I've been looking at the auto-regen softeners on the GapsWater site and am quite interested in installing one of these instead of a standard vessel. Does anyone have any experience of them? Are they worth the extra £££ or is it just as easy to flus hsome salt through every couple of days?

All OK, but you need one big enough to softene a days worth of water. The smallest one at £300 will only do abot 1700 litres of water per regen so thats only good enough for about 400-500 litres opf pure water (asuming hardness of between 300-350ppm).

mmm....I didn't think of that. I read that it could do 400l per hour asnd figured it would be ok. What one would I need to do 1000L per day?

Bonzer,
One big enough to do the volume required for 1000 litres of pure will cost you £470 inc vat & mainland delivery. If you want the details drop us a line.

Steve, could you show me how you derive those figures - litres per regen etc.
Also, I've been looking at getting a 4040 RO which should be more like 1:1 waste/good water so that would give me 850L of pure per regen wouldn't it?

Bonzer,
A 4040 will give you loads of water if you have the pressure. If you do have good pressure then you might get 1:1 ratio, but if you restrict the drain too far your output TDS will rise, so you need to get the 4040 and give it a try on your water pressure, find out what works best for you, then add up the waste & the pure, work out a days use, then you will have a figure for the soft water you need.
My numbers were based on 1:3 ratio, so 500 litres of pure = 1500 litres of input.
