Title: Camera for top of pole
Post by: S.W. Window Cleaning on August 11, 2016, 08:05:30 pm
Just wondered has anybody fitted a camera to top of pole?  Something like on a gutter vac. Thought it would be good for checking windows after cleaning especially on 3 stories

No not for perving the ladder brigade are welcome to that.  Just thought it might have shown if any bird crap etc hadn't cleaned off.

If you tried it would be only right & proper to inform people beforehand that the work could be checked by using a camera on a wfp pole. That way you should be covered just in case you frighten the living daylights out of the occupiers including kids, see something you shouldn't and maybe get reported to the old bill.

At the  end of the day you really need the occupiers permision as some people are funny like that

No not going to try it. Was only a suggestion. Just wondered if anybody had tried it but can understand the issues of getting permission etc

I rely on my customers eyes.  ;D ;D
If there's an issue with my work that bothers them, I make them feel comfortable with telling me and I go back if need be to rectify it. I seldom get call backs, though I did this last week and it was entirely my fault. But sorted it and still have a happy customer.

It certainly does.  ;D ;D
No, seriously though, if it bothers my customers it bothers me. If the standard I work to is not up to what they expect, then I strive to go that bit further if I reasonably can.

what window cleaner has time for that?

just clean all windows as well as you can whether its ground floor or 3 storey.if you get a complaint,go back and re clean(it very rarely happens in reality).

Yes nets are defo our friend too  ;D
What puzzles me sometimes that some occupants never seem to clean the insides or ask so why do they bother to get the outside cleaned?

I have been thinking about buying a camera to fit on poles, not just for checking my own work but to offer an inspection service for high level work
On big jobs especially, this could also be mounted on a helmet, as a few of my jobs insist on full ppe, and the customer can see wot u do.

Using a gopro camera I find very handy Matt for video recording surveys etc especially when dealing with clients via email as I generally attach still images from the video footage too.

Attaching images are ideal if you are also dealing with the likes of second home owners, landlords etc that are based out of the area.

A helmet-cam? The mind boggles.

The gopro I still use is a Gopro Hero+ silver with an add-on lcd touch screen which they don't make that model anymore. Brilliant bit of kit that cost new at the time £350 + extra batteries, 240v fast charge, memory cards etc I bought seprately.  At the time I was not too worried about the cost as landed a very profitable gutter clearing job that paid for itself and more some on the very first visit. I must say that camera has to be one of the best investments I have ever made and after so much abuse is still going strong to this day.

I've not tried any other cheap gopro type cameras yet so can't comment on how good/bad they are but you can get wifi enabled sj4000 type cameras from the likes of ebay. Take yer pick as there are loads  http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1311.R2.TR10.TRC0.A0.H0.Xsj400.TRS0&_nkw=sj4000+wifi&_sacat=0

Hello,

I haven't used the GoPro myself so can't comment on that but we have been using the cheap SJ4000 type cameras from Ebay for a few months now and have been really impressed with it. We've been looking at these for a while now because we are looking to start offering these with our kits as an alternative to the other camera we do as they are so much cheaper and nearly everybody has a smart phone these days.

Wagga likes his helmet/head-cam so do many others too as keeps yer hands free when you want to record a video.

Gopro & smart phone combination are a darn site better than a wifi baby monitor dvrd that's for sure.

After saying the downside I've found with gopro cameras they can eat battery life very quickly when on wifi especially on larger jobs clearing gutters in real time viewing so I always carry spare batteries, 240 volt fast charger etc and a spare smart phone and charger just in case the smart phone dies too.

I used to be a boy scout you know but if the camera packs in I'm fooked  ;D

Smurf, I'm not sure why you think the cameras are baby monitors? They can't be used for that as they have to be in line of sight and won't go through walls. Camera technology has moved rapidly in the last year or so with these new wifi cameras at under £50, that's why we are going to start offering these as well as the camera monitor kits for those who don't want to use their phone (housing associations etc) as well as a new 3500 watt machine will be available this week (it's built by the same firm that build sky vac machines).

The one you have on your site is bud http://www.guttercleaningsystems.co.uk/camera.html were developed and sold as baby monitors for parents that wanted a camera in the infants room and here is the proof.

Then some smart arses including myself came acrross them aprox 8 years ago started to see if they would be anygood instead of using pain in the arse guttervac wired systems. Since then the monitors (dvrd) units & wifi cameras have come out in all gizes and still being sold as gutter cams at over inflatted prices. The ones Skyvac sell are  probably the dearest.

In all honesty you'd be quite surprised at how much they cost us from China hence the prices asked!! It's great that there is now a far cheaper alternative!!

It's great progress!! For years I've been trying to get the price of cameras down because we know a lot of guys want them or are put off buying kits because of the price of cameras!!

Smurf,

Everything from Skyvac is expensive!! I just got a shock, I was looking at the stats of their machine and was quite surprised at the performance of that machine!! They state 133 Lps (3300 watts) whereas most 3000 what machines are at least 120 Lps. In gutter cleaning the most important number is Lps not water lift.

Thermal imagine cameras are ok if you really know how to use them.

As just a cleaner I can't see the real need in having one not unless you want to include tic survey in the rams before every solar panel clean to help idenify any potential shock risk to yourself or staff before you start cleaning them.

Just stick yer tonge on it as would be far cheaper methinks  ;D ;D

You are right , their equipment is expensive, but it's good quality gear..... BUT .... Now I know about your site , I would be tempted to buy one of yours if mine broke

I should point out that any problems with carbon fibre poles we can keep them going for years.
We do actually make them and can repair them.
