Never tell anyone you are going on holiday, where or when.

Our customer's house was broken into when he was away in Spain over an extended weekend. They cleaned the place out and nobody heard them.

Apparently one of his mates broadcast his being away on Facebook.

Exactly, if they complain then tell them you where on holiday but most wont even notice or care.

Do your customers inform you they are going to be on holiday ?
I just change the answerphone message stating I am away and the date I will be resuming work ( usually make the date a few days after my return to give some breathing space to catch up if needed and prioritise overdue work )

+1.
Even if you're 2 weeks late, most won't phone.
They probably won't even notice you're 2 weeks late.
In my experience, customers only really care if you're early.

Nah. Punctuality is more for the shiner than the customer in my experience.
Except the odd lil' old dear who marks the calendar when we've been.
