREE mate :o
I would just point out that Dave is in NO WAY connected with Woodbridge.
He gets no commission or payment for all of the help and advice that he gives to (all) truckmount users.
Hes just a good bloke, who is Shiiiiiiit hot on everything to do with truckmounts ! ;)
regards
Chris
ps Daves already done most of that to my machine :P
-
Count me in, I have most of those options done, but I would like a sight gauge fitted and to spend the day with a few others.
Red Carpet, you should get yourself down there, I promise you will learn loads and if there's any questions you need to ask they will be answered.
Phil.
-
Dave is the man. Made some good improvements to the Boxer when I last seen him about this time lastyear.
Shame the Woodbridge machines dont come with some of these basic requirements but then it is cheap.
Mark
-
Let us know when, and if i can be there i will even if its just to put names to some faces and have a chat with some of you guys
Pete, or Dave
Im not clear from the post what it is your actually planning
Is there a charge for these upgrades? or is this something your just doing? If there is a charge whats it gonna be? and who's gonna pay for it to be done if they are faults shouldnt Woodbridge be doing them all.
Ps, i actually got on a bit better with mine today and actually managed five jobs without it cutting out once
and she earned me a grand total of £430.70 ;D very pleased, best day yet i think
-
Just to let people know, these are not faults just optional extras.
I think there is a small charge, Dave will advise.
Red, why dont you include your name?
Phil
-
Pete
Are these inherrent problems in Woodbridge machines?
If the 1st five need them addressing then surely they all do !
I'm about to order my 1st truck mount and this looks like big problems.
Have I misunderstood?
Nigel
-
If i knew what it was gonna cost and if it would actually make a difference to me i would, iv not got a subtank so i can see my water level allready im gonna get woodbridge to sort out the dumping before then and to be honest i dont understand most of the rest ???
As i say if i know when it is i will probably pass through anyhow as Woodbridge is only ten minutes away for me, and im allways popping through there for chems and bits so if i know all you guys are there i will pop past to fill up with chems and say hello anyway.
While iv got the attention of a few panther owners,
What temps and pressures do you guys usually run at? and how far do you turn the engine up?
Iv had the engine just over half up today, temp about 105 and pressure at about 350psi, does that sound about right day to day?
-
Also, if this is nothing to do with Woodbridge, wont all this playing about void our warrenties?
-
these are little thing that will make life easier ( apart perhaps for the pump switch) they are not inherent problems with the machine.
its like central locking on a car or electric windows, a nice touch but not totally necessary.
I wouldn't be put off buying a panther because of these little things.
concidering he's doing the modification at Woodbridge I can't see a warrenty problem.
Mike
-
as mike pointed out none of these ' extras ' are problems that have been ignored the panther is a good buy spending a few pounds on making life easier in my opinion is common sense .woodbridge are not liable to have them done. it will not effect the warranty .
dave is a very good man and is travelling down from the midlands . he will have a charge of £50 per machine plus parts , which in my opinion is cheap . 6 machines maximum as he does not want to be there until sunday
I will take you at your word phil and put you on my list
so there is room for 4 more
red my advice is to put your name down it will ensure an easier time in the summer when its hot and the water will be dumping twice as fast. also dave will ensure your t/m is running at its best.

Nigel
Nigel, how can whether you have a sight gauge or not be a big problem, or a option to divert dumping water from waste to fresh water tank, or the option of using a live feed. The ball valve is simply filled with foam to prevent any water getting in, nothing to worry about.
Red (still dont know your name), why are you worried about a few quid if your earning £430.00 in a day?
You just can't help people sometime.
Phil
-
Phil, Its Daniel
And to answer your question as im sure you know, taking £430 and earning £430 is a different kettle of fish mate.
If i was earning £430 a day i wouldnt be sat on here tonight i would be in a nice restaurant somewere or going down the pub or cinema or something.
But as someone whos grown there buisness im sure you understand that to get anywere you have to stick most of it back in to start with unfortunatly, but hey im looking to the future.
I spent a load on marketing good and bad over the first year, and thankfully im over the worst of that and im now allways busy. My next step now is to make my working life as easy as possible by having the right tools. So have just brought the t/m and so needed a new van to fit it in, then the van needed ply linning then iv put shelves in it, then i needed a ramp and warning signs iv just brought a in-line sprayer and a table to clean upholstery on you know how it is the list goes on and on. And theres still loads more i need, i havent even got the new van signed up yet.
Hey if its worth it i will have it, but as i say i def dont need 2 of the upgrades and dont really understand the rest, what are the benifits to me? Peter, you say it will make life easier, How please?
Im still getting used to the machine and finding my way round it, so find it hard to understand the benifit of a ball valve this or dump that, to be honest i dont understand half of it ??? if you ask me in a couple of weeks i will prob understand and want it all ;D

I think that the water level sight gauge is now fitted standard on sub mount tanks, so reds already got it.
The plastic ball valves are prone to leaking, ( because of the high heat). Filling them with foam cures this problem. Woodbridge should really be paying for this. Its a problem that they know about, it will happen to your machine at some time.
A live feed should have been fitted standard on all machines. It wasnt on mine because the width of the van wouldnt allow for it, Dave found a way around it.
The other bits will just make life easier in the future.
More of a concern for me is the way that the engines got that " spinning disk" in the middle of it. I caught my arm on it today, took the skin right off ! >:(
It needs a guard of some sort fitting. What if someone gets their long hair caught in it?

I agree about the disk Chris, if someone caught their hair in there it would rip their head off!

iam really shocked ,u spend thousands of pounds on these rtuckmounts and u are talking about 6 odd upgrades from new !
when u buy something new isnt it meant to be fit for the purpose it was sold ? these woodbridge machines dont sound it ! perhaps thats y they are so cheap ,but then again if u buy a brand new cheap skoda it will do what the sales rep says stop start and go,but u wouldnt expect to go home get u tools out to make it do these functions proper would u ? and if it had all types of problems that needed upgrades it be called a recall wouldnt it woodbridge?
remind me y woodbridge stoped selling their own truckmounts xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx!! mmm thought so
gary
-
Just tried filling mine with water for the morning, and its flooded the van >:(
-
do they not hav a shutoff valve of somesort on fresh water tank?
-
I have to agree with Gary. What nonsense to buy a truck mount and then have to fiddle around with it. The truck mount I use didnt need any fiddling with and as it has a fuel burner and not a sub-standard heat exchange doesnt need any water to go anywhere apart from to cleaning the carpet or whatever is being cleaned. Who is it that said you pay cheep and get cheep? Best, Dave.
-
your right Dave, i rather pay more and have a decent one, its only 1 or 2 more grand.
i got over flow on my clean tank that will drop the water out under the van if i accidently over fill.
-
Its supposed to cut out when its full, and it was when i got it.
Only problem was once full if you left the tap on there would be a slight little drizzle down one side where the connector is but it wasnt the end of the world.
So i go back to woodbridge and they fit this thing on the top to let the air out when its full to stop the dripping.
But nobody thinks to tell me it lets the air and the water out ::) so im sitting eating my dinner while its filling, go back out and the vans flooded >:(
-
Hi guys.
the adjustments being mentioned are just extras you can have if you choose to have them.
the machines do work perfectly well without these extras and as for it being fit for the purpose, well they seem to be doing the job they were meant to do.
Alot of people are happy to talk about all the problems they get with the machines but where are all the people talking about the good side, price, performance and size.
yes there are problems, but there are with everything, i cant believe anyone has bought anything that has been perfect, machines have a way of going wrong even if used the correct way, cars for instance always go wrong yet people still buy them without moaning about them.
lastly i will say that woodbridge machines are good machines, at the end of the day if you want to pay more than you need to for a machine thats twice the size and doenst offer more peformance then thats crazy. as for the problems people are having, i understand its annoying but we do correct them free of charge if informed at the time.
it's no good coming in and being happy to our faces then coming on here moaning, you know who you are........
-
is he talking to u red ? lol
-
I love my t/m and think they are good value regardless . john has always got back to me if i had problems when i first got it.
-
I think anybody who decides to buy a product on just price is the crazy one.
-
hello Red
I have a pro 25 aswell i was the same as you
when i first got mine, it takes a little while to
get use to but once you do they make life ten
times easier, ive got over 900 hours on the clock
with out a problem.
I was working in the same building as a franchise company with a spitfire. Thank god i brought a woodbridge T/M and dont take any notice of people who dont own a T/M because you yourself know the difference and they havent got a clue of what theyre talking about.....
Last of all you know that you have an excellent back up service at Woodbridge if you ever need it.
Cheers Steve
-
lol i hav used truckmounts and i hav used a woodbridge and also my mate brought a woodbridge and it spent more time in thier yard than out on jobs for first two years , examples of probs were batterys melting ! water tank allways leaking, catching fire, electrics allways going wrong ,pump not working heater not working etc etc etc list was endless but hey firms and prouducts change and get better right ? ;)
imo and just mo for most carpet cleaners buying a truckmount is like buying a merc to just drive down a dirt track :)

Dan,
I wouldn't bother talking to most of these people, some of the comments on here defy belief, I suggest they go back and live in their own little World.
Small minded and blinkered views comes to mind, they dont even read the 1st post correctly, when buying a car they obviously buy the top spec. with every optional extra available and if they did buy a car without air conditioning/ABS/CD player or whatever its a fault.
Cleaning Co, you talk nonsense, you dont say how old or what machine this was, pumps do eventually go, as do battery's, heaters etc etc, you will be telling me your machine has NEVER failed ever, if its old and done 1000's of hours, like a car it will need repairs eventually, show me any mechanical machinary that dosen't?
Phil

lol we join this forum to talk about exp ,eqp, etc to help each other ,express our own opions and take in others veiws and exp ,i say it as i see it and would not tell fibbs i would never tell anyone on here something i hav used is brill or thier service was great when it was crap ,were here to help each other and debate our opions in our industry , if its black i say its black , and all for the good of my fellow carpet cleaners, god bless u all !! lol 8)
gary
p.s my fellow carpet cleaning freind dan this machines was like this with faults ongoing from new, and yes i agree with u things go wrong with any eqp but this was a bad one, and i can name a few others with bad machines over the country which i hav and others hav dealt with ,and hav named them in the past, thats why we come on here to help each avoid buying bad prouducts or services, and would only express opions on goods and services that i now 100% true ,and i listen to other people who praise these goods as each and everyone of us hav diff exp ,so lets just listen to each other
-
Ok, you go back to the Worlds No1 cleaning machine, "the Ninja". ;)
I will take your advise, if I ever see a Merc. broken down on the hard shoulder I will assume they are crap & never buy one!
Phil
-
bless u my son for u av ad a bad day i will take u down to the red lion watering hole and lager them demons out of u !! ;D
gary p.s ok il buy lol
-
does not sound like upgrades though, its not like adding electric windows,
there things you should'nt need to do.
"optional extras" that is funny ;D
-
your right Dave, i rather pay more and have a decent one, its only 1 or 2 more grand.
My woodbridge Pro Mount 20 was about £4000 cheaper than the equivalent hydramaster boxer ;D
I spent £50 with Dave and got all of the "extras" that I need to make life that bit easier, so i am still £3950 better off for having a Woodbridge ;)
In the first month I had a few niggles, but everything is OK now, very pleased with my purchase.
Bit it does help if you have at least a basic understanding of mechanical things, for example, if your skills do not even stretch to being able to change vac motors and pumps on an electric portable, then DONT buy a truckmount !
Cheers
Chris

that was meant to say 'Pro Mount truckmount' right?

No such thing as the perfect TM, what Dave Ingram does is gets all the good ideas from other manufacturers and puts them all together but he will readily admit that there is no such thing as a perfect TM.
No matter what machine you have got Dave is very free and easy with his time to help all.
I've had niggles with my Boxxer, infact all 3 TMs I've had, so please listen THERE IS NO PERFECT TM.

another thing about truckmounts.
companies who sell & make truckmounts, don't 'MAKE' truckmounts they 'ASSEMBLE' them.
they buy parts from suppliers and put them together. so if Woodbridge has an engine problem it is not their fault, it's the fault of Briggs & Stratton or Kohler, is Danials dump valve is knackered it is the fault of the company who made it not Woodbridges.
most of the downtime you get with T/M is caused by faulty parts and not the builder.
Mike
-
woodbridge dont assemble them either, just install them.
no one thinks theres a perfect truckmount, but you cant say somes not more releiable and better spec than others.
Chris, yes you saved 4k but now you getting the spanners out.
-
Mike, on a technical basis you are right. However if you decide to distribute a product you do so on the basis that you become responsible should that product become faulty. The manufacturer will replace faulty parts (usually) but the distributor is responsible for the pickup/collection/delivery of the item and then the swapping of the said part and re-delivery to the customer. This all eats into the margin you have made by selling the item originally, not to mention customer dissatisfaction.
In view of this, if you are a distributor you want to make sure you do not sell lemons as to do so would mean you would make little or no profit on the items you have sold.
-
4 years ago I purchased my first ever new vehicle, a Vauxhall Vivaro van. Within the first 400 miles I had a problem with it and it had to go in for repair.
Its been fine ever since.
like they say, Shiiit happens !
Craigp ?
Not sure what your are on about mate ?
Quote .........Chris, yes you saved 4k but now you getting the spanners out.
After a few niggles in the first month I have had no problems with my machine, so why do you say that I am getting the spanners out?
Do you even own a truckmount, or have the faintest idea how they work ? :(
£4000 is a lot to me, I got a good deal and made a big saving ;D
regards
Chris
-
On a slightly different note,,,,,,,,,,,, have you noticed how the secondhand value of ( most) truckmounts is so much lower these days, since Woodbridge started selling the Pro mount range?
Think about it.
Why pay £9000 for a 3 year old hydramaster Boxer / Prochem Legend, when £8500 will get you a brand new Pro mount 20 ( with 12 month warranty) ?
Even if you might have your doubts about the Pro Mount range, the choice of buying new, with a warranty, or buying used, with none, is really a NO BRAINER !

Chris

yes spot on phil, u dont need many brain cells to be a carpet cleaner !!!
-
Chris what im on about, mate, is you say you saved 4k, i yes i know you had no problems, but you getting spanners out to make upgrades to get it up a standard spec any decent TM.
-
Hi Craig
You must have missed my earlier posting mate,
Quote ......I spent £50 with Dave and got all of the "extras" that I need to make life that bit easier, so I am still £3950 better off for having a Woodbridge
For that £50 spent on what you call " upgrades" I now have a machine with the full spec that I want.
The boxer / legends do not come with the ability to dump water into the waste or fresh water tank, its an " extra" that you have to pay for.
I don’t think that they have a ball cock fitted into the fresh water tank to switch the water off when filling up the tank? That’s another "extra" for the boxer or legend?
Best thing for you mate would be to see a truckmount in use, you would then perhaps better understand how they work and then you would be better placed to pass judgement on what makes a good or bad truckmount?
At the moment you obviously haven’t got the foggiest idea what you are talking about ! ;)
regards
Chris
-
well, it is complicated stuff! dumping into fresh tank=cant see the point as your heating fresh water, you cant do that for long, so i wouldn't bother with that, besides i have a 70 gollon tank.
ball cock on fresh water tank? whats wrong with over flow? did yours not come with one?
ps. my point was the long list of mods that carpet clean posted that need to be made, not the couple you made Chris, i only refered back to you as you qouted me for saying i rather spend 2k more for one that i not got fiddle with.
-
I realy dont want to get into this tosh to me it's simple "you get what you pay for" but I do want to coment on the float switch in the water tank, I did have the choice with my boxer to have one infact to be correct I requsted not to have one, ive worked with truck mounts for ten years now so know a little what im talking about, the problem is this I use hoselock conectors to fit to indoor taps as often as i fit to outside taps "then i go direct fill" and when the tank is full it would build up pressure in the pipe and blow the fitting off the tap and flood the place so for this reason I was more than happy with an over flow, not having an overflow is just madness ???
-
I've had my prochem blazer xl about a month now and am very happy with it.I almost went with woodbridge but cancelled my order when they couldn't be bothered to contact me about the fitting of it.They kept £50 quid of my £1000 deposit for cancelling(or should that be stole?) but it sounds like the wisest £50 quid i've spent in 12 years !
-
CAN I PLEASE APOLOGISE for a misleading thread. I thought I was doing people a favour by saying dave ingram was available to make life easier for people with t/ms. as i understand it he is offering to add certain fittings that DO NOT come as standard OR EXTRAS but in fact will help the likes of me have an easier life. i will have a choice of a live feed. a choice of diverting the dumped water to the clean or dirty tank . quick connects will be fitted to make things easier in a few places. none of these come as standard i believe on most t/ms . . also one of the reasons the woodbridge t/m is cheap is because john chooses not to add certain extras that other companies would charge £4k plus for. and if its going to cost me £50 to have a few extras put on i am not going to complain about it.
if you think about it if you have a wand and buy a glide to make life easier would you call that wand rubbish without the glide !? the t/ms woodbridge sell are in my opinion very good value . I'm certainly not paying £4k more for a few fancy numptys that may or may not necessarily work.
-
Apologies if this seems a daft question.
Who are Woodbridge and do they have a website?
:-[
-
http://www.wcsuk.com/
they are a good company in that there probally the only price competitive carpet cleaning supplier,
eg. 3 stage vac motor from alltec = £120 woodbridge = £50
-
Thanks :)
-
A photo of one of the optional extras that Dave could fit for you.
-
I hope he's got a good drill bit, that stainless steel will take will take some drillin' on 6 tanks
Mike
-
definatly a good idea to have a sight tube on your tank. handy thing with the restomate plastic tanks is it is it's own sight glass as you can see the water in thier.
Good idea with the upgrades and maybe the manufacturers will incorperat them in the next batch?
-
I have a 15 hp panther which I imported in 2001 (back when the only other panther in the uk, a 20 hp one, was owned by the brother of the manufacturer.)
I would say that anyone buying one of these from woodbridge is getting a good value machine with the backup that wasnt available when I got mine. Even without a uk distrubuter at the time, I found mine to be staightforward to operate, reliable, easy to work on and get bits for.
If Dave can do a few cost effective upgrades to make them better thats great for everyone.
CHRIS R
I am a bit puzzled about the "spinning disc " on the front of yours, because mine doesnt have one.
The Kohler engine (yamaha) is right at the front and has no exposed moving parts
Cameron
-
Since speaking to woodbridge the other day i think most of the t/m's there selling now have at least a few of these features on them, and they done the water dumping divert thing for me on mine. Also if you have there saddle tank as opposed to the submount you can see the water level fine i think any new ones have a sight on the submounts as well.

i looked on mine for exposed spinning parts and cant find anything
-
some one said in an earlier post to buy a new truckmount over used was a no brainer, i tend to disagree, i bought this for £3,600 it had 2000hrs new engine and in tip top condition came with vac and sol reels vac and sol hose's, steel petrol tank with exterior filler. i'd recommend buying used just look around for well looked after examples.
PS. sight glass as standard.

Hi,
Its right slap bang in the middle of the engine. Its a large " dinner plate size" disk, with vents in it, and 4 screws holding it in place.
When the engine is running this disk spins ( very fast). If you catch yourself on it you will rip the skin from your hand / arm.
If you happen to be lucky enough to have long hair, and it gets caught in this spinning disk, it would pull your head into the engine and REALLY HURT your face ! :-[
In most cases its not a problem, but sometimes, in a rush and without thinking, you might reach across the engine to get something from down the side of the tank. :o
Your head is then only inches away from this disk , thats probably spinning at 2800rpm.
At the least it should be painted a different colour, so that it stands out. But really it wants a large cover, that doesnt spin, fitting over it.
If you are having trouble finding this disk, just run your hand over the front of the machine when its switched on, you will then easily find it ???
regards
Chris
PS I think that the 15hp model is a bit different from the rest of the range. Looking closely at the picture ( bottom pic is the 15hp) it does look like its got some sort of guard over the disk that I am talking about.
-
i think its the fly wheel in there. but could be wrong on that. if someone knows different can you please tell me what it is.
-
This is part of the engine cooling system. Primarily these engines are designed to operate lawn mowers. The black grill is a screen to prevent grass cuttings entering the cooling shrouds.
I have to say I am very surprised that this moving part has been left unguarded and CE certification has been obtained. This is a potential hazard and should not be exposed. I have only dealt with the 12 and 15hp on the Prowler and they do not have this. When we had the Prowler certified we had to make alterations so that non of the moving parts were readily accessible.
-
It spins and you put your head near it! the fumes are definatly getting to you.
What if a kid/hoddie gets in the van you'll be front page of the local paper "LOCAL CLEANER MANGELS LOCAL KID" SHOCKER!!!!!!!!!! picture of the beast on page 2.
( mind must admit it would be a good anti theft device slice their hands off like a bacon slicer)
Go and buy a large combi boiler exhaust cover and retro fit it asap, you should be able to pop rivet it on using washers without to much trouble.
Happy and safe cleaning.
-
No one seem to appericat that Woodbridge are being very good allowing alterations to the TM and keeping the warrenty intact, where the machine need the mods or not.
Fair play to them
-
my t/m has a guard fitted over the spinning wheel !!!.
i went back to woodbridge today and had a quick fit valve fitted to the waste tank so i have the choice of dumping to the waste or clean tank. free of charge!!
i noticed another t/m being fitted and a lot of things listed on the begining of the thread are now standard.
like john said to me if anyone has a complaint they can always ring him direct and he will sort the problem out .
-
lets be fair to woodbridge in the pics and on the panther i saw there IS a cover over this flywheel thing. as there is on all thses types of engines
-
I've just aquired the promount 18 and it does have the spinning disc which i've nearly caught my arm on a couple of times so i think i may get a guard to be on the safe side, :o
seems like the other models already have one ???

Honestly it has a spinning disc you can catch yourself on be bloody carefull as it canot be CE certified if thats the case, and your liabilty insurance would be worth zip.
Get a guard and get it tested quick
it roates with the engine and not even a warning label.........

i wanted to popst a picture but i will explain the 27 has a guard that fits over the spinning wheel. it looks exactly the same as the smaller models but as i say has a guard fitted over the whole thing with only 4 screws holding it on so easily fit if you look at the main web site in america of chem tex and compare the models you may see what i mean
