Nice job, man!
-
That defo looks like a ball breaker even for two...I would have to take a week off to recover after doing a job like that.
-
Nice quarterly job Mick, how much water do you use between two of you.
Lal
-
I'd be content with that price if it wasn't too far to travel. Nice job.
-
Is there a method for pricing commercial jobs like that? or do you just try and visualize how long it will take?
Thanks.
-
I would just visualise how much pain I'm going to be in afterwards and double the price what I have in my head hoping I would not get it. That's defo a fit young lads type of job and not for old guys like me ;D
-
I'd add an extra £50 on the job to get the guy some decent clothes to wear for commercial jobs like that. Indeed any job.
-

I'm guessing rinsing would be on the glass so effort wouldn't be too extreme. Once the brush is on, it's just a question of manoeuvring it surely?

I take it you don't like his bobble hat then ;D

Just looks a bit amateurish, but thats just my opinion.
Good job though, wonder how much water it uses? And jobs like that are great for cash flow. A lot of the bigger jobs we do are really good payers, helps no end. And with 'GoCardless or else' threats for the smaller ones who take ages to pay has improved things no end.
Glad I don't have to work weekends though. Might go canvassing in a bit actually ;D

At that height yes you would rinse on the glass and maybe use a top rinse bar too.
Would be better to use an on demand ro/di set up on site so can use a good flow too without worring your going to run out of water

I think Mick uses subbies though.

Then surely they should get a free t-shirt and a sticker for their backside to say are certified to clean glass? After paying £299 +VAT for the course and a slice of lemon drizzle cake?
-
cheesecake - keep up.
-
Used just under 1000 litres of water.
Yes im feeling it now! A long slog of a day but i enjoy these big jobs.
I always price on how long it will take. I work out how long each side will take then add them all together and add on for travel etc.
Paid subby £140 and lunch for the day.
It wasnt that far from you 8weekly i dont think. Job is near Slough off the M4.

Ah, yes - not too far.

Nice job mind numbing though iPod needed, that bloke with the pole where did he leave his beer can lol.
-
Would it be worth considering using a pressure washer to clean such large areas of glass?
-
Safety cones ?
Hi-viz ?
:)

What? In an empty car park?

Yeah ?
-
Just the 2 sides and stairwell? Or does the glas go round all 4 sides of the building?
-
Safety cones ?
Hi-viz ?
:)
What? In an empty car park?
Yeah ?
It would seem unnecessary to me. I imagine the building is closed and that's the reason it's being done on Saturday. There being no one there.

Fair point. But it would make the picture look more pro :)

Most of the comments are in reflection of the image portrayed by the worker in being unprofessional looking for a legitimate business. So what would the general public witnessing this work think??!
Yes its about delivering an excellent service in cleaning to our clients but it should also be about company image for gaining additional work and business growth. So a more professional attire and maybe a high viz would reflect that.

Don't forget the hard hats too...It's all bull I know but makes for a good pic instead of a chap wearing a bobble hat ;D
Out of choice I prefer the bright yellow ones to white as stands out more. Mind you as Mick is the boss so a white one would be more appropriate.
-
Talking of clothing I'm starting to think there's a few of you on here with your bitchy comments that wear dresses. :o

Hard hats? what a plonker , what are you going to get injured by on your head when window cleaning, you seem to be obsessed with your hard hat but it makes you look like you don't understand the health and safety rules

Shrek what do you think of this pic then. Would you say the chap looks a plonker or someone that looks professional and the firm that he work for takes ppe seriously?
-
I'd say his pole isn't long enough as it needs to be extended. He's going to damage his neck working like that.
That hat is about to topple off the back of his head. Then it'll be a trip hazard ;)

I noticed that too ;D

I wasnt trying to post a pro photo.
Just a photo showing a never ending looking day full of glass! It was cold so he had his wooly hat on! I dont see the issue if im honest but hey ho.
No need for cones or anything as was a Saturday with noone there and just us working behind security gates, if a weekday or a busy area all would be coned off and hi vis worn.
Here have another unpro photo of me farting in the van torturing the boys with the heating up ;D

I don't blame the chap for wearing his bobble hat Mike as must have been darn cold working around that building yesterday.
You have my sense of humour Mick as that’s the sort of thing I would do ;D

I would say it's totally inappropriate, as much use as a life guard wearing steel toe cap boots. Just because ppe is available to buy, it doesn't mean you have to use it on every job . What's going to fall on his or your head when water fed poling? A plane?

A snapped pole maybe or another guy decides to loose control and drop his pole on your head ;D
-
Your just being unrealistic
-
I wear a hard hat out of choice but that don't make me a plonker as it not only protects my head it keeps it warm and dry too. :-*
I've had a few close calls with broken tiles etc and ever a gopro falling off a pole whilst working from the ground. Not only that have banged my head on a number of things around a property like hanging baskets & just the brackets, branches of trees etc.
You could say I'm a bit of a head banger ;D
-
I wasn't on about gutter clearing and you weren't , anyways each to their own 🆗🆒

Hilarious - the OP is getting over £700 for a days work cleaning windows, paying a subbie a reasonable sum, working with no traffic in an empty car park and some on this thread make a fuss about hard hats and hi viz.
Then a picture is put up of a guy in a hi viz and hard hat working too close to a building for the good of his neck - and yes the weight of the hard hat does make a difference if your head is at an awkward angle.
I say well done to Mick Kent, well done to his worker for dressing warmly and comfortably and no man hates the smell of his own farts. ;D
-
Aye, its a good job we're all grown men and can take different opinions of people on the chin without throwing the dummy out

Hard hats and Hi-Vis.
I watched some tv news thing recently about something where the fire service were needed and when the news lady interviewed the fire officer in charge and even though the incident was well over, he was still wearing his hi vis stuff and a hard hat even though they were well away from any non existent danger and in a safe place.
It's become a status symbol. As in 'look at me', I'm important because I'm wearing PPE even though there is absolutely no need to.

I haven't read the whole thread but is it wise to state prices?
I lost a job last year down to in house cleaning.......Or so i thought!
I have just found out i happened to mention the price to a so called friend and hes gone and undercut me.
It was a commercial job for £195 and took 2 hours. I did say be nice to get an extra £5, £100 an hour loving it mate hahahahah
My Partners friend works there and it came up in convo at weekend. He roughly knew when it was due.
I don't know who's the bigger idiot.
Me for telling him a price or him for working at a cheaper rate.
it was hard on the neck for 2 hours tbh! Horrible access.
But that's me done now with talking/helping people who i meet now.
Will just go down the route of all the other cleaners round here now. Tell em nothing ;D

Absolutely!! Good rule to live by. I have ones who contact me on business page and want to kno generally how much I charge per house. I tell them its house dependant and need an address I can then give a price. Never hear bk from them. I take it that they are competitors. They even interupt me working to ask price. Thing is, probably like you guys, iv been in my areas over 14yrs and have 14 yrs exp in this game. You get to kno faces and you kno which ones are cowboy cleaners wanting to move on your patch and which ones are genuine customers enquiring.
Never boast about the charge and give nothing away. Its a business after all and your protecting your investment

So you think he should have taken his hard hat off just because he was being interviewed.
For all you know he may have been having a bad hair day ;D

I would never go out of my way to take another cleaners work off them by dilibrately trying to undercut them if asked to give a quote. I also would expect no decent cleaner worth his salt would do that to me either. I'm not that green to know it happens quite a bit but all sounds very desperate to me as selling on price alone will just end up driving prices down further and the guy's that do it will shoot themselves in the foot bigtime.
