Are we all going to applaud the NHS at 8:00 tonight to show our appreciation of the work they’re doing to save our lives?
-
Yes, we had a really good turnout last week, it was quite moving
-
yup. brought a lump to my throat last week
-
Yeah, me and my lad did it last week and we'll continue doing it.
My Dad, who is in 80's, did it too.
-
A real nice touch. I like the fact they have now included other key workers like retailers.
-
Was amazing in my street too, yes we will be out front
-
No, not my scene but i like the thought
-
Don’t really see the point ??? I have utmost respect for those that care for others but why applause? I think it’s probably a townie thing?
-
Yes
-
Tomorrow they are doing the same for all the Fedex and Amazon drivers out there doing a sterling job.
Some time between 9am and 5pm.
-
^^^ ;D
-

It's a community thing. I know it's remote where you live but do it. Thatcher will turn in her grave.
-

It's a way of showing your neighbours that you care.
No-one's done it in my street yet.

It's only happened once.

Not in my street.
We followed government advice and stayed at home.
Not like Jeremy Corbyn, walking around the street, and people in terraced houses, standing next to their neighbours, clapping the Chinese plague all over each other.

He should've stayed at home and not broken government advice. :'(

Probably all went to the beach for a bbq.

No, we stayed at home in case your snipers shot us. ;D
-
Seriously though, what part of 'stay at home' did JC not understand?

They were Og's snipers.
Or were they Perfect Clean's?

He might have been buying food or medicine.
-
Corbyn is over 70 years old too. He should be self isolating in accordance with government advice.
By not doing so he is risking himself and putting more pressure on the NHS.
Stop clapping, Jeremy, get out of the streets, and stay at home.
-
He might have been buying food or medicine.
You don't understand the government guidelines, do you?

Educate yourself.
It's important right now, what with the Chinese plague 'n' all that.
-
He's an MP.
There'll be NHS staff over 70, too.

Ah. There’s a guy ploughing a field a few hundred yards away. I’ll see if he notices.
-

NHS staff need to be at work.
Jeremy is dancing in the street, clapping the Chinese plague all over the gaff; not staying at home, putting himself and the NHS at risk.
-
Only about 10 houses in my village. All out, well played neighbours. Well played.
-
Anyone would think I've never done the shopping before.
The neighbours gave me a cracking round of applause when I unloaded it out of the boot.
Cheeky barstewards. >:(
-
Last week the whole street was out now only 20%
Or so people are getting bored and stressed
-

Come on, be reet, Souples.
Don't be booing virtue signalling (http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/1585858083_angry[1].gif).

Bah! Humbug! ;D
-
Loud and proud round my way. Just as loud as last week too.
-
Me and Maria went out of our front door to applause the NHS and all we could hear was many others doing the same also car horns and even some fireworks. Well done NHS our heroes

Spoilt rotten: The Toxic Cult of Sentimentality by Theodore Dalrymple
"The fine traditions of this country are being eroded by the sentimental cultural hegemony that insists any feeling is by definition both true and something to be nurtured.
We now live in a world where the public demand vulgar displays of emotion and it is fair game to coerce anyone who fails to conform."
People's Princess, Je suis Charlie, Don't look back in anger. et al. Far more useful to have everyone text a few pounds for the NHS.
-
I didn't see any vulgarity or coercion.
And I think it's the sort of spirit, maybe not tradition, that we might have seen during the war. It's more of a show of unity than sentimental outpouring.

If you think that it's vulgar and coercive then you need to get out more...…...oh, hang on.

If someone thinks they are "doing their bit" by standing on their doorstep clapping or rattling a saucepan, then so be it. (http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/1585903901_rolleyes.gif)
I personally think it's all a bit silly, and when my Mrs was at home off shift last week she wouldn't even go outside at 8pm because she found it embarrassing.
Perhaps it's because she is the type who doesn't seek to be revered or put on a pedestal, which is probably not a bad thing considering she's married to me. (http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/1585904167_grin.gif)

My Missus is the same but my little lad loves owt like that.

I thought that would be the general feeling of front-line NHS too.
We're British and this doesn't feel British.
It reminds me of that stupid 'Red Friday' malarky where people would wear red on Friday to show support for the armed forces when they were getting smashed in dusty places. It was popular in the USA, but despite efforts, it never caught on in the UK.
We're not very good at cringe. That's why we don't say "Thank you for your service" to our military like the Septics seem to be so fond of doing.
The British way would be to donate a little money to the Cavell Nurses Trust, or buy a nurse a pint and offer them a few words of encouragement. And give them a gong, after the event.
Not make a song and dance about it.
-
He's just doing a message for the bin men, now.
I did say offer to buy them a pint instead but he rightly pointed out that the pubs were closed.
He must have a good home teacher.
-
He must have a good home teacher.
He should thank you for your cervix.

That's below the belt (http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/1585906934_angry[1].gif).

And let's not forget the service of our lads in green too...

Well i was out clapping last night, complete waste of time. I forgot to take my phone out and film myself doing it.

Humour has a knack of getting to the truth.
-
I like this comment on Jeremy's twitter feed from one "Spring heeled jack"
""I’m a NHS worker on the frontline who is currently on night-duty & was trying to get some sleep at home before my next shift when the clapping started..."
;D

Clap for carers outside a Bristol hospital:
https://www.facebook.com/bristol247/videos/549425349091342/
They're stood shoulder-to-shoulder clapping the Chinese plague all over themselves.
Just mental. ;D ;D ;D
Standby for a tougher lock down.
-
It's corny and cheesy and cringe worthy.
-
A nurse was walking down my street when it hit 8pm , nearly every household came out and was clapping . She looked so proud, everyone couldn’t stop smiling. Was a great moment :)

Oh dear.
We found some paper horns leftover from New Year and used them. I might play Agadoo at the front door next week.
Stay safe.
-
Clapping for the unemployed tonight 👍
-
It's corny and cheesy and cringe worthy.
And emotional to some people, who then berate it.

Good stuff. It's good for community spirit.
We were waving at one of our neighbours we've not seen for a few weeks. We know they are ok now.
